By default, LaTeX does not provide for this option, as it is unmathematical (the typeface is required to distinguish between variables and function names or constants). Therefore, it is not implemented by the TeX author. However, some math-font packages provide for this option. Which one of them is the right choice for you depends on the text fonts you want in your document. http://milde.users.sourceforge.net/LUCR/Math/math-font-selection.xhtml#math-styles Alternatively, you might try to create a roman math version or change the meaning of mathdefault. But this is advanced math-font configuration stuff that needs reading and understanding LaTeX 2ε font selection (fntguide.pdf) and more than just one preamble command. Günter

preamble set math font to roman
Dear Lyx Users and Experts, I know this is should be a really simple question but I searched for over one hour and could not find an answer. Equations which I set in math-mode are italic. I want them to be in roman (not italic). I could add to each equation a \mathrm a^2+b^2 but this is a lot of work. What do I have to do to change this globally in the preamble? Thanks, Henry
