I can't reproduce that issue. Do you think you could make a screencast and post it so we could see how it slows down? After the issue occurs, if you take your finger off and wait a second, and then start typing is it back to normal (until you trigger the issue)? Or once it happens it is slow typing from there on out? Hi Scott, Here’s a video showing how it slows down https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/jtfm92l11orb9254xsz5z/Screen-Recording-2023-11-14-at-7.50.08-AM.mov?rlkey=fzk7aaycqabgul55ipun4ste5=0 I don’t experience this issue on any other application, including Word or Overleaf. Thanks again Tim On 14 Nov 2023, at 7:22, Scott Kostyshak wrote: > On Mon, Nov 13, 2023 at 11:52:23AM -0700, Tim Garrett wrote: >> Scott, the same is also true of typing speed. Another follow-up question. If you save the document and reopen it, then are things faster (at the beginning before the problem is triggered again)? I'm trying to figure out whether the problem is due to the number of characters you've typed versus the number of characters present in the document. Also, can you copy/paste the information in LyX > About ? Hi Scott, Saving and reopening doesn’t change anything in behavior. I’m using MacOS 12.4 I’m somewhat wondering if it’s possible to simply revert to an older form of LyX. My needs and expectations are not that high. Thought kLyX 0.12 was a life-changing miracle back in 2000. I am not sure whether the issue is the form of LyX or some program on your machine that interferes with LyX. Did you try running with activity monitor to see whether another process eats CPU cycles at the time where LyX is sluggish? Otherwise, to diagnose this you would need to 1/ get a binary with debug information from stephan (I do not know how easy it is for him) 2/ install xcode (I do not know how easy it is for you) 3/ run LyX together with the profiler "Instruments" 4/ send the output back to the list. Another solution is to export your file(s) to an ancient LyX format and use this ancient version that is presumably faster, if this is your wish.
