Centering in uncover environment in Beamer

2017-01-07 Thread Shieh, Sanford
Attached MWE0.lyx shows an attempt to have a frame with 3 slides, each a plain
text line, using the uncover environment on lines 2 and 3, but with line 2
centered. I couldn't get LyX to do this without ERT, as in MWE1.lyx; it always
forces the default alignment. Is there a way without ERT?

Best,

Just insert a box (Insert > Box > Frameless) in the Uncover environment, put
the text in it, and use the paragraph settings inside the box to center it.
I've attached the result.

RE: Key binding of unicode-insert problem

2017-08-17 Thread Shieh, Sanford
On Win7 it seems not to be only the colon. I have three other bind file
weirdnesses

\bind "C-S-%" "unicode-insert 00A7" # section sign

\bind "C-'" "unicode-insert 0027" # dumb right single quote
\bind "'" "quote-insert single" # smart single quote

The latter two I did because I wanted to have the ' key act as a smart single
quote. The results are however:

[cid:image002.jpg@01D3177B.AD6CEED0]

So I still have to use the dialog box to do these bindings.

The smart single quote is really weird, and I don't understand quite what I did
in the dialog box to get the right result, but here's what it looks like:

As this screenshot shows, there's no problem when I use the dialog box to bind

Is this an issue with Win7, which I'm using?

I also see something weird in the dialog, but it's a different weird from
yours. This is on Linux. My guess is that there is some kind of font problem.

Can you file a bug about this at lyx.org/trac/?

I also get something different but weird (and consistent with respect to
changes I made to various elements), also on Linux.

The issue seems to be the colon. If you spell out the word in the bind file
(i.e., "M-S-colon u"), it works fine. That's what ends up in the bind file when
you enter it through the dialog. Putting a literal ":" in the bind file seems
to create havoc.

Again, punctuation marks need to be spelled out in the bind file. Try
"C-S-percent", "C-apostrophe" and "apostrophe" respectively.

Mind you, I have no idea why LyX chokes on punctuation marks in the key
combination specifications of the bind file, but that seems to be what is
happening.

Sorry if this problem has already been solved, I couldn't find a solution in
the LyX list.

2.3 beta 1 deactivate child doc branch in master problem

2017-09-19 Thread Shieh, Sanford
In 2.2.x one could have a branch in a child doc that is activated only when the
child doc is compiled, and not when the master is. How is this done in 2.3?
Right-clicking on the child branch inset yields a "Deactivate branch in Master"
option, but after clicking it and saving the child doc the branch is still
active when the master doc is compiled. Attached is an MWE, a master mwe.lyx,
two children mwe1.lyx and mwe2.lyx, together with mwe.bib. Unless I deactivate
the child branches altogether, I end up with 3 sets of bibliographies and
indices when viewing the master.

Keyboard shortcut for inserting custom item while using Beamer

2018-10-06 Thread Shieh, Sanford
Hi,

I find myself inserting blank custom items a lot while using Beamer, and so
would like to have a keyboard shortcut for that. As far as I can tell, there's
no LyX function that does that, so I can't bind a key sequence to it. Is there
some other method that might work?

Thanks!

Hi Riki,

Attached is an MWE together with the PDF it generates. Bullet points 2-4 are
not visible on the PDF slides because of the Custom Item insert with nothing
inside the insert box.

Thanks!

I'm not sure I know what you mean by a 'blank custom item'. Can you post a
small LyX file that has one in it?
