I’ll share mine: Rare Samsung N501 DVD player, one of three machines released
in the states that are “Nuon” game systems. (Watch your local thrift stores!)

Bought, lost in the mail, tracking number never resolved, got money back
through eBay but the hardware is simply lost in space. :(

Mailing a CRT though? Yikes.

The typewriter guys also have some gnarly shipping stories: throw a 50lb
Selectric in a cardboard box and hand it to USPS, see what happens.

Which reminds me, there’s probably a niche market for plywood cut to be
shipping bases for old Selectrics; nobody has packing material but that’s how
the factory did it.

What ever happened to those wood shipping crates filled with asbestos shavings
like where those “top men” keep the arc of the covenant?

Ironically the LCD screen appears to be in near perfect condition it was

Sounds familiar I bought an M600 off eBay a few months ago. The outer box

will have to joy you Jeff. I had purchased a VM-2 to complete my DVI
setup (M100 + DVI (2x3.5inFDD) and it was DOA. VM-2 in a cardboard box and the
packing material, a bit of tiny bubble wrap with most bubbles popped, did not
even wrap around the monitor one time, just kind of thrown in with it. Cracks
all over in near every corner, tube neck was snapped. Sent pictures to the eBay
Seller with my complaint. "You can keep it," he said, "It's insured." Got my
money back on it fine, but had to wait a couple of years for another VM-2 to
hit eBay. Just got it last month. Guess I'll have to strip the first VM-2 for
spares.

God Bless,

Subject: [M100] Got a DVI and rant about shipping

Hello all,

I picked up a DVI, portable floppy drive (3.5"?), and a couple of Model 100s
from a guy on Facebook. One of the 100's is supposed to work and came in a
hard-shell case (complete with crumbling foam lining) and the other is in a
leatherette sleeve. There was also a small stack of software and manuals. I
suspect there was more in the box but alas one corner had some open due to a
poor job in packaging.

What the h-e-double-hockey-sticks goes through people's minds when
they are packaging stuff up? You take some big, heavy stuff and throw it in
a carboard box with some peanuts and think it will magically be OK? Have
these folks never unboxed something and observed what makes for good
packaging and what does not? Have they ever heard or seen double boxing? How
about at least putting small items in plastic bags so they do travel around
the inside of the box and get broken? Sigh, worst of all neat old computer
stuff gets broken.

Jeff

[M100] NEC Rex

My understanding is that Steve had broken his leg, and we all should
wish him well.

Also, I want an NEC Rex, but he needs enough love to do another run. So
... I'd like to know how many of us would sponsor an NEC 8201/8300 Rex run.

Think of this as a mini kick-starter.

We need two things ...
1) What would Steve need to do a run (as in how much).
2) How many of us would pony up to fund this.

I am willing to fund more than I need.
If I buy extras, I am willing to sell some on eBay.

So I'd be a $500 contributor.

Who else is in?
