Re: NiceCast

2012-10-28 Thread Gordon Smith
So which encoder are you using on the Mac? I ask because the Shoutcast 2
protocol has been rewritten and if Nicecast doesn't support it it is obsolete
so your station won't appear in the Shoutcast directory.

But this isn't the same, because we're talking about live radio here, not
static recorded material. Shoutcast v2 is far far more powerful. It can
stream to multiple serves at once, using multiple formats. The live song
history etc. is sent to the Shoutcast directory and your station can become
either highly rated or otherwise. Shoutcast 2 for IntelĀ® Mac was released
around about September of this year.

Re: NiceCast

2012-10-28 Thread Sarah Alawami
Yeah I know about that. lol! Well let's hope nice cast will update their
software to support shout cast V2. For now I'll stick to shout cast V1 and ice
cast with transcoders as that is what works. I'll worry when we go to an MF
transmitter, but that's years and years away. I also hope nice cast will make
their effects panel more accessible but I very much doubt that will happen. v'e
spoken to their staff and they give me some excuse that they are coming out
with a new system and they don't' want to be bothered writing the old system
to make the changes.

Good luck.

Free texting app

2012-10-28 Thread Paula Hobley
Hi there

I was wondering if anybody in Australia has had experience with the
application for the Mac called Free Texting. I downloaded it and can't get
it to send text messages. Can anybody recommend a free texting app that
does actually work. I'm looking for something that uses the net to send
messages rather than charging me a minimal amount to send texts as I have
unlimited calls and texts on my phone. It's just that typing the message is
easier than sending them from my phone.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

Paula

Paula,
You can use your eMail program for sending text messages. Every phone
company has an address for receiving text messages from eMail, like
Verizon's is 10-digit-phone-num...@vtext.com

RE: Free texting app

2012-10-28 Thread Paula Hobley
Hi Glenn

Does this mean you have to know the phone company of the person you are
sending the text to?

Thanks for your help with this.

Cheers

Paula

Paula,
You can use your eMail program for sending text messages. Every phone
company has an address for receiving text messages from eMail, like
Verizon's is 10-digit-phone-num...@vtext.com
HTH.

Cheers

Paula

That is a shame, at least you should be able to text someone in the U.S. or
perhaps elsewhere in the world.

Hi Glenn

From what I can tell, we can't send sms from email to text in Australia.
How annoying.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Paula,
Yes, but if you know the list of addresses for the various companies, you
can send a message to all of them with the same phone number, and if it is
not for that company, it will bounce back.
I don't know what companies are in your country, but you can Google it.

Apple mail failure

2012-10-28 Thread Danny Noonan
Like I feared, my mbp had ml fresh installed. I copied my saved mail folder
over the auto generated one as described and now, I have 1800 new messages,
none of the folders they belong in, no access to 99.9% of them, no way to send
and perhaps no way to receive and almost all menu options greyed out including
the ability to quit mail.

Not quite what I expected. Any suggestions greatfully accepted. I have the
backed up mail folder and a time machine external backup of the old boot drive.

Thanks,
Danny
