Re: Accessible DVR

2012-11-20 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
This is getting off topic, but I'll give you a hint on how I do this, then,
past that point, you can write me off list if you have any further
questions.

I'll even be willing to make an audio tutorial if you'd like me to.

Basically, you need to apply through Time Warner, for their online My
Services option. It's totaly free to sign up for, don't worry. You might
have to get a little help getting through the initial sign up process, as
the web site is quite graphical in nature, and is at best, quite difficult
to navigate. The nice thing is however, once you're signed up, there's a
whole different web site we'll use for managing the DVR, which is so
stupidly ridiculously easy to navigate, that literally the most basic level
web browsing type individual could get through this with absolutely no issue
at all.

Beware that when you sign up, you're gonna need a copy of your bill, as
there will be a 4 digit pin... hint... this isn't the last 4 digits of the
primary account holder's SSN. This is a totally different number which is
printed on your bill.

You also will see your account number. Here is my account number with a few
characters randomly changed in order to protect my security. Generally
though, the number will look something like:

579806342.

Again, that is *NOT* obviously my account number, so no mods kill me, ok?
I'm not that stupid. I purposefully have changed around a few digits, and
I'm not even gonna say which ones I changed, let alone what they should a
been. Anyway, you'll need that number, as well as the 4 digit pin. Once
you are signed up, then you need to visit

http://mdvr.timewarnercable.com

Then, simply log/sign in.

From here, it's as symple as browsing, or searching for the show, bringing
up the details of it, then clicking the link to record, cancel series, or
record series. Then setting your record options, then confirmming.

If you want to sign up for My Services and do this, then go simply to:

http://www.timewarnercable.com
Once here, click on the link that says My Services. Then, on this page, I
think there is a register link, or something of the sort. Again, it's been
a while since I set it up on my mom and I's account, but I do remember, once
she read me the account number and pin, I stored that securely in a txt file
on my system, and never since have really had to worry about it. I'm
warning you that if you have an IPad, don't try the TWC TV app. It's not
very accessible. You'd be much better off with this method I just describe,
and BTW, yes the web site works perfectly! in Safari on I O S. I do it that
way all the time!

Anyway, as I said, this really is getting off topic, so I'll end this thread
here. If anyone wants more information, I encourage them to either call
Time Warner and ask about their beta of Remote DVR Manager through My
Services, or if you want more a blind perspective bit of help, then write me
off list at:

ch...@clgproductions.com

I'd be more than happy to help where I can. I've been using this service
for quite a while now, just over 2 years to be specific, so believe me, I
know both it, and the time warner dvr remote like the back of my hand,
provided you have one of the Scientific Atlantic boxes, which I think is
mainly now what they're using.

Chris.

Hi Patricia and all

Patricia, we had to forward your post to the list because the server
interpreted your subject line, help as an administrative syntactical command.
Please avoid using subject lines like help because in future we will be
rejecting messages like that without notification. I know it was innocent and
you didn't mean any harm, which is why I opted to let this one through. But
from now on we won't be doing so. This is to cut down the amount of time I have
to spend each day on list admin.

Your cooperation would be appreciated.

Re: Combo boxes with VO

I have come across some boxes that don't let you do VO space to select so have
to press enter or at times, press VO space and then have to turn off and on VO
to get out of the edit field. This is rare though so I agree, always try VO
space first.

Twice today I was unable to select an item from a combo box using VO. I
can interact by pressing either VO down arrow, or just down arrow by
itself, but once I find the item I want, I can't make the selection stick.
I've tried pressing VO spacebar on the item, the return key, a mouse
click, and just tabbing away or dis-interacting, but the combo box always
reverts back to the initial entry.

First it was in text edit trying to select a font size, then in iTunes
trying to set a genre for a video.

Any help appreciated

Hi Phil,
One way I found to do it for sure is to root the mouse to the selected number
with vo-command-f5, and performa virtual click with vo-shift-space. You should
almost certainly report the failure of VO-space to do the same thing to Apple

Hi folks,

For those using GMail, as TJ says, there is a delete all button in the
Trash mailbox. You have to explicitly move the messages there first
though. The only other service I hae going through Mail is my work E-Mail on
an Exchange server. With Exchange, you can delete messages irectly from the
Inbox.

Are there any offerings in the newsstand app that are accessible using
voice over?

Will either versions work for fixing external hard drives?
Thanks,

 Hi all

A while ago, somebody on list made an enquiry regarding a data recovery
solution. As it happens, I have just found myself in a situation where I was
in need of just such a utility. So my first port of call was the Apple App
Store and, to my very great surprise, I came across a little application
called Data Recovery Guru. There are two versions of this application.
One is the App Store version and the other is the Website version. The
difference is that, in order that the utility complies with Apple App Store
regulations, it has the facility to scan all of your internal drives or
partitions disabled. This is not the case with the website version. If you
by the App Store version, then download and install the Website version, you
have two licensed copies. However, the cost is still the same. So we
elected to simply buy the Website version and not bother installing the App
Store one. I am currently evaluating how much data can be recovered by
 trying to undelete tw
 o
crucial files which I accidentally deleted, then emptied the trash before
realising my mistake. The application is a little on the expensive side,
priced at $99.00 US Dollars. But I guess you evaluate its worth by the
results it gives you. What I have seen so far as it scans makes me think
that it is very thorough and impressive.

The down side is that the volumes and drives table is very nondescript.
Therefore, if you have multiple volumes mounted or multiple drives connected,
(as we have), it isn't possible to know exactly which drive you are scanning.
I guess the best solution would probably be to disconnect all but the volume
where you know your lost data was. Then, simply do a scan from there. You
can probably always safely assume that your internal start drive is at the
top of the list at all times. So if you only have one single volume
connected externally, you're pretty safe to assume where the scan will take
 place.

Anyway, as I told you, the application is called Data Guru. You can read
 more about it here:
 http://www.macosxfilerecovery.com
and, if you have valuable data which you want to recover, give the
 application a spin.
