Help with mouse

2013-06-16 Thread Catherine Turner
Hello,

I wonder if it's possible to control click a certain file in Explorer
using the mouse with Voiceover. The reason I ask is I want to access
the view previous versions item on a Dropbox file. From
instructions I read this option appears after control clicking a file
in Explorer - is there a keyboard equivalent of this? If not, I
wonder how to get the mouse to the correct place and control click.
It should also be possible to do this via the dropbox website but I
can't ind the option that's meant to appear so maybe it's not visible
to Voiceover in Safari.

Anyhow I open Finder, have quick nag off, arrow to the file I want,
press VO Command f5, then (with mouse keys on) press Control numpad 5.
THis does option click on a file as the menu I want comes up, but it
is not the file I wanted. It seems the mouse is stuck on one
particular file and I can't get it to the file I want. ALso on this
subject, I don't understand why in the commands help the command for
mouse up and mouse downer the same? And how come there isn' a command
for mouse left or mouse right?

Has anyone got any ideas how I can option click a file? Or has anyone
found another way to view previous versions of a file in Dropbox?

Thanks,
Catherine

A Look at ProTools part1 has been uploaded.

2013-06-16 Thread Chris Gilland

Good morning, or evening everyone, depending on where you're located.

In the past, there has been a lot of discussion both on and off list about
the accessibility and use of ProTools from an accessibility standpoint with
Voiceover. I've been asked to appear on certain podcasts and then due to
things that were completely out of my control, I was unable to participate
in those submitions. This is going to be going out to a lot of places. I'm
hoping to put this link out on my Twitter, as well as my Facebook,

@gilland_chris

http://www.facebook.com/christopher.gilland

As well as my own personal podcast:

http://www.clgpodcast.net

This furthermore is in the process of being approved for an Applevis
submition.

I plan to make this series as in depth as I possibly can make it, and as
thorough as I can possibly make it as well. We'll be talking about the use
of ProTools, how to interact with the application using Voiceover, certain
work arounds to things that might not be the most accessibly intuitive, as
well as we'll also be learning about some crucially important sound
production techniques/skills that you must be able to master in order to
have the most optymal benefit from ProTools. This is really big guys, as I
know a lot of you all have wanted me to do this for quite some time, and
now, I'm finally getting the time to do so. Here's what I am going to say
as far as other podcast interviews. Let's wait, and let me get this whole
series finished and out to you guys, and then once I've finished up the
series, if at that point, you want to interview me, we'll talk. I'm doing
it this way, so that you'll up front have a working idea of my knowledge, as
well as my style in how I present things.

So all this being said, here is the link to Part 1. This recording runs
just over half an hour. I can't promise you that all the recordings are
going to be this short, but this one will be. Let's get some feedback. If
you all want me to continue the series after hearing this, I'd be more than
happy to! I will admit that Kevin Reeves who is in the blind community has
done an absolutely fantastic! couple of mp3 files which are quite in depth,
however some people have said that they didn't really like his style. I
don't really know why that is, as I personally thought it was brilliant!
but, whatever. Each is to their own. The other thing is, he only did maybe
about 3 files all total. What I! plan to do, is make this into a continuing
series, and really get very serious about really showing you all the true
power of this software. I'm not only gonna cover the basics, but hopefully,
over time, as the recordings progress, and we build off what you already
know, we can actually begin to dive into more advanced parts of the program.

You all are gonna be a huge factor in what things I show you in these files.
A lot of it will be crutial that I show you, but if there is anything
specific that you want for me to show, please let me know, and I'll see what
I can do.

OK. So, here we go! Here's the link for part 1.

http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/wfvhz7

You guys let me know what you think, and we'll go from there.

Chris.

Hi Catherine,

I am providing you with a link of an audio presentation where Steve Sawczyn
shows how to configure the MacBook Pro and VoiceOver so that you can use the
keyboard to control or option click the mouse. Steve is showing how to access
the Dropbox menu using option click but you could apply the same idea to a file.

If you follow Steve's instructions, you should be able to configure this.

Re: Help with mouse

2013-06-16 Thread Bryan Jones
Hi Catherine,

Using the following steps, I was able to access the Dropbox menu option to
View Previous Versions.
This assumes Dropbox is installed and is syncing properly.
This was done using a 2011 MacBook Air running OS 10.8.4 and Dropbox 2.0.22.

Step 1. Using standard VO commands, navigate to the Finder and press Command+N
to open a new Finder window.
Step 2. Interact with Finder's sidebar and then navigate to the Dropbox folder
in the sidebar.
Step 3. Press VO+J to jump to (and automatically interact with) the window
containing the list of files in the local dropbox folder.
Step 4. Press Command+2 to switch to list view. Note that this step isn't
necessary, but in my experience VO navigation just seems to work better in
either list or column views.
Step 5. Use the VO+Up/Down arrows to navigate to the desired file.
Step 6. Press VO+Shift+M to open the current file's shortcut menu.
Step 7. Arrow down through the shortcut menu to the View Previous Versions
item and press the Return key to activate it.
Step 8. On my system this opened a Safari page to my online Dropbox account
with an accessible list of the versions for this file. The first column in the
list is the version number and if I press VO+Spacebar on it, a copy of the file
downloads into the Downloads folder on my Mac.

HTH,
Bryan

iTunes 11

2013-06-16 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi all

Maybe I'm doing something wrong here, but iTunes is causing me a great deal of
frustration of late. I am trying to create playlists using contiguous track
listings of an album. So, I do a search in my library for the album title.
The title is displayed and I hit enter on the album to add it to the up Next

In the last version of iTunes, the albums tracks would then be displayed. But
now, if I move the cursor down the list I get an album grid and it just goes on
to something else which is not what I searched for. Where am I going wrong
herE?

Kind regards

My guess is that any of them work across all platforms.

Are you in classic view? if not go to view and if it says show side bar hit
enter on it. Now you should be able to do what you want to be doing regarding
playlists.

Mac Mini RunningML: Various questions

2013-06-16 Thread Amber R. Herrin
Hello all,

First, I am sure I will ask questions that have been addressed before. I am
apologizing ahead of time. I do not recall how to search the archives, and I
did not see an obvious way on the Mac-access website.

I am happy to click links if someone would rather look these things up than
have to re-write the answers to these questions. I just do not know how to
search for the answers that I know already exist. Should someone also be
inclined to share how I might search for these things on my own in future, I
would be extremely grateful!

First, my system has been dragging. I am at a training program and did not
bring my monitor with me. I know there was some discussion as to whether or
not a monitor was absolutely needed in order to fix this problem, but I do not
recall what the final determination was, nor am I in a position to obtain a
monitor, even if the determination were that one should have one. I do have
one at home; I just chose not to bring it with me to save the inevitable
accidents that were bound to take place with the airlines.

The second question is about updating (which, again, could be to do with my
lousy internet connection, but just in case…) I have been trying to update,
because according to the app store, I have several. Everything else except the
Operating system and updates pertaining to native apps has updated. When this
starts updating (which takes me forever to manage, considering every key I
press causes finder or mail or current app to say it is busy), it begins the
download and goes along with no problem for a while, and then randomly, I
receive an error that says that an error occurred and giving me an ok button.

Third, I have the wireless apple keyboard which runs on batteries and does not
have a numb pad etc. How can I make the home, end, as well as page up and down
keys?

The truth is that when I first got my Mac in 2011, I spent a lot of time on the
Mac side. But my state had configured it to run windows via bootcamp for
school purposes, and I got so busy with school that I just quit rebooting into
the Mac side, and have forgotten a lot of what I used to know.

I will be done with school soon, and will be in a position to spend more time
doing my personal computing on the Mac side. My goal is to stop using windows
altogether once I am done with school, to reformat my hard drive and use only
the Mac Operating System.

Any and all assistance would be appreciated!

Best,

Amber

I can answer the question about the apple bt keyboard as i have one.

the page up and page down and home and end are your up, down, left and right
arrows respectively when you hit the fn key on the very left hand lower corner
of the keyboard.

Take care.

Re: Mac Mini RunningML: Various questions

2013-06-16 Thread Cathy
hi Amber,

I have a mac mini and had the same complaints about busy signals as you
describe. Ester wrote a good explanation and gave some links that were very
helpful to me. so I am quoting her message in part for you.

Cathy

Ester wrote:

The most complete answer that I've seen on how to use a Mac mini without a
monitor is written up at John Panarese's Adventures with My Mac Mini blog
article at his Macfortheblind.com pages:
http://macfortheblind.com/?p=591

The key piece of information is the link to the Sewell Direct Sewell TVdeck PC
to TV Converter (VGA to Composite):
http://sewelldirect.com/pc-to-tv.asp
Sewell Part #: SW-23000 Mfg Part #: SW-23000
Price: $29.95

John used that in combination with an Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor (I
think the current product model number is MB572Z/B but you should check that
out for yourself -- the Apple Knowledge Base document on video adapters and
connectors that was last updated on March 1, 2013 indicates that the MB572Z
part number series works world wide for all Mac Minis dating from the Early
2009 model and later, except for machines sold in China,Taiwan, and Korea,
which use the MB570FE part number series.) For that solution you need to buy
the two adapters -- the Apple connector and the one from Sewell direct. There
are also hand-made solutions that involve soldering connector pins on the
output adapter, but this is an off-the-shelf solution you can buy for a total
price of about $60 that is less cumbersome than carrying around a monitor.

Like the others, I do not own a Mac Mini, so I can only summarize the
information that I have read several times on various mailing lists. (I can,
however, if necessary, link you to the original posts by people who owned Mac
Minis and stated what did and did not work for them.)

The issue is not that the Mac Mini cannot be used at all without a monitor
connected, but that when it is used with VoiceOver without a monitor, it is
sluggish, preferences are not remembered, such as automatically starting up
VoiceOver at login, and particularly when internet access using Safari, iTunes,
etc. is activated there is a noticeable performance hit in terms of busy
messages and lack of responsiveness. I've only read of one recent Mac Mini
user, not on this list, who claims that his Mac Mini runs perfectly well
without a monitor. Since this is someone who ordered a fully loaded system
(maxed up on memory, etc.), and is also a new switcher who could not give
comparison performance of his system or any other Mac system's performance with
a monitor connected, I'm not sure how to evaluate this.

Ramping things up a bit: A Look at ProTools Part 6

2013-06-16 Thread Chris Gilland

OK guys, we have a lot of ground to cover here, so hold on to your hats!

This is where we're going to really start getting into more navigation, and
moving around within a session. Also, I'm gonna teach you the concept of
markers, and how they are used, and more, why they are so incredible! We're
also going to re-enforce the keystrokes that you already have learned. Let
me outline them below for ya.

Space bar/num pad 0 is your play/stop.
Numpad 3 is record.
F12 is record, provided you remap your dashboard to another key instead.
Return, careful here! takes you to the beginning of the session.
Option+Return takes you to the end of the session.
I'll be teaching you in this recording what numpad enter does, but for now,
just know it does something entirely different than the return key.

Shift+R arms the currently selected track/tracks for recording.
Shift+S solos and unsolos the currently selected track/tracks.
Shift+M mutes and unmutes the currently selected track/tracks.

OK. Here is the link to part 6. Let's keep going.
