Tin tin is good but is there a way to make one line read completely when a

reading text and as soon as new text came voice over started reading new
text before reading the previous line. Is there a way to fix this problem?

Re: Mud Client; please excuse my ignorance!

2012-05-14 Thread Ian McNamara
Hi Lynn, a mud client is a programe that allows you to connect to muds, a mud
is an online text adventure game where you type commands to make your character
do what you want them to. You play with people over the net, some have up to
100 players or more playing at any one time. They are some of the best games
for blind people because they are text based so there is no advantage weather
blind or sighted players are playing, also it means blind and sighted players
can play together on an even keel. Some are massive and some are small but they
all have there own worlds and settings.

Oh don't give up so fast, there's all kinds of games, I don't think they are
all magic and combat, but then again I haven't been to the mud connecter
website in years now. You won't find things like basketball and baseball
there, but if it can be a text then someone has probably tried it. So I'm sure
there are a ton of puzzle games etc too, that just happens to be a category
that doesn't interest me though. But perhaps when you've gotten hooked on
mudding, then I might see you over at mud legend *lol*

Go explore, more people leads to more ideas for games.

Not that sort of play. I didn't realise this was for gaming. Our computers

But yes, it's all down to individual choice. I certainly wouldn't tell anybody

Hi Lynne, well it's all just one more task for a machine to do, just as some of
us play with audio a lot, and I guess some really love to do the social thing,
just as there those who like trying to write and develop stuff. There have
been a few developers who started as gamers, then wanted to learn those codes
to write better ones, and then they were hooked into actually learning computer
code formats at that point. Just different streets, or in this case different

Hello Thomas

Yes, I'm not trying to preach or anything, as I said before it's to each their
own. I take the point about developers as well. It's just a purely personal
decision, end of story really. Computer games just don't interest us. That said
we use our computers for movies and music and that is our way of recreational
use of our Macs.

Gordon is a network administrator and server maintenance person. It's thanks to
that skill that this list is here; it runs on our own servers. So yes, you're
quite right.

Hello Thomas

There are currently 7 Mac Minis running various versions of OS X Server in this
building. Only 3 of them face the outside world. But their maintenance and
tweaking takes up a lot of Gordon's time. There is also one Mac Pro which
belongs to a commercial entity for whom we provide services related to their
network. That machine has 8 cores of processor power and 32GB of RAM. Yes, I
know; but we didn't pay for it. ;)

Gordon has the responsibility, helped to a degree by me, of keeping things
running smoothly and because Mac OS X is just so down right stable, it's a
pleasure rather than a bind to maintain them. He is hoping to overhaul our own
servers shortly which is going to create a lot of work in the short term. But
all things being equal, we should all get the benefit out of that; and I
include our various groups members in that statement.

I don't think it's likely in the foreseeable future that either of us will
develop an interest in playing computer games of any description. It's just not
something we're into. But as you rightly say there's nothing at all wrong with
those people who are into that side of things enjoying themselves with them. So
I wish you all as much fun as you can get out of your computers.

To us though, they are serious tools; with the exception of music, books and
movies.

So as they say, you all are computer poor huh? That's a few machines to
maintain then since people are dependent on them running, and folks can really
get cranked in a bad why when server systems go down.

We have 4 machines here, two are Macs one is the old Tiger machine we primarily
use the new i-mac here, my wife can see it a little better although the
computer usually doesn't interest her much anymore, perhaps when she recovers
more of her mind and memory she will get back into it again, and as a game
player she would put me to shame *lol*. Only she plays ones that aren't
accessible for me.

The other two are a windows laptop that is still usable, and an old windows
towner that will become a component of a server farm or a firewall one day,
don't think it's strong enough to upgrade anymore not without major replacement
of stuff.

The tiger machine officially belongs to my wife now, she always told me before
she got sick in 2009 that when we got new machine she wanted the tiger machine
as her's in total, so she gets that wish because she knows she can use this one
too since it's our's, but I still left my profile in that machine too so can
use it if she's on this one which some day will start happening more again I'm
sure.

Good luck to you guys on the current updating and revamping of the system.

Hi Travis:

I have a few question on the muddle program please.

I opened the sample.muddle in text edit but when I try to save it I do not know
what type of file format to save it in. I tried rtf or other one's but it won't
let me save it.

I don't know how to save it as a non file format or where it does not put that
extension at the end.

Also how do I create triggers, gagging and alias?

I am getting a little bit more understanding but I don't know how to save the
file and I assume the file should be called .muddle or does it need a preface
before the dot?

Please help with those questions.

Thankss in advance.
On Oct 5, 2011, at 8:09 AM, Travis Siegel wrote:

Muddle is a terminal app, this means that you need to edit terminal files to
 use it.
Text edit will edit these files, but it will require a little manual work.
First option is to load the muddle.sample into text edit, change your
aliases, triggers, and connections, then save it again, rename the
muddle.sample file to dot muddle (that's the word muddle preceeded by a
period) which will make it invissible to finder, so subsequent edits will
take a bit of fancy footwork. :)
As for using ip addresses instead of domain names, this is an artifact of the
way muddle connects to it's hosts, (again, something I'll fix as soon as I
get the other issues worked out)
To find the ip address of a mud, you'll need to use nslookup (not recomended
 lately) or whois.
I prefer nslookup, because it returns *only* the ip address, where as whois
gives all kinds of other info as well, which isn't relevant to your current
case, but the advantage of whois is that it can be run from a web browser or
any other whois client (and there's tons of them) so it is easier for folks
to hunt down the required info.

There are examples of all of the things muddle can do in the sample
configuration file, so you can take those and modify them to do what you like.
It's certainly not the easiest client to use, but the advantage is that it
loads, and gets out of your way, so you can do your mudding without having to
concern yourself with anything but the mud in question.
I don't mud very often, but when I do, muddle lets me have multiple muds open
and keep track of all of them with a few simple commands. That's my primary
 reason for using it.

Re: mud client for the mac

2011-10-08 Thread Travis Siegel
There's sample triggers, aliases, and mud logins in the muddle.sample
file.
After you load the file into text edit, just save it again (don't
change it's type, it's a plain text file, and needs to stay that way)
You'll need to take a look at the entries in the muddle.sample file,
since that's where you'll find the samples that teach you how to make
aliases, triggers, and the like.
After you save the file, you'll need to rename it to .muddle (that's
the word muddle preceeded by a period)

That's all you need to do for that.
After that's done, drop to terminal, and just type muddle and you're
off and running.
After this happens, type c and the name you used for the mud you wish
to connect to, and you're off and running on the mud now, hope this
helps.

Re: mud client for the mac

2011-10-05 Thread Travis Siegel
Muddle is a terminal app, this means that you need to edit terminal
files to use it.
Text edit will edit these files, but it will require a little manual
work.
First option is to load the muddle.sample into text edit, change your
aliases, triggers, and connections, then save it again, rename the
muddle.sample file to dot muddle (that's the word muddle preceeded by
a period) which will make it invissible to finder, so subsequent
edits will take a bit of fancy footwork. :)
As for using ip addresses instead of domain names, this is an
artifact of the way muddle connects to it's hosts, (again, something
I'll fix as soon as I get the other issues worked out)
To find the ip address of a mud, you'll need to use nslookup (not
recomended lately) or whois.
I prefer nslookup, because it returns *only* the ip address, where as
whois gives all kinds of other info as well, which isn't relevant to
your current case, but the advantage of whois is that it can be run
from a web browser or any other whois client (and there's tons of
them) so it is easier for folks to hunt down the required info.

There are examples of all of the things muddle can do in the sample
configuration file, so you can take those and modify them to do what
you like.
It's certainly not the easiest client to use, but the advantage is
that it loads, and gets out of your way, so you can do your mudding
without having to concern yourself with anything but the mud in
question.
I don't mud very often, but when I do, muddle lets me have multiple
muds open and keep track of all of them with a few simple commands.
That's my primary reason for using it.

Re: mud client for the mac

2011-10-03 Thread Travis Siegel
The one I use is called muddle, and you can find it at the softocn
pages located at:

http://mac.softcon.com (under the terminal applications)
I'm working on adding both mip and mcp protocols to it, but having
trouble with the wrap around buffer it uses for it's text output, it
likes to dump the entire buffer from time to time on my testing
copy. :) The version posted at the site doesn't have the
enhancements though, so it's just your basic mud client, with
triggers, aliases, and multiple window support. The only problem
(that I've not fixed yet) is you need to use the mud's ip address
when you enter it into the connect list, not the host name itself.
I'll get that fixed too after I solve the buffer wrap around issues.

:)
hth.
(btw, it's terminal only, but leopard and above all talk just fine in
terminal, so there should be no issues unless you're using tiger).

Re: mud client for the mac

2011-10-03 Thread michael maslo
Hi, to connect using muddle do I need to use the ip address now?

Also is there a manual I can read to learn how to create triggers and alias?

If I could learn how to do that I would be willing to use this all the time.
Will you let us know when it is ready or when you have finished updating this
terminal?

Thanks in advance.
