[MacGroup] Apple to repair keyboards

2018-06-24 Thread Pen Helm
Apple has determined that a small percentage of the keyboards in certain
MacBook and MacBook Pro models may exhibit one or more of the following
behaviors:

Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly
Letters or characters do not appear
Key(s) feel "sticky" or do not respond in a consistent manner

Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will service eligible MacBook and
MacBook Pro keyboards, free of charge.

We have a free monitor if anyone can use it. It's a big ViewSonic CRT. Its
resolution is 2048 x 1536 @75Hz. It has a VGA connector, but we also have a

> Are any of the various tools worthwhile?

I use CylanceProtect; it claims to detect 99% of malware, as opposed to the
typical maybe 40%. You can get it from
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.malwaremanaged.com=DwIFAg=OAG1LQNACBDguGvBeNj18Swhr9TMTjS-x4O_KuapPgY=F2GFXrjLFqVo3VwvIlo_XYeEiRRjHv15rxcenz7A21woG2aFGcrzndoSsskxfmOs=jONf5gBlaXqH8h5lkASgRA6bMRqkJVTQdAzzviOJUnw=_aMVadLE9oI7MEPyi9ZM-RA0DXd1P3U4yFu7quUECAw=

I also use ClamXav, a more traditional program which scans your disk for virus
signatures. It often finds something in my email, but it can't give you any
helpful information, like, "affects Windows machines."___

To find out what apps you have are 32-bit: choose Apple menu > About this Mac;

If I understand you correctly, you can click on the file once in Finder, choose
File:Get Info, go halfway down where it says "Open with:" and change it to not
open with Bridge. If you like, you can even "Change All" files like that one.

What I did was to get a separate Gmail account, just for my iPhone. Your

Re: [MacGroup] Internet sharing

2015-08-18 Thread Pen Helm
Should I be concerned about the below message?

(I went ahead and tried it, but it did not work.)

I wanted to share my Internet connection with another computer, but it said:

Are you sure you want to turn on Internet sharing?

If your computer is connectred to a network, turning on Internet sharing may
affect the network settings of other computers and disrupt the network.
Contact your system administrator before turning on Internet sharing.

there is an article about how Apple's new iCloud Music Library corrupted
someone's music library. I wouldn't use it yet.

[MacGroup] Safari scroll bar

2015-06-23 Thread Pen Helm
I can't see the scroll bar in Safari. It's there, but invisible. How do I get
it back?
I've got Show scroll bars set to Always in System Preferences.
