[MacGroup] Tivo and YouTube TV

2019-11-23 Thread Sandy Price
Hi all —

I know Ed and others have educated the group on Tivo many times, but searching
past emails I don’t see specifics on recording shows from YouTube TV streaming
service. I would like to purchase a DVR device for my husband for Christmas so
I’m hoping to get some advice if Tivo is the best option, which model I should
get and how this works. Any comments are greatly appreciated!!

YouTube tv has its own cloud DVR.
To use it your best choice is a AppleTV.
Here is a review of it.

https://youtu.be/94kPJ9mcJ8Y

TiVo is for use with cable or over the air tv.
It does have streaming app’s but doesn’t have the streaming Tv
App’s it just has YouTube and Hulu but not the IPTV versions.

So it depends on what your choice is for do you want to do streaming tv or over
the air and cable recording.

Thanks, Ed and Tom. I agree YouTube TV DVR is good mostly, but the 9 months
storage doesn’t work. I want to keep recordings indefinitely. The other issue
is if we switch to a different streaming service the DVR is gone. So, I’d like
to purchase a physical DVR and record movies, shows, etc. that are available to
stream on YTTV. Any options on that?

There’s is Channel’s and a Homerun DVR server

https://getchannels.com/dvr-server/

You can have the app on an Apple TV and then a Homerun DVR server.
This is a more high tech solution.

Really the future of tv is on demand
Viewing. Everything one would want is available on the net now days.

You can not record easily of a streaming service like YouTube tv on to and
other device.
