Re: Moving to GitHub: Status Update, Action Required
Hi Clemens, great to see the GitHub conversion progressing this rapidly! Thumbs up from me!!! When reading the WorkingWithGit wiki page [1] I saw how port contributors can post their suggestions to MacPorts via "Pull Requests”, yet it does not get clear from that text how those PRs will then actually be included into the official repo… Just this moment I got invited to MacPorts' "Developer team" on GitHub and saw that I now have "pull access” to the MacPorts ports repository, which is probably enabling me in the future to push changes into it? But the term “pull access” confuses me here! I mean, I can pull in changes into my clone or fork from the MacPorts repo any time… Can you clarify this somewhat, as I have no experience yet in teams on GitHub!? Hi René, sorry, but this will be a little longer post, as I was finally putting a bit of work into my tests, because I’d also like to see qt5-kde as an alternative port on MacPorts soonish. Re: Virtual machines and OS X
Hi Michael, eventually I had to purchase Parallels 9 because VirtualBox wouldn’t allow to successfully run Mavericks guests on my Mavericks host running on an i7-iMac. Parallels usually works fine if you _disable_ power saving on the guests!! Sometimes but I experience hanging guests! Only chance to recover from that is to kill the VM in question from within the host system and restart it (which means a cold reboot). This usually happens when there is a lot of load with e.g. two VMs running with 7 cores each on the i7 (which has 8 real cores only). This can also happen when you’re creating a snapshot, while the 2nd machine is very busy. Sometimes also the keyboard’s CAPSLOCK is engaged, although the keyboard’s CAPSLOCK LED isn’t lit. Recovering from that you will be pressing the key a couple of times until the LED is back in sync with what you type. Re: icon generation on OS X 10.6
Hi René, Anyone know where icon generation is handled in cmake-based ports? I whipped up a replacement for the iconutil command using png2icns. oh, it's very nice that you've found a replacement for the tool. This might bring back a lot of application icons of KDE apps on OSX, which has been a long standing issue [1]! Alternatively you might consider port makeicns which is able to create various sizes of the source image, but perhaps png2icns can do the same... The command is picked up (if it's in /usr/bin ..) and icns files are generated, but they're not copied into the target appbundles, let alone installed as app icons. I think this is rather a question for KDE-DEVEL, perhaps. There is a ticket. OK, good to know. Will try to find that ticket now... My observation is that the archive that's downloaded takes the place of the one you would have otherwise compiled. Uninstalling the port deletes the archive (whether you built it or it got downloaded). Reinstalling the port requires downloading (or building) the archive again. Yep. Well, one has to admit, it's still so much quicker than building everything yourself. :-) ___ macports-users mailing list macports-users@lists.macosforge.org http://lists.macosforge.org/mailman/listinfo.cgi/macports-users
