Screen Curtain on / off
Hi All, I've seen this come up a few times before, but not sure if a resolution was offered or not. On my previous iPhone 3GS, and I'm rather sure my iPhone 4, but cannot be sure, the screen curtain was a statuc setting, by this I mean if I turned it on, the only time it went off is if I myself turned it off. however, I've noted that on this latest iPhone 4 I've got, upon restart an issue where the screen curtain is always off, no matter what state I leave it in prior to the restart. Re: Last words of a dieing pc... and creating windows vurtual machine on mac?
If you want to remove the entry as well, you will have to select the item in the list of VMs, navigate to the right and Fusion will inform you the file does not exist, and if you continue to the right, you will find a button to delete the VM. The software is very accessible; however, there are some unlabeled buttons, which I need to send a support notice about. In any case, in the screen where you find the list of VMs, there are options for setting up a new VM. If you go to File from the menubar, you also can select New and setup a VM this way as well. Just get familiar with the software interface and you will find all the options necessary. voiceover randomly freezing
ok, ever since I tried, and failed to update to 10.6.5, my machine has been displaying some weird problems. the top most one is that voiceover will freeze at random in the middle of reading a web page, writing an e-mail, or something else requiring its output. I have done the repair permissions bit and culled unused programs and their various spawnage. so what gives? VO will not respond to its CMD+F5 command to quit/restart. I actually have to get someone in here and tell me the process ID of the app so I can kill it directly. the malfunction doesn't seem to be making it into the logs either. Hi Anne, I've never been able to get your method to work. Some people said hitting Command-F5 once, then Command-Tab, then Command-F5 five times within thirty seconds works, too. However, since none of this works for me, I've found it safer in my case to hit Command-Space for Spotlight, type Terminal, hit enter and type killall -9 VoiceOver to ensure VoiceOver restarts. That's another way to do it, and it works if all else does not. I have experienced that sometimes, I am also unable to use keyboard shortcuts but that has only happened once. Re: Screen Curtain on / off
Hi all, I also have this problem that when I restart my iPod touch third gen running ios 4.1 the screen curtain goes off. I am not sure, but I think I read somewhere that apple did this on purpose to prevent someone who accidentally turned it on to not have any problems. To me that doesn't really make sense, since the only people who can turn the screen curtain are voiceover users and most of them wouldn't mind having it on. but still, I guess the problem occurred to someone and so they did it. hope this helps, Rafaela El 22/11/2010, a las 08:46, Scott Howell escribió: Keep me posted on your progress because this is an interesting issue. RE: voiceover randomly freezing
Hello everyone, This may not be an answer, however I found it to be the problem for me. Since I did the update on my mini, the mac had chose to make my magic Jack the primary output device. I had to get my daughter to switch it to the digital out which is what I use. Then all the other users were the same way. Last night I just unplugged the jack and restarted and re plugged the jack in and now everything is happy again. I have no clue why this switched, I do know that it has been a frustrating weekend though. First, Apple TV actually works unlike uverse. Also, when playing something you've recorded on Apple TV you don'tuse up your internet pipe like you do for each show you recall on uverse. Since you only get 24 megabits or so it's best to offload as much from your connection as you can since ATT can't provide a very large or usable pipe. Re: Copying link in Sendspace Wizard.
No, no message from you since yesterday morning. Between Google and att, we're batting like the Cubbies!:) Well have a great Birthday, and we'll be in touch. KWSTA's Love me On Sep 22, 2010, at 11:27 PM, GEOFF WAALER wrote: Hi Nic, Sarah, and other Send spaced out Mac users, Thanks for the explanation, however after some testing I may be able to simplify it a bit. The following assumes that you're running the current version of the wizard (1.2.14) and and extended voiceOver compatibility enabled under the options menu, and of course that you are logging in properly upon start up and previously uploaded some files or folders. 1. Start the Wizard -- focus is on the tool bar. 2. Press option-r to get to remote file view (alternatively its located under menu - options - focus). 3. interact with the table. 4. VO-up/downArrow to the file for which you want to obtain the URL. 5. Verify that the trackpad commander is disabled. 6. Press vo-command-f5 to route the mouse (optionally verify via vo-f5). 7. Press control while clicking the left mouse button. 8. The menu appears. I don't know whether this is attributable to my skipping the steps about interacting with the various unknown controls, but so far my mouse pointer has always routed to my desired file or folder correctly. If it ever doesn't I will followNic's suggestion and route to the tool bar first. Very troubling that I can not display the contents of folders. I wonder whether this limitation is specific to VO users, or is folder support not implemented in the Mac version? Thanks again to everyone who responded! Geoff On Sep 22, 2010, at 3:30 AM, Nicolai Svendsen wrote: Hi Geoff! I'll do these steps as I explain them here, just to see that they still should work for everybody. I'll do all of these steps in the same order I am writing them down so everyone can follow along. 1. Open the Sendspace Wizard. That's a given, of course. :) 2. After logging into your Sendspace account, interact with the first unknown item after the toolbar. 3. Now, find the first unknown after all of the buttons which enable you to add a link for download. This is also the only unknown within this area, so it'll be the only one you'll see. It is also at the very bottom right if you use the trackpad commander. 4. Here, you will have two unknown items. I will explain what each of those do. The first one is for local items- This means that you can arrow to a file you would like to upload, then move to the remote part which is the second unknown within the unknown you interacted with. I know this probably gets a bit confusing. When you upload a file, you have to choose a folder that you would like to upload to on your remote location (which is your account). You can use the command F8 to upload the file you have chosen in your local view. Remote simply allows you to download and display folders and files on your current Sendspace account. Now, I will mention that I have not actually found a way to open folders within Sendspace, as the conventional commands don't appear to work for me. So, let's continue. 5. When you interact within the second unknown (which is remote), you can use F7 to download folders. This is where I have not found a way to download specific files. Control-click still works, however, as long as you remember to route the mouse. Mouse racking does not work in this Wizard, which is very important to remember. 6. Now you just route the mouse to the area within the table you would like to download or copy the link location for. You will have to use VoiceOVer keys here after interacting with the table, then route the mouse with VO-Command-F5 then do a control-click. The command do copy a link is Command-l, though. I can briefly make a list of the available commands below. They seem to work consistently, as long as you remember to actually move all the cursors. I've always found that I always bring up the menus to be on the safe side, regardless of consistency. FOllowing that, I have briefly made a list containing the commands for Sendspace, though whether you dare to use them is your choice. When in the Remote section, the following commands are available: New Folder - Command-F Download File - F7 Rename - F2 Copy Link Location - Command-L Cut - COmmand-X Paste - Command-V Delete - Forward Delete Properties - Option-Return Send Folder Link - Command-E Refresh - F5 When in the local section, the following commands are available: New Folder - COmmand-F Upload file - F8 Rename - F2 Delete - Forward-Delete Properties - Option-Return Refresh - Command-F5 If anyone would like me to demonstrate, I will, but you may have to wait a couple of hours before I am able to do so. I hope this helped somebody. Also, just a hint. If you found your mouse focus does not route when using VO-Command-F5, try going all the

El Gato makes very nice video capture devices that work with the Mac. There's one called the 250 that's great and they also have a USB dongle version that's very portable. Re: not getting copy of sent messages
I, too, noticed this change to Google messages last week. 1. When I send a new message to the list, I receive it in my Inbox. 2. However, when I reply to a list message such as I am doing now, I no longer receive a copy of it. This is a setting usually configured by the owner of the List. Re: Screen Curtain on / off
Hi Isaac. Screen curtain is like a curtain that goes over the screen so know one knows that you are writing confidential text or document so that if a sighted person looks at your phone the screen is blank. I think you can do it on the Macs too. I did this once and as I wanted a sighted person to look at my I phone's display, thought this was odd until I remembered that I had left the screen curtain on so naturally the sighted person could not see the display on my phone. Re: confirming apple tv has vo support
From wikipedia: Apple TV is a digital media receiver made and sold by Apple Inc. It is a small form factor network appliance designed to play IPTV digital content originating from the iTunes Store, Netflix, YouTube, Flickr, MobileMe or any Mac OS X or Windows computer running iTunes onto an enhanced-definition or high-definition widescreen television. Apple offered a preview of the device in September 2006 and began shipping it the following March.[1] It initially shipped with a 40GB hard disk; a 160GB version was introduced two months later and the earlier model was ultimately discontinued. In September 2010, Apple announced a second-generation version of the Apple TV. About a quarter of the size and one-third of the price of the original Apple TV, the new device can stream rented content from iTunes and video from computers or iOS devices via AirPlay.[2] The new version has no hard drive; however, it does have 8 gigabytes of flash storage for caching purposes.[3] All content is drawn from online or locally connected sources. Like I was saying, something like the el gato box would do this. Not sure about if that works cleanly with Apple TV though, I suspect it may. I do not believe that that is true. There is a free service that you can gain access to by just going to www.titantv.com. Then you turn the service on on the eye tv and it checks to see if you have updated your schedule every hour if you would like. So you can be at the office and set your schedule up remotely. VoiceOver in iOS 4.2 first impressions
Hi all, I've just updated my iPhone 3gs and played around with it a bit, so I thought I'd let you all know what I've found out so far. You can now disable the volume buttons if you like, which is actually very handy for us VO users. With them disabled, you can control VO's volume just by pressing them, rather than making it speak first. Nice. :) you can find this toggle in the sounds section of settings. As mentioned in the Maccessibility article, you can now add a rate setting to the rotor. The setting is located in Vo's settings, directly below the rate slider. we can now finally read the birthdays field in Contacts. VO now identifies headings in applications, by saying heading after the text. For example, the title of an app is a heading. personally I'd rather it didn't, or played a sound instead, but there you go.Also, after reading a review of an app, it'll say dimmed. VO now plays a quiet sound when something pops up, like if you're typing a name into the to: box and it finds a match from your contacts when you're sending a text, or if the keyboard appears. Finally, we can now access the dismiss app switcher button, which appears directly above the row of icons. There are a few more enhancements that Maccessibility have already mentioned, which I haven't tried yet, and they'll probably be more things that I haven't found yet. So I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who has tried the new version. Dannie -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. broadcast software for the mac
Looking for something that resembles the old sam encoders for winamp on the mac. I blew away my bootcamp partition on my mac mini, which was acting as my broadcast machine, because windows was getting in my way. I figure there has to be some shoutcast compatible software to broadcast to shoutcast servers on the mac. Requirements are naturally to be able to broadcast to a shoutcast server, plus archive the broadcast to the computer as it's happening. Generally I broadcast at 128K mp3 stereo. If there are effects or such in the software for compression and the like, that's fine. But those are the basic requirements. I know there was this thing called nicecast or something, but I don't recall it being completely voiceover friendly. Any ideas here on what to use that isn't going to be too crazy? I am generally taking input from the line in jack on the mac, so don't need to set up playlists or whatever, just need it to take audio input from the line input and broadcast it to a shoutcast server and archive that broadcast to the computer. Re: Searching in Mail?
Awesome. wow that was simple. How did I not notice this? Again, thanks heaps. Ah. That makes things a hole lot easier On 23/11/2010, at 5:05 PM, Mark BurningHawk Baxter wrote: Command Option F will take you to the search field. I believe also that Spotlight will find text in saved mail messages as well as any other instance of a search string on your Mac. • Mark BurningHawk Baxter • AIM, Skype and Twitter: BurningHawk1969 • MSN: burninghawk1...@hotmail.com • My home page: • http://MarkBurningHawk.net/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Searching in Mail?
Hi James, If you want a specific example of the kinds of searches you can run (full text, subject, from field, etc.), you can read my archived reply to Mary: (Re: searching for a specific saved mail message): http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg18079.html (To read up the thread to a previous post, use Control-P; to read down the thread to the next post, use Control-N. This is for Safari. Other browsers have different access keys in place of the Control key -- e.g. Alt for Internet Explorer). HTH.
