Re: How do I reliably right-click links in Safari using VoiceOver?
Hi Esther, thank you so much. As always a very valuable information by Esther. :-) I don't know why just pressing Option + Enter on a link not always works in my case. But first jump to the address field seems to work reliably. All the best from snowy Germany Jürgen Am 06.02.2013 um 16:40 schrieb Esther mori...@mac.com: Hello Jürgen, Darrell, and Others, I'll just add the comment that if you ever have started playing an mp3 file in your browser, you can press command-L to highlight the location in the browser followed by Option-enter to force this to download to your default downloads location instead of continuing to play.. This is the regular Mac shortcut known as Option-Click to force downloads of highlighted items. VoiceOver automatically highlights the link when you navigate there, so holding down the Option key and then pressing return (or enter as many like to say) automatically forces the download. When you navigate to the address bar with Command-L, the link address is automatically highlighted. So this is what Mike's sequence of commands is doing: it's placing the highlighted link address in the address bar so he can press Option-Enter to force the download. I usually move items from my downloads folder. If I want to download a number of items to another folder, I may bring up the Safari preferences menu with Command-comma, and temporarily change the default download location. HTH. Re: Accessibility of tax Filing process
I'm glad people are able to use tax act.com to do their taxes from the Mac. Last year, I did it using Firefox on a linux machine and it generally went well until I ran into their CAPTCHA that I encountered every time I wanted to efile my return. Thank God for webvisum at the time. I sure hope they quit using that this year. The reason people like using these type services like taxact or Turbo Tax is they will transfer your 1040 data over to the respective state forms for you if you choose to do state returns with them also. It's much easier that way. No paper, no signatures, money can be sent or received directly to your bank accounts and all that good stuff. I wouldn't want to do it any other way. Cn't play a video on Vimeo
Good day to all. I am attempting to play a video on Vimeo.com. I tried the link for Flash, and also clicked on the html5 player link, which was given as an option. It is playing on a colleague's Windows computer, but I cannot get it to play on my MacBook. Any solutions? Thanks. Re: iTunes issue.
Again, thanx for the info; I unchecked all 3 checkboxes under the advanced settings, and that seems to have worked. I tested it under 1 of the files on my harddrive, and so far they seem to be staying where I left them. On Feb 6, 2013, at 2:29 PM, Esther wrote: Hi Ray, Unchecking the boxes for Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library in the advanced pane of your iTunes preferences doesn't work after the fact once you've added the folders to your iTunes library with these unchecked, but it should work if you have these set before you add to library, as Chris stated. Files and folders are never renamed if they reside outside the current iTunes Media folder location when they are added. Only copies that placed in your iTunes Media folder location are renamed to match the label tags. You can always find the other versions out side of your iTunes library location if that's where they were located originally, change your preference settings, delete the versions copied to iTunes, and add these again. And I though you could manually manage your music if you sync your iPhone to your computer. Probably the easiest way to control this, though, is to create a playlist that contains music you want on your device, and check that you only want checked library tracks and playlists to sync. retiring my apple bt keyboard
There was a bt keyboard suggested by Johnathan Mosen, it's called the logitech easy switch. You can pair it with 3 devices, I have mine paired with my mac, iPhone, and apple tv. The keyboard is about the same size as the apple bt keyboard. But the keys are more rounded, have a little indent in them to fit your fingers better, and has a on off switch on the upper righ edge. It also doesn't take standard batteries, it is charged by a usb cord, and is said to last up to 3 months without a charge depedning how much you use it. If you are considering this keyboard, make sure you get the right one. The model 810 is for a PC, and the model 811 is for the mac. They both work with IOS devices, but the pc one, will not work with the mac, and the mac one would not work with your pc. I love this keyboard, the typing is smoother than on the apple bt keyboard. it even has the media keys that work well with your IOS device, and I love switching devices on the fly. Just got a text on my phone, replied, and switched right back to finish this email. Thanks Johnathan for that suggestion, best purchase I made so far, except for my speedy 2012 mac mini. Re: solution to iOS 6 jailbroken devices which won't boot
Hi yes, it works for the call back method. but not for direct dial. So I use a combination of call back method and auto answer. With auto answer I can set my own gv number as the incoming number which gets auto-answered. So, when I place an outgoing call, it does the call back, making my phone receive an incoming call from my gv number. Auto answer does it's job and automagically answers the call, and the outcome is a seamless outbound call like everyone else, but coming from my GV number. It works like a champ. As to why this tweak didn't work on the other iPhone, my guess is that since I saved my settings, installing it on my own i Phone made it read the settings file and somehow that prevented it from locking up. However on the other iPhone which never had Phone GV Extension, maybe there was no settings file to read. So, if I find where the settings are kept, maybe I'll transfer that information to the other phone and then install the extension to see if my guess is right. Who knows, more to play with. At least I now know how to get it out of this zombie mode in case I screw things up again. grin. I love this. -- Raul A. Gallegos I haven't spoken to my wife in years. This is usually because of a tweak or app which isn't fully compatible with iOS 6 jailbreak. This message isn't to hear from the ensconced nonjailbreakers saying that if you didn't jailbreak in the first place, none of this would have happened. Instead, this message is to offer a solution to those who might have gotten themselves in a situation where their phone is unresponsive and resetting and re-jailbreaking seems to be the only solution. If you are a new jailbreaker and are trying it for the first time, having a newly jailbroken device might make you go back to jailed status and not want to explore. I'm here to say that it's not the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine. This happened to me when I installed Phone GV Extension on one of my iPhones, yet it didn't happen on the other. Go figure. Before I knew how to get out of this mess and reboot in safe mode, I just reset the phone and jailbroke again, however that takes a lot of time. So, all you have to do is first reset your phone the regular and Apple approved way by pressing and holding Home and Power/Sleep buttons for around 10 seconds. Then release the buttons and wait for the reboot to happen. Now, this might fix your problem, but if it doesn't, then boot your device in safe mode and then you can go into Cydia and remove the app or tweak which caused your woes in the first place. To do this, reset your phone using the method I described, while it's booting up, press and hold the volume up button. Do this until the phone boots and Voice Over speaks. It will now be in safe mode. Now you can open Cydia and remove the last app or tweak you installed and then reboot normally to be out of safe mode and the Apple should be round again. RE: solution to iOS 6 jailbroken devices which won't boot
I've text you a couple times this week, but didn't get an answer. I tried to install on my iPhone5, and it locked up on me like yours did, and this app was never there. Interesting. -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Raul A. Gallegos Sent: Thursday, February 07, 2013 11:59 AM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: solution to iOS 6 jailbroken devices which won't boot Hi yes, it works for the call back method. but not for direct dial. Tuns of hot keys, easy to access features like colours, fonts, pitch, style etc in there own easy to access areas and it's compatible with 2 or 3 flavours of office files. Word 97 and 2003 I think from memory. So far, it's been snappy and VO has no problems what so ever. I haven't tested every single feature but everything I have, it works. There is a payed version for $12.95AUD which give even more features such as customisable hot keys and I think I'm going to buy it even if just to support a developer who makes an app in Coco that works straight out of the box or is that straight off the DownLoad. Search for iText on the MacAppStore and both flavours will show up. The payed version has info on extra features that you get. Re: changing document extensions in text edit
Hi there Changing an extension is actually very easy, if that's all you want to do. You can do that in finder by pressing enter on the filename going to the end of the line taking out the current extension, and then changing it. After you change it, press enter and then you will be asked if you really want to do that press the L right arrow, and then theon the choice you want. However, if you really want to make a doc file from an RTF file so that word is happy with the file, you can't do that from text edit. You would need to have Pages to do that. Re: changing document extensions in text edit
Sorry for my mistake. I just went into TextEdit, and noticed this. It turns out that this is a little weird, and I had never noticed this in TextEdit. If you call up an existing rtf file, then you don't get an option to change it once you have saved it out as an rtf file. However, if you press command n to start a new file, and you have never saved it out before, then you get a chance to save in Word formats of different kinds. So, if you have already saved out your file,. then you can select all your text, make a new file, and then save it out in whatever Word format you want. I know this is a work around, but it should work. Regards, Gigi On Feb 7, 2013, at 4:31 PM, Randy George george.ra...@gmail.com wrote: Thank you so much for the information. Re: Zoom text for Mac
I downloaded Zoomtext successfully last night and took it for a short spin. It seems to work quite well. I went to the products link on the AI Squared website and found the Mac download link there. I had to enter my name, email and a few other details and it then downloaded the file to my download folder. The process was quite painless. Would anyone know what I have not done correctly? Would anyone be willing to guide me in the direction I need to go in order to download this demo? Thanks for any help anyone can provide. Status of busies in Firefox?
Last I heard, Firefox still was not that great. I hear it was sort of, ish! doable, and certainly in a pinch would work, but still had a really really long way to go. I hear that even on systems with a butt load of ram, it still says busy busy almost constantly. I just wondered if anyone has any more information as for the current state. Option with up arrow or down arrow will move by paragraph, or so the manual says. However, I find it jumps to the start or end of the current paragraph, and I must press the command again to go to the previous or next paragraph. Also, to anyone using it, can you offer your opinion of the app? Thanks in advance! -Marc -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Polite Request for All List Members
At least here on this list people Top post or Bottom quote which is easier to deal with when you use something like Apple Mail and VoiceOver and let VoiceOver auto read the message to you. But I think it a good idea to clear out the more past parts of message quotes and just keep the most recent or next most recent message portions in the quoting. I have also heard complaints in the past on other lists from people in other countries where they are charged for excessive data transfers so they wish often for smaller messages to be downloaded. Re: Have you contacted a developer with an accessibility issue successfully?
My following observation here applies to a broader thing than just accessibility. I do find that smaller companies or possibly very small or single-person developers are much more responsive to issues brought before them than big companies. My financial institution and Southwest Airlines are two such examples of large scale companies who isolate their software developers so much they are not reachable by any means and their a11y issues have never been resolved despite numerous complaints I made to their customer service area since I couldn't go anywhere else to report them. Also, would love to hear off list about other developers you have contacted for accessibility issues. My email address below. Thanks. Hi Bill, I frequently contact iOS developers, and am impressed by how many of them really want to help. Many developers have no idea blind people are using iPhones and find it fascinating that their app can make a difference to the lives of blind people. One very good example of an app that really got with the program with regard to accessibility is the Bossjock app. I didn't make the initial approach on that one but it transformed into a 100% accessible app. I've also had success with the developers of the official Twitter app, Stuff.co.nz and TVNZ here in New Zealand and quite a few other NZ-based apps. Last year, I was invited to speak at a conference here in New Zealand of iOS developers. I think having them see just what an empowering tool the iPhone is in the hands of a blind person really did, if you'll pardon the expression, open their eyes. I was then contacted by a whole bunch of app developers asking me to check how well their app worked, and it's made a big difference here. I think clear, polite, detailed advocacy goes a long way most of the time. Jonathan On 2/02/2013, at 6:04 AM, Bill Holton bill32...@gmail.com wrote: Hi. I am putting an article together about developers and how to make them more aware of accessibility needs, and I need a few success stories. If You’ve had a good experience with a Mac or iPhone developer, or even a Win developer, who went “above and beyond,” can you let me know the app and any contact info you may have? Thanks.
