Ok guys, I got it working.
Once I copied the VLC.app file to the /Applications folder, everything seems to
be working. I oroginally tried running the app from the /Volumes folder.
The latest version is 2.2.2 from the videoland website.

Re: figured out how to add a title to a photo or vid

2016-03-14 Thread Donna Goodin
Well, that's the beauty of the Mac/IOS system. It'd be nice to be able to do
it right on the phone, but lacking that, at least there's a way to do it on the
Mac.

Oh, and one more thing. To bring up the Window Chooser, it's actually V-F2
twice. I left out that you needed to press it twice in my last message.
Cheers,

figured out how to add a title to a photo or vid

2016-03-14 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi all,

Based on ET's description, it may be that all of you won't have this problem,
but I'm posting just in case. For me, when I tried to get info on the photo,
the info window was hidden. So I had to select it with Window Chooser, CVO-F2.
Once I did that, I saw the same thing he described, the first option is to add
a title. Note that this was in the Photos app on the Mac.
Cheers,
Donna

I tried adding labels to my photos on the iPhone but, unlike the Mac,
there doesn't seem to be a way of doing this. I'm talking labeling the
actual photo, not the Voiceover label for it. Just my observation.

2016-03-14 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
USB is USB so you should be able to swap with a printer cable without
issues. Of course there are different qualities of cables and some have
more problems than others. You might also have a ground loop. Are both
the mixer and the computer powered from the same circuit? Never heard of
noise coming through the USB cable before as it is all digital, so it
sounds like a grounding or power supply problem.

either of my Apple computers, a MacBook Pro mid 2012 or an iMac, 2014. I’ve

between the mixer and the computer and one end is USB while the other is square
like a printer cable and goes into the mixer. I’m curious to see if a standard
printer cable will work but if not, and I don’t blow up everything trying, are
there shields, like Ferrite beads, you can attach to cables to prevent this

Hi there!
I use vlc every day for my radio programs.
It works great on the mac and I recently updated to the latest version.
Not sure why this is happening to you.
You may want to uninstall the application completely and reinstall it again to
see if it solves your problem.

description from within its properties area. I think I use the Title tag.

Now, keep in mind that I do this on a Windows PC but, when I sync the photo
back to my phone, the title/description is usually read, as I land on the photo.

There are some exceptions, however. In my case, I have 4 or so photos that
were taken on my iPhone 3GS. NO matter how I manipulate the tags, VoiceOver
will only read the date that the photo was taken. Again, I'm using a Windows
PC to do this so cannot speak to the mileage you will get on a Mac. I suspect
that tagging the photos in iTunes will be much more successful than by doing so
using an external application as is the case when using Windows.

Good Luck,

Mark

Hi Kate,

ET explained why the labels don't sync. If you do the two-finger double tap,
your just giving it a new VO label, not actually renaming the photo.

Your approach would probably work, but I'm also going to play around with
renaming them in iTunes.

Re: Using Raspberry Pi as media server for Apple TV?

2016-03-14 Thread erik burggraaf
I've never heard of this, one, but there's also one called tonido that was
popular and which I plan to use for my own such server. I don't have an apple
tv and I don't know wheter there is a tonido app for the apple tv, but even if
there is, you may need to update to the latest apple tv to get app support.

RE: Mac Calendar & iCloud

2016-03-14 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Marc,

Were you able to get this problem resolved?

Have you, in fact, stopped using the family sharing feature/calendar to see if
that resolves the issue?

You know, a couple of years ago, I experienced the same problem only it
happened on my iPhone instead of my Mac.

If memory serves, I believe the solution was to actually delete my iCloud
account from my device. When I did this, I was asked if I also wanted to
remove all of the Contacts and Calendar events from my device. I answered in
the affirmative. Then, I restarted my device and signed back into iCloud.
After that, it worked flawlessly.

It's quite possible that the calendar on your Mac is corrupted in some way and,
therefore, deleting it will allow iCloud to rebuild the local copy.

Subject: Mac Calendar & iCloud

Latest version of OS X El Capitan

I tried searching around the archives but don’t think this has been addressed.
The main problem is this: When I create a new event on the Mac, it is not being
pushed to iCloud and subsequently to my iPhone. I create the event on the Mac
and then log into iCloud.com and the event is not there.

On the Mac, I am signed into iCloud. The calendar check box is checked in
system preferences under iCloud and Internet Services. On the Mac, calendar
receives new events from iCloud if I create them on my iPhone. If I create them
on the iPhone, the events also appear on iCloud.com. This tells me that I am
signed into iCloud properly on the iPhone and I believe on the Mac as well
since I can receive the calendar events.

I also noticed that when I create an event in the calendar app on the Mac and
post to my Google calendar, it will not go to the Internet either. When I
create a calendar event on the iPhone and select the Google calendar it will
appear on the Mac and on the online Google calendar.
When a family member creates an event on our shared family calendar it appears
on both the iPhone and the Mac. However, when I create a calendar event on the
Mac and try to select the family calendar, it appears on the Mac only and is
not pushed to the iPhone, the shared family calendar, or the online iCloud.

On the Mac, in the Calendar Sources table, I only have the home, work, and
family calendars that are directly under iCloud. There does not appear to be
any local calendars that are “on my Mac.”
I feel like I have read through a million message boards, signed in and out of
iCloud, toggled on and off calendar in iCloud system preferences, and basically
pulled out all of my hair. I checked my wi-fi connection and it is fine. It
seems like a lot of people have the problem but nobody appears to have a
working solution.
Can anybody shed some light on why events created on my Mac will not appear on
the iPhone or the iCloud web site? Does anybody know about checking ports on
the Mac? Could my ISP somehow be blocking something? I read some posts that
people suggested that the family sharing could be fouling things up. I am way
beyond warranty, so I cannot call Apple.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks

RE: Apple's response re renaming photos

2016-03-14 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Donna,

I only just began following this thread but my experience is that if I want
VoiceOver to announce the name/description of any photo in my Photo Library, I
must first copy the photo to my PC, then, name the photo or give it a
description from within its properties area. I think I use the Title tag.

Now, keep in mind that I do this on a Windows PC but, when I sync the photo
back to my phone, the title/description is usually read, as I land on the
photo.

Cheers,
Donna

Re: Apple's response re renaming photos

2016-03-14 Thread Caitlyn Furness
I guess the other way to do this would be to up/download the photo or video to
your computer one by one, so you know what they are, and then rename them on
the mac.

Also, the custom labels using the double tap with two fingers don’t seem to
synch over devices here. so if I label a pic or vid on my phone, when I put
them on the mac, the labels go away, sadly.

Attn Wordpress.com users: Sudden seeming inaccessibility of support s

2016-03-14 Thread Christine Grassman
This is for anyone who is currently using wordpress.com
. In the past, I have emailed supp...@wordpress.comc
and despite sometimes having to wait for a few
days, I always received direct assistance.

Now, however, I receive an automated response directing me to a “Contact Us”
link where I can “live chat” or send a short email outside the ours live chat
representatives are not available. However, all that happens is I hear
“loading contact form” and nothing else. I have tried reloading, rebooting,
signing out, then in. I cannot find a way to utilize the contact form.

If anyone using a MacBook Air is having the same problem, or has had the
problem and knows what I can do, please let me know.

Better yet,, if anyone knows how to solve the problem I wish to contact
wordpress about, that would be fantastic. :)

I uploaded a picture of myself onto my About Page. The picture was checked; it
is a full-size picture and renders properly when opened in my documents
folder. However, when I uploaded it, only my
hand showed. I asked a sighted person to see if the image could be expanded
via the keyboard, or if there appeared to be controls to manipulate it, but
nothing like that was found.
If anyone has any solutions specifically to this, or suggestions about how to
upload images successfully without sighted assistance, I would very much
appreciate hearing from you. Thanks so much.
Christine

Apple's response re renaming photos

2016-03-14 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi all,

Well, sounds like at this point there isn't a good way to do this. I assume
by custom labels Apple means the two-finger double tap, though if anyone knows
differently please let us all know. Their response is below.
Cheers,
Donna

Thank you for your email. At this time, Custom Labels are the best option for
renaming your photos and videos on iOS. We have passed your feedback along to
the appropriate group.

Sincerely,

Apple Accessibility

Moving mailboxes to Favorites bar

2016-03-14 Thread Jenine Stanley
Thanks to list help I did try the method outlined in the article on AppleVis.
Apparently that doesn’t work any longer but doing a simple drag and drop seems
to work. Here are the steps if you’re like me and can never remember how to
drag and drop.

1. Interact with the mailboxes tab and arrow down to the mailbox you want to
addd to Favorites.

2. Hit VO, (comma) to select it for drag and drop.

3. Stop interacting with Mailboxes and move to the Favorites Bar.

4. Interact with Favorites and move your cursor to the right of where you want
the new mailbox to be.

5. Hit VO. (period) to drop the item. You should hear a clicking sound and the
mailbox will be part of your Favorites list.

The other commands, command-number to go to the number of the mailbox in the
Favorites list and control-number to place something in that list still work.
If I’ve just reversed those commands and actions, apologies. Off to get more
caffeine.

That tutorial was excellent! I was not aware of the shortcut to move a message

Thank you,

Re: could Siri's iPhone voices finally be coming to the Mac?

2016-03-14 Thread Jessica Moss
Ok, are you referring to intellitalk, that I think was a word processor
program, that had extremely normal-sounding speech, but was slow as ever? I
loved that as opposed to prowords, that worked with the echo, and so did one of
my classmates, so it was kind of a battle over it, and the only drawback I
found with it, was you had to have help getting it up and runing, and it always
had to catch up when you typed.
I wasn’t sure though, if it came with the mac, or if you had to purchase it
separately.

The spoken interface actually dated back to the v7 days. When UUNET got
