Hi,

If I'm understanding your question correctly, try using Migration Assistant

Bug with Alex Saying “Arrived”

2016-06-03 Thread Brandon A. Olivares
Anyone notice Alex now has a bug with the word arrived?

It’s only in certain contexts, but arrived sounds more like derived to me.

I think it’s only when you pass the Voiceover cursor over it, and usually not
in the stream of a sentence or paragraph. But still, is this happening to
anyone else?

slightly OT: Disk Utility refusing to erase micro SD card

2016-06-03 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I have a micro SD card that came as part of my Raspberry Pi starter kit. I want
to erase whatever OS they put on here and load straight Raspian, and to do that
I have to format the card. Oddly, though, when I do that, I get "erase process
has failed". I've never seen that happen before, and I'm not sure why it's
doing this. I can read the files on the card just fine, but can't erase it.
I've looked at the card, and while there's a notch, there seems to be no
read/write switch like on full-sized SD cards. Any thoughts on what might be
going on? Thanks.

Re: I thought Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac was suppose to be accessible

2016-06-03 Thread Jeffrey Shockley
Hi,
Glad it works for you. :)
Just FYI, if you go to the Help menu in any of the Office Apps and type
“Accessibility” in the search box, you will get a page telling about all the
Accessibility features in each Office app, and what works and what doesn’t
currently work, if anything, with assistive technology, including VoiceOver, in
this case.
Hope this helps,

Talking bluetooth headset for sale.

2016-06-03 Thread Stacey Robinson
Talking BlueTooth Headset for sale.
LGTonePro
I have been given permission from the moderator to post this on list.
I have a talking BlueTooth headset for sale which I purchased from speeddots a
couple months ago. I am selling it as is.
It comes with usb cable for charging print instructions and extra tips for the
ear pieces.
I have the manual in a digital file.
I find this talking stereo headset just doesn’t meet my needs.
I don’t have the original box but the unit will be packed well before shipping.
I’d like $50 for this headset. I can accept money orders. This price will
include priority shipping within the United States. I cannot ship to other
countries.
If interested please write me off list and we can talk further.

Re: from VHS to Mac

All right, thanks Chris. Cheap and cheerful it is; this iMac has no line-in,
anyway. I want to keep my expenses low, although the more I can get out of it,
the better. I’m also rather space-constrained, so something I can hook up with
minimal cabling is appreciated. Better yet if it supports auto-reverse and I
can slot-load it for speed-recording. This is going to be a fun project.

Cheers for the link.

Widgets are still accessible, if you want them. System Preferences, Mission
Control, and then assign a key to Dashboard.

I think it’s pretty clear Apple are going to deprecate them, sooner or later.
Notification Centre is now the way to get these little bits of info. I’m not
much of a fan of the Today view myself, but it works.

Re: Apple Music protected files question

2016-06-03 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Weird, I can’t imagine iTunes objecting to iTunes media files for any reason.

What happens if you try adding them to your library from the iTunes File menu?
Point to them, and see what it says.

Then there’s the fact it’s DRM, of course. Maybe you aren’t authorised to play
them any more. Maybe the files were never meant to be moved between computers
or file systems. There may well be some other reason.

iTunes 12.4.1 released with voiceover fixes

2016-06-03 Thread Scott Granados
Hi, running the update process this morning I was alerted to an iTunes update
12.4.1 where the first thing mentioned in the improvements list is improvements
to voiceover accessibility. I’ve updated and so far so good. Not noticing
much different yet but maybe other more power users will. Update them if you
got em.

Thanks
Scott

Hi Yes you can,

It’s a case of starting up on to the recovery partition using the Command and r
keys, then select the disk utility option from the menus and then eraise the
macintosh hd drive, don’t partition, just eraise the installed drive and then
once that is done close disk utility and run the reinstall OS X option.

Hope that helps.

I'd first grab Malware Bytes, which is free and not, to my knowledge, on the

I'd then either manually copy the important things, or do a Time Machine backup
then manually restore once the OS is re-installed.

Installing the OS isn't bad, actually. There are tons of guides on putting
10.10 or 10.11 (same process) on a thumb drive; from there, you'll boot into
the thumb drive (so try to find a fast one), use its Disk utility to wipe your
internal drive, then choose to install OS X on the thumb drive's version of the
OS. It sound complicated, but it's really not once you do it once. Just be very
sure to do all the backing up first.

Finally, it could be that, well, it's a 2011 MacBook. It may just be old and
slow. My mom has a 2012, and I replaced the hard drive with an SSD this year,
plus doubled the ram to 8GB. It flies now! You might consider an upgrade like
that, unless your dad wants to wait for the release rumored to be coming later
this year when he can replace the machine with a new, or last-generation, model.

Any ideas?
