Re: my impressions with sierra so far
Hey Mike. It sounds like all Apple voices have this issue. The funny thing is when I'm using either the Nuance or Acapela voices, this issue doesn't happen. As for people saying that Apple is lacking in quality, everybody has their own opinions and I don't agree with everything people say about the subject. But keep in mind that you are using Sierra on a 2010 model. Not everything will work as flawlessly as we want them to. I think Sierra will probably be the last OS that 2010 models will be supported as the demand for processor power is getting higher and higher every year. And now that the new Macs are out, a lot of features in 10.13 will probably cator to those models. External drives and Time Machine
I have a few more questions on Time Machine back ups and external hard drives. In researching for a new external drive, I’m learning that I’ve been rather lucky that my Seagate has not failed on me. Apparently, Seagate and WD drives failures are pretty common. Any recommendations? Onto Time Machine… Is there a way to copy individual TM back ups? Say I chose a few from each year, could I copy and paste those onto a USB stick? For separate safe keeping? How about deleting older back ups to make space? I’ve entered Time Machine, but cannot figure out how to select then delete old backups. Thanks, Traci -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. I think it would be much harder with objects as we often want a face to be centered but there could be more than 1 object to recognize in a photo. In the Photos app in both iOS 10 and Sierra, over 4000 objects can be recognized. For example, you could enter snow in the search field, and Photos will try to find all the pics in your Photos Library with snow in the picture. You can even use Siri to find things by asking her things like, "Could you find all my photos with a dog in the picture?" It will then put the results into a collection for you so you can check them out. This moves beyond just the people and places search ability, so is becoming very interesting from a VO user's prospective. I've only played with it a little, and only on my Mac, since my iPhone is half-way across the country being repaired. It found the pictures quite well, but I couldn't really confirm what was in the actual picture results since I couldn't figure out if there was a way to get descriptions and such. Ok, tried switching to Fred, issue still happens, regardless of whether speakers are connected or whether the voice over utility is set to the default sound device or set to the built in output. Looks like I may be restoring my el capitan backup. was going to upgrade my macbook but maybe I will skip that for now, I would consider that a major bug, and I'm surprised it's still in 10.12.2, I'm starting to understand why people are saying Apple's software quality is not what it used to be, I would have to agree. > On Dec 23, 2016, at 2:51 PM, Mike Arrigowrote: > > Yes, that is the voice I'm using. my impressions with sierra so far
Hey everyone, so, I decided to upgrade to sierra starting with my 2010 mac mini, also just upgraded the memory to 4 GB. I must say, so far I have had a few major problems. First, the recovery disk assistant does not seem to work with sierra to allow you to clone the recovery partition to an external USB drive. I was able to do this manually using terminal, but the task is now definitely more time consuming. I did get this done and my recovery usb drive now works. A more serious issue relates to voiceover, I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Several times, for no apparent reason, voiceover just quits speaking. It's hard to tell when it will happen, I have not found any pattern to consistently reproduce it, but when it happens, I have to completely reboot to get speech back. The audio itself is not muting, error sounds still play, and pressing command+F5 to reenable it does not work either. I've actually tried unplugging my speakers from the mac mini, and am using the internal speaker, and so far it is working, though I would rather not use this as my solution, just trying to do some process of elimination. Has anyone else experienced this with sierra, and if so, have you found any way around it. This was never an issue with previous operating systems. -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. Re: Anyone successfully triple booting?
Why didn’t he have a reserve? You have to have a reserve in case that happens. I know jumping in the 70S and earlier wasn’t as easy as it is now. The chutes were round then and you couldn’t steer them very easily. I have a friend who jumped with a round chute up in Massachusetts and ended up in Connecticut over 30 miles away because of the wind currents and inability to steer. The jump instructor made sure every one had enough change for the pay phone before they jumped for this very reason. I think they still had reserves though back then. Even today you have a device that’s set with barometric pressure that will deploy your chute if you black out or don’t pull automatically. As in all things though, there is risk. I definitely tend towards the risky. > On Dec 23, 2016, at 7:36 AM, 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries >wrote: > > I know many many have done this successfully. Re: Anyone successfully triple booting?
I know many many have done this successfully. However, I'm always saddened when the topic comes up. Back in the early 1970's I had a friend whose chute didn't open on his very first jump. His girlfriend was on the ground filming. He did his best and managed to end up in a tree, but it wasn't enough. Janina Scott Granados writes: > Actually, Kawal, you’l get a fair bit of training.
