Contacts in Sierra

2017-01-29 Thread E.T.
I may not have looked at Contacts since installing Sierra so not
sure when things went south.

I found duplicates so used the look for duplicates function. In the
On My Mac section, all the groups are doubled.

So before I do any more on the Mac, I will look at the contacts on
my iPhone. If that looks good, I want to know if I can safely disable
syncing of contacts on the Mac and wipe them then enable syncing again.
Would that work? Thanks.

Okay. There’s an easy fix for this. I assume from your message you’re using
Voice Over?

You need to do the following.

1. Go in to the preferences window using Command+Comma.

2. From there, you need to choose the advanced tab and press VO+space on it.

3. Now, You wil notice a table of options. The option you want is the eighth
one down which says “use generic controls”. by default, this will not be
checked.
4. Check this box.

Having done that, you can now access all the controles for the filter

Amadeus Pro: Working with Audio Unit Effects

2017-01-29 Thread Brandon A. Olivares
Hi everyone,

I love Amadeus Pro so far. Just started using it a few weeks ago.

However, is there a way to accessibly apply audio unit effects? I'm trying to
apply a high pass filter, but can't see a way to configure the settings. I just
see a dropdown with presets, of which there are none, a button to load presets,
a preview button, a bypass checkbox, then cancel and apply. The defaults seem
to be way too much because it makes the sound muffled.

Thanks,
Brandon

RE: Naming Your Personal Digital Assistant

2017-01-29 Thread M. Taylor
Big Smile.

To All,

By the way, if you'd like to participate in this discussion on Twitter, compose
a tweet that includes the hash tag NameMyAI.

For example one might tweet, (without the quotation marks), "I would #NameMyAI
Bubba."
Include the @AppleSupport handle in your tweet and, who knows, perhaps Apple
will take your suggestion.

Re: Syncing tones

2017-01-29 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Really, other than the limits on length, there's no difference between a Text
tone and a Ring tone. I can go in to set my default Text tone and see all my
Ring tones that are less than 30 seconds. Sometimes, you'll need to expand an
item to see tones that fit within a specific category. So, for example, if I
go into Settings, Sound then swipe to the Text tone item, double-tap it to open
it, I will see a list of default Text tones. If I swipe through those, there's
an item named Classic that I can double-tap on to see other Text tones that
were originally present in earlier versions of iOS. If I swipe past the
Classic item, I have an heading named Ring tones which have the ones I've
imported/made myself followed by the built in ones that Apple supplied. I do
notice though that I'm missing a few tones that are over 30 seconds long in
this list. Other than those though, all are automatically displayed.Does
the one you wish to use show up if you try to select it in the Ring tone
portion of Sounds as opposed to the Text tone portion of Sounds?

The fastest way that I've found is to be in Safari, go up to the menu bar to
Bookmarks, then select Edit Bookmarks from the menu items. There will now be a
table with Favourites, Bookmarks Menu and any other Bookmark folders that may
exist. Just expand the Favourites, or other folder you wish to manipulate then
navigate to any Bookmarks or embedded folders within and use cmd-x to Cut and
cmd-v to Paste Bookmarks wherever you want them to go.

Note the following, when you are inside an expanded folder and paste, the
Bookmark will be pasted inside that expanded folder. When navigating up
through the table, if you stop at a specific place, when you press cmd-v to
paste, the item will be pasted above where you stopped. When navigating down,
pasting will place the item below where you stopped. When you're done, just,
close the window then press cmd-l to enter an address and you should be good to
go.

Hope this makes sense.

Later...

Haha. Last week I tried using “computer” as the wake word for the Amazon Echo.
I quickly discovered that I didn’t like it because, when one has to yell
“computer" over a noisy household, the “p” in computer lends itself to spittle.
Yuck! I switched the wake word back to Alexa.

Re: Editing an iTunes Playlist

2017-01-29 Thread Tim Kilburn
hi,

Two things to mention here. First, the File tab is not an editable tab. That
is, the File tab simply tells you the location of the file and some details
regarding its file type for informational purposes. the Details tab is where
tags can be modified. If you don't care to go through all 1100 songs
individually, there is a method by which iTunes will attempt to find all the
invalid location songs. To do so:

1. Open iTunes.
2. Press cmd-comma to open iTunes Press.
3. Interact with the Toolbar and select the Advanced tab.
4. Uncheck both "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes
when importing".
5. Press OK and quit iTunes.
6. Re-open iTunes and locate one of your "invalid location" songs and try to
play it.

iTunes should ask if you want to try to find this song. Answer "yes" and
locate it. Once you locate that one, iTunes should ask if you would like it to
see if it can find any other invalid location songs for you. Let iTunes do
this and it should do a reasonable job finding most of the songs that have an
invalid location. If it doesn't find them all, quit iTunes and re-open it, and
it will usually start the process again and find the remaining ones. At least
it should drastically reduce the number of invalid location songs so you don't
need to go through your entire iTunes Library.

Once they've been located, go back into iTunes Prefs and re-check the boxes
that you unchecked earlier.

Note, it is important not to manually mess with the locations of iTunes media
within the Finder. If you wish to have something in a different location,
change it from within iTunes Prefs in the Details pane. FYI, iTunes uses the
Artist, Album and Song title when organizing itself, so if you wish something
to be relocated, then modify the information in those fields. Also, if the
"Part of a Compilation" item is checked, things usually are placed in the
Compilations folder then subsequently organized by Artist etc.

HTH.

Re: Editing an iTunes Playlist

2017-01-29 Thread Angus MacKinnon
John

When I do a CMD I on a song in the Library list of songs, I get gthe artistt,
album, song and a list of tabs. The Tabs are Details, Art work, Lyrics,
soorting and File. File only allows me to read and not edit. Ihave started to
go through the list one song at a time. And trying to play and then locate the
song that is labeled ‘invalid location’. It will take me some time since I
have over 1100 songs to go through.

Re: Naming Your Personal Digital Assistant

2017-01-29 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I did see a thread on using Apple Dictation to do things with Siri. I don't
remember the exact spoken feedback, but they suggested changing the default
"Computer" word as dictations' key phrase and changing it to Hey Siri.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Chris, is that across the Echo line of products?

However, as I began to think about it, I decided that perhaps, just perhaps,

So, I came up with three names that I would like to use for my AI or

Runner-up: Bobby.

organizing safari bookmarks

2017-01-29 Thread Caitlyn Furness
I would like to know if there’s an accessable way to organize my safari
bookmarks. I have a whole slew of them, but was lazy and just dumped all of
them into favourites. Now, I want to make folders and sort the bookmarks
accordingly. Everything I’ve read says to drag and drop, which never works.

any hints?

Thanks!
Caitlyn

looking for an app that will take a " pdf manual" and convert it to some kind of an audio book

2017-01-29 Thread CHUCK REICHEL
Hi List,
Is there an app that will take a "properly formatted" pdf and convert it to
some kind of an audio book where I can then drop in book marks for fast
locating of parts of the manual that I need to concentrate on?
I got audio book builder yesterday and imported an mp4 audio chapter that I
converted by using "ad to itunes as a spoken track" but after reading most of
the audio book builder manual I am not sure what to do with the track it made?
I'm guessing it needs to be imported in to itunes but not sure?)
Thanks for any solutions?

Thanks
Chuck

Re: Syncing tones

2017-01-29 Thread Stacey Robinson
Thanks Tim,
Both are under 30 seconds.
Each is about six seconds.
Is there a way I can tell my phone to see one of them as a text tone?

Peace,

Re: Syncing tones

2017-01-29 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

On your Mac, in iTunes, locate your Tones, cmd-8 will bring focus to them.
Interact with the table of Ring Tones, and find the Ring Tone you are
interested in, and the time should be in the column just to the right of the
title. I did check on some of my Ring tones, that were over 30 seconds, and
they did not appear as available to me in the Text Tone section area.

Re: Naming Your Personal Digital Assistant

2017-01-29 Thread Jenine Stanley
I love this thread! I use the male British voice for my Siri and call him
Oliver, though he does sound eerily like a former coworker named Sebastian.

Here are my 3 new names though in no particular order.

Data
AI
and of course, Computer

No stupid (deleted expletive) is not one of mine, not yet anyway.

My top choice would be Data. I think I’d follow that with computer. If I
couldn’t use those I’d just want to say Hello cancel my appointment or
set my alarm.

Hello Everyone,

As some of you know, there are plans in the works to allow some popular
digital assistants to respond to custom named prompts.

While, as far as I know anyway, Apple as not yet disclosed plans to allow
for this, it is my hope that someday, they will.

So, I was just thinking about what name I would like to use for Siri, were I
given the option. Hence, the subject of this thread.

Of course, being a lifelong Star Trek fan, my first inclination would be to
set my trigger word to "Computer"; as in, "Computer, cancel my appointment
with Oprah for tomorrow." (smile)

However, as I began to think about it, I decided that perhaps, just perhaps,
the word "Computer", may not be the best choice, in the long run.

So, I came up with three names that I would like to use for my AI or
personal digital assistant with one runner-up. They are:

1.
Christine.

2.
Maggie,.

3.
Cecil.

Runner-up: Bobby.

(Big Smile)

Okay, it's your turn, please reply with your 3 top choices for your AI, were
you given the option.

I look forward to reading all your replies,

Mark
