Re: just a suggestion, Selecting on Iphone

2017-03-21 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
Hi Ramy. You can select text by including text selection in the rotor. You have
to go into general / accessibility / voiceover / rotor. Make sure you double
tap on it to check/select it. Once you rotor to text selection, swiping up or
down goes through the selection types i.e character, word, line, heading and
select all. Then double tap once you chosen which element to select by. The
only slightly tricky thing is if you need to select from a certain point in the
text. You have to navigate to that point using move by character, word or line.
Then you have to turn the rotor to text selection and swipe up or down to the
type of selection required as stated above. Hope this helps
Cheers
Thuy

 Hi,

There are multiple methods for copying from a web page.

 1. VO-shift-c as mentioned by Andrew. Whereby you have VO read a block
 of
text, press VO-shift-c to copy the last phrase uttered by VO to the
clipboard. You can then paste it wherever you wish.

 2. Hold down the shift key then arrow through what you wish selected,
 then
 press cmd-c to copy.

 3. Navigate to the beginning of the section you wish selected, mark it
 with
VO-return, navigate right through to the end of what you wish to
 select,
press VO-return again to mark the end of the section, then press cmd-c
 to
 copy.

 4. Press cmd-a to select everything on the web page, open a TextEdit
document and put it into Plain Text by pressing cmd-shift-t, then press
cmd-v to paste the text into the document. You can then copy out what
 you
 need from this text.

Note that in most cases, you need to Interact with the web content area,
 and
QuickNav needs to be turned off. Different web pages and/or web
 content
areas work better with different methods listed above. Just try one, if
 it
doesn't work, try one of the other methods.

A similar effect can be had by doing a "paste without formatting" which
is command-option-shift-V. This is also handy when you're pasting text
from different places into a document and you don't want all the font
and other formatting to come along, which usually means your pasted text
will inherit the formatting of wherever it is you are pasting it.

Re: Selecting a text On Safari

2017-03-21 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Just a note on method 2. Generally when I have found this does not work is
when the website has its own definition for the arrow keys defined. You can
override this in VoiceOver Utility under the web area. Always allow
keyboard commands to navigate websites unchecked
If you check this box, then you can read web pages with just plain arrow
keys and select with shift arrow keys.

The problem is that with web pages that have javascript enabled menus or
tree views those sections of the web page will not behave as expected.

Best Wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Selecting a text On Safari

2017-03-21 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

There are multiple methods for copying from a web page.

1. VO-shift-c as mentioned by Andrew. Whereby you have VO read a block of
text, press VO-shift-c to copy the last phrase uttered by VO to the clipboard.
You can then paste it wherever you wish.

2. Hold down the shift key then arrow through what you wish selected, then
press cmd-c to copy.

3. Navigate to the beginning of the section you wish selected, mark it with
VO-return, navigate right through to the end of what you wish to select, press
VO-return again to mark the end of the section, then press cmd-c to copy.

4. Press cmd-a to select everything on the web page, open a TextEdit document
and put it into Plain Text by pressing cmd-shift-t, then press cmd-v to paste
the text into the document. You can then copy out what you need from this text.

Note that in most cases, you need to Interact with the web content area, and
QuickNav needs to be turned off. Different web pages and/or web content areas
work better with different methods listed above. Just try one, if it doesn't
work, try one of the other methods.

just a suggestion, Selecting on Iphone

2017-03-21 Thread Ramy Moustafa
Hello all:

After releasing the Ios v10, Selecting all text in an email or
something became very hard, I must make many many trials to succeed.
so am I the only one that has this,?
all I need is to select the hole text in the email.

my suggestion is as follows:
why apple can not try to give us a place to put a start and end mark
for selecting instead of using 2 fingers etc which is not easy?
we can just put a starting mark, and move by word or lines, then put
an end mark.

Need to know your opinions.
Thanks

Re: Selecting a text On Safari

2017-03-21 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Ramy,

Selecting text on a webpage has always been a bit of a problem, especially if
you need to select and copy just a small portion of the text. The way I do it
is as follows: once you find and hear the text you are interested in, you can
invoke Voiceover command vo+shift+c which copies the last phrase or portion of
text that voiceover has just spoken. Once you press the key combination you
can then paste it into another application. Bear in mind that you may have to
edit the pasted text since what's copied to the clipboard is the last spoken
piece of text which may be longer than the bit you require. You can then go
back to Safari and copy another chunk of the text, using the same key
combination. This is not ideal but at least it's doable. Just remember that
Voiceover will copy absolutely everything that it has said. So for instance,
if the portion of the text includes a link or image or clickable text, and
Voiceover says this, the word "link", "image', "clickable" will also be copied
as part of the text. that's why you need to check and edit what has been
pasted. If you need to copy the entire content, there are other methods but I
won't describe them now as they are more complex. You might find more
information on the subject of copying text from a webpage in macvisionaries
group archive as this topic regularly comes up and others have tried different
solutions.

Hope this will help a little.
