Re: Apple Accessibility is great.

Interesting considering that they have some blind people working in the
position. If it is not accessible, they have accessible work-arounds in place.

Re: Apple phone support:

Apple has their At Home service team. The At Home Support workers work from
their homes. This is all of Apple's phone support, whether general or
accessibility. The calls are all managed on VOIP, and the support person is
using a specially set up iMac Pro. Apple currently has a few blind people
working in this position.

I went through the first interview for this position in Australia, but found a
beter position, in my chosen field, so removed myself from Apple's hiring cycle.

Re: And here's an example of why Apple is losing the digital assistant game

2017-04-26 Thread David Chittenden
I agree with Scott for the most part. The only problem with Amazon, from the
Aus / NZ perspective, is that Amazon does not support these markets. So, to use
Amazon video, it is necessary to use VPN set to the USA. As for NetFlix, I
consistently find that NetFlix has the best programming (shows) in Aus (when
comparing Aus, NZ, and US). We like the FireStick better than the Apple TV.
Then again, we are mainly using Codi to watch shows which are otherwise
unavailable anywhere else (mainly programming from the 70's to the early
2000's). It is rather fun watching shows I grew up on.

We also enjoy the occasional movie that is still in the cinima.

Apple TV does not allow Codi.

We prefer the FireStick because as a large USB stick, we plug it into one of
the USB ports on the TV for power, whilst connecting it to the HDMI port. When
we turn off the TV, the FireStick is automatically shut down.

 Hi.

Before any of you slag Apple off, just listen to my story then you can
 slagg Apple to high heaven!

Today I found an e-mail which said that my Apple Storage plan was under
threat. So I got really worried because recently I had a lot of e-mails
which were all phishing e-mails and wanted to make sure this was not
 another one.

So I called the normal number which I normally called and after talking
to an apple advisor, he put me through to Apple accessibility who really
helped with everything. I'll tell you, he was great. He also said that
the department was open 24 7 and he gave me the UK Accessibility phone
number which I paste below for those who live in the UK.

 The number is:

 0800 048 0754.

Please give this number to your friends who use Apple.

I cannot praise the person on the other end highly enough as he solved
my problems in about 5 minutes. However we chatted for at least 20
minutes. He was so imporessed with my voice over skills as he said he
spoke to a lot of people who had lost their vision or who had come to
use voice over after switching from jaws.

So now who ever wants to, can slag Apple off to their heart's content!
 I won't this evening.

 Kawal.

I'd like to know if NZ has an apple accessibility number,

Most of the time we get people that don't know what day it is rather than what
they are using.

I don’t think that’s slagging Apple. For example, if I didn’t care I would
have just switched to the other guys. I actually forwarded my concerns as Ray
mentioned and also raised concerns about issues I had with Google to them
directly as well. (I have better connections at Google) I care so I raise the
concerns with the hopes things will improve.

Hi.

I wish to know if all our e-mail addresses on this list is secure please? The
reason for asking is because I've had lots of Phishing e-mails from a
supposeded Apple e-mail address. I am only on three e-mail lists and all
blindness related. The other reason for asking is that all the e-mails have my
name on it. I don't do much on the internet but I do know that all the
Macvisionary list e-mails appear on the internet as you can search for these
e-mails. So please Mods get back to us and assure us that our e-mail addresses
are safe. I can only safe over the last few weeks I have had too many
suspicious e-mails all concerning Apple. I know one person on this list who
can do this sort of thing and they will be nameless. I will only say, the
person is brilliant at defrauding women on this list (as I was one of them) as
he is a member of this list. No more said.

Thanks.

Kawal.

RE: And here's an example of why Apple is losing the digital assistant game

2017-04-26 Thread Simon Fogarty
Yeah the only reason I have a 4k tv is due to the screan reader in the Samsung
model I have.

The models after mine had the screan reader disabled for NZ but yet not in USA
UK Aus and a couple of other places.
 Go figure.

You’re starting to see a lot of 4K here. Televisions are getting down right
affordable and why not buy 4K if it doesn’t break your bank. In my case as
mentioned as well I have a lot of 4K cameras and creat content in 4K. I’m just
trying to imagine if everyone in NZ and AU started streaming 4K. That might be
a bandwidth issue.;)

 Hi Scott,
I don't see the use case for a blind person with a Fire TV versus the
stick. I have a stick, the newer generation. It seems quite responsive.
Admittedly, I don't have the Fire TV to compare it with. But I just don't
see the point, unless money is no object and you don't mind spending more.
Also, it's worth noting with respect to the stick and the AppleTV, that
the problem both devices have is with third-party apps not being
accessible. There are still bunches of those that are not accessible with
a stick, just as there are on the Apple TV apps that are not accessible.
When Apple change the format and went to apps, it seems to me they lost
control over their excess ability. So now it's up to the app developers,
and many of them screw up.

Kawal, it’s bots indexing your messages which are being scraped off google and
other various sites. There are some protections in place but many don’t work
that well. Part of the territory unfortunately. I’d like to see draw and
quartering be brought back for spammers but that’s me.;)

Re: Apple Accessibility is great.

2017-04-26 Thread Scott Granados
I don’t think that’s slagging Apple. For example, if I didn’t care I would
have just switched to the other guys. I actually forwarded my concerns as Ray
mentioned and also raised concerns about issues I had with Google to them
directly as well. (I have better connections at Google) I care so I raise the
concerns with the hopes things will improve.

Re: Apple Accessibility is great.

2017-04-26 Thread Scott Granados
I’ve had mixed support from Apple but consistently good responses from
accessibility. I also had similar experiences in fact I think I may have
gotten a blind support engineer at one point. I had folks on the regular
support line generally not know as much as I do when it comes to the products
but Accessibility support has always been good. They have also been quick to
answer my questions when new products come out like how to start VO on the new
model with fingerprint censor etc.

I won’t bash accessibility help either, so far so good. Regular support has
been about 50 / 50
