2017-11-21 Thread Simon Fogarty
Two options,
You could either partition it through windows diskpart or disk manager,

Divide it in 2 1tb partitions and format one for either fat32 or x fat which
will both work in mac os.

Or under disk utilities of your mac partition once at 50% either side,
And format them using eraise again either as fat 32 or xfat so both os can
read / write to them.

Hi all,

I am writing this message using a Refreshabraille braille display, running the
latest version of iOS on an iPhone X.

First, the braille display commands are not as limited as they first appear. Go
to settings, general, accessibility, voiceover, braille, find the display, and
activate the More Info button. In addition to forget this device, there is now
a Braille Commands option. This option is excellent. It lists all possible
braille display commands, organised into categories. Opening a category reveals
the commands in it. Opening a command shows the command, if it exists, and the
option to change or add a braille display button combination.

Writing and reading in contracted braille works well now. I am not experiencing
any delays thus far.

That said, there is still a problem. When inserting text, speech keeps speaking
the word after the text I just wrote rather than the word I just wrote.

Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to figure out how to go through the
misspelled words selection to select a replacement word.

Over all, I am impressed with how the braille display is working, especially
for writing in contracted braille. That said, Apple has figured out how to edit
text in contracted braille. Again, I am quite impressed.

Kind regards,

So what is the braille output like in terms of formatting? If you have
formatted document and say text edit, is your Brill document format it
accurately? I had the impression that there wasn’t a lot of stuff you could do

Re: Another I phone ten user as of tomorrow!

2017-11-21 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Already listened to Jonathan's excellent podcast.

What I'm interested in is that you can turn the attention feature on and still
get your I phone 10 up and running even though you have no eyes. Did you turn
the attention feature on afterwards when you did your Face ID scan? I do have
eyes but they don't look at anything as I have light and dark perception only.

Re: Index embosser version five used with an iPhone?

2017-11-21 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hi Mary.

I do have an Index V5 Braille embosser as I bought it earlier this year.

I have installed the Direct Braille program on to my Mac and it is going well
in that I can print from Text Edit or e-mails or my notes icon.

This embosser has a wifi in it so I have put the wifi address in to my print
cue and can now print from my Mac.

This embosser is supposed to have bluetooth in it and am waiting for my
distributor to get in touch with the manufadturer to ask how to get the
bluetooth element working. However, I am not sure if this will be able to work
with my I phone if I do get the bluetooth working with my I phone.

Hope this helps.

Kawal.

Index embosser version five used with an iPhone?

2017-11-21 Thread Mary Otten
I think there are a few people on hthese lists who have the newest index
embosser, that is version five, either an Everest or a basic D. The big new
thing with this iteration of the index embosser is supposed to be the fact that
they have included direct braille in the machine, which means you don’t need a
third-party translation software. And you are supposed to be able, therefore,
to print from a wireless device, such as an iPhone. I’m just wondering how well
this works in practice. Is the translation software decent? I wouldn’t expect
it to be as full featured as something like Duxberry, which cost 500 or $600.
But if you don’t need to do complicated things like tables, I would hope that
the included translator would be good enough. Comments?
Mary

Re: Keeping things out of junk mail

2017-11-21 Thread Jonathan Cohn
While that command will work, I believe Stacy was asking to turn off
auto-spam flagging. This can be a little difficult since usually both the
computer and the mail provider will do junk/spam filtering. I believe if
one is using GMAIl then there is no way to turn off their spam filters.

There are option in the Apple mail preferences though, the third button in
the toolbar has controls to adjust Mail's junk mail actions.

Best Wishes,

Jonathan

Re: Keeping things out of junk mail

2017-11-21 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi,

The shortcut key combination for marking an email as spam is command+shift+j.
I seem to remember from the time when I still used El Capitan that the same key
combination works to mark an email as not spam. Try to highlight the emails in
your Junk mail folder and then press the key combination above to see if you
can change the spam to not spam.

An issue with mail attachments in High Sierra.

2017-11-21 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hi Folks:

In the past, when one inserted an attachment in an email, the name of the
attachment would be in the body of that email. In High Sierra, however,
Voiceover reports the words "attached Image" and not the name of the
attachment.

Is there a way around this?

Thanks all over the place.
