Mail composing issue

2018-01-12 Thread Eric Caron

Hi listers,

When composing emails I have a strange problem when trying to edit a
message.

When I go back into a message to change something I can’t hear the
change. It is like nothing happened. Then when I turn off voice over and turn
it on again, my changes can be heard. This makes using mail very difficult on
my mac.

Anyone else having this problem? Any tips on what I can do to fix it?

Thanks.

Dictation and accessability

2018-01-12 Thread Eric Caron
Hi listers,

I made some progress with the dictation feature that allows you to say
a word like “computer” and then give commands like open mail, or go to
beginning. Now, I can’t seem to get it to work any longer. I checked the
settings I could find and the ones I used to start it and nothing seems to
happen.

to start using it I went to accessibility in system preferences and in
the table found dictation and checked the box to listen for the key word.

If there is a way I may have accidentally stop it from working I’d be
glad for a tip on what I can do to get it up again. I was rather enjoying it.

I’ve tried unchecking and checking the check boxes in the dictation area. I
looked in sounds and it is set to automatic. I changed it to internal mic and
that made no difference.

I know it is a long shot but I’d thought I’d ask to see if this may have
happened to someone else and they have a suggestion.

Best,

Eric Caron

USB tv tuners

2018-01-12 Thread jeff `greene
Hi, I know this subject isn't as popular as it use to be, but here
goes... I've hooked up a Mac Mini to my tv and surround system. I'm
playing ITunes and Netflix on it. I see lots of these USB tv tuners
from Elgato and others and was wondering if any of them are accessible
with VO?
Thanks Jeff

Re: VMware Fusion 10.1.1 and BootCamp

2018-01-12 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi Janina!
Yeah typically i also have a tight budget this month.
I had to pay 150 bucks for repairing the display of my moto g5 and i think i
was stupid leaving it for repair as i have a nokia 8 now too.
Therefore i can’t buy the upgrade for vmware fusion.
Very frustrating.

Hi,

Some of you may be aware of these, but I thought that I'd share anyway. My wife sent me a "Happy New
Year" iMessage on Jan 1, what a surprise eh? When she sent it, all of a sudden she said that there were
fireworks exploding on the screen. When I received the iMessage, VO announced that I had fireworks exploding
across my screen as well. This got me interested so I did a bit of research. An iMessage of "Happy New
Year" or "Happy Birthday" will automatically add an effect of either the fireworks or balloons
which VO will announce. This is quite an amazing thing in my opinion. Too many times, these sorts of visual
effects are not useful to us VO users.

There are even more effects than the two previously mentioned, and they are
totally accessible to VO users. Note that these are only available when
sending/receiving iMessages, regular SMS Text messages don't have this feature.
Also, note that this works best on iPhones with 3D Touch, which are the 6S and
newer models. You may be able to make it work on an older non-3D Touch device,
but it may take more fiddling. To send an iMessage with an effect from your
iDevice, do the following:

1. Open the Messages app on your iDevice.
2. Compose a message to someone else who has an iPhone.
3. Locate the "Send" button and 3D-press on it. You will probably need to
move your finger around until it is announced so that the 3D-Touch will properly work.
4. Swipe right until you hear "Screen" and double-tap on it.
5. Swipe right to the end and you'll hear something about "Echo Effect".
Swipe up/down on this picker to choose from nine different effects.
6. After you have the effect you desire, swipe left until you hear the "Send with
such and such effect" button. Double-tap on it.

The message will be sent with the chosen effect and VO should announce it to
you. If the recipient is sighted, they will see the effect when they open the
iMessage. If it is a VO user, VO will announce a description of the screen
effect.

Enjoy.

Later...

Hello Simon,

I would wager that these apps are primarily visual-based.

Such is the nature of things, or so it would seem.

How I do so wish things were different.

Two of my favorite iOS games are Tetris and 3D bowling. These two games
require some vision. Many is the time when I have wished that I could share
these games with all of you, my totally blind brothers and sisters.

Perhaps, some day, it will be possible.

Sorry for the soliloquy but these thoughts do cross my mind, often.

I am posting the article because it is iOS-related and there may be those among

Best adult apps for iPhone
By Jen Karner

You might not know it but there are plenty of adult apps available on the iOS
store.
When it comes to adult content on mobile devices, there are a variety of apps
that you can find to enjoy. From apps that help you to try and improve your sex
life, to those that help explain exactly what all those crazy sex toys do,
there are plenty of awesome apps filled up with adult content.
While the App Store isn't overflowing with adult content, there are a fair few
apps you can find, so long as you know what you are looking for.

iKamaSutra
The Kama Sutra is well known for it's catalog of sexual positions, but you
don't need to worry about anyone stumbling on this book in your library.
Instead, you can download the app and get access to everything you're looking
for. iKamaSutra. This app includes all of the positions found within the Kama
Sutra with some extra options for you.
You can choose to look for potiions based on intimacy, complexity, and
strength, using slider scales to find positions that you are capable of
completing. There are positions from movie scenes, 9 categories for you to
peruse through, and easy to read instructions for each position. The basic app
comes with 110 positions, but with in-app purchases you can increase this to
over 230 positions. You can even shake your phone to pick a random position,
save your favorites, there are even suggestions for sweet and sexy date ideas
in there.

Pinup Poker
Not every app on our list is explicit, even though it's definitely got adults
in mind. That's where Pinup Poker comes in. You get to play Poker with a decent
engine, all the while getting a eyeful of cards that have been decorated with
pinup models. There aren't really any bells or whistles to this app, which is
why it's available for the low, low, price of free. This app is a great
addition for anybody who enjoys poker, but wants to add some animated eye candy
to the game.

Playboy has long been a staple when it comes to adult oriented entertainment.
Their app delivers you tons of content that you would have found in the

view galleries of classic cartoons from the earlier days of the magazine. There
is roughly a ton of content crammed into this app for you to view and explore.

Just to be clear this folder needs to be in the route of the USB stick? Using

do it blindly. Seeing AI read that an installation was successful but the Air

and Narrator in the Windows 10 installation on my Airbook. Strange as
this will sound, I'm actually getting the best info by running NVDA and
Narrator simultaneously! Wierd, but effective for the moment.

Here's the latest iteration of the problem ...

I can launch the Setup.exe in the BootCamp folder on my USB stick.
However, it immediately errors out complaining of a missing folder whose
exact name I couldn't quite catch. I haven't gone back to the Narrator
docs to learn how to get character by character screen review--that's
next.

The missing folder is something like:

Screen Effects

2018-01-12 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Some of you may be aware of these, but I thought that I'd share anyway. My
wife sent me a "Happy New Year" iMessage on Jan 1, what a surprise eh? When
she sent it, all of a sudden she said that there were fireworks exploding on
the screen. When I received the iMessage, VO announced that I had fireworks
exploding across my screen as well. This got me interested so I did a bit of
research. An iMessage of "Happy New Year" or "Happy Birthday" will
automatically add an effect of either the fireworks or balloons which VO will
announce. This is quite an amazing thing in my opinion. Too many times, these
sorts of visual effects are not useful to us VO users.

You will probably need to
move your finger around until it is announced so that the 3D-Touch will
properly work.
4. Swipe right until you hear "Screen" and double-tap on it.
5. Swipe right to the end and you'll hear something about "Echo Effect".
Swipe up/down on this picker to choose from nine different effects.
6. After you have the effect you desire, swipe left until you hear the "Send
with such and such effect" button. Double-tap on it.

The message will be sent with the chosen effect and VO should announce it to
you. If the recipient is sighted, they will see the effect when they open the
iMessage. If it is a VO user, VO will announce a description of the screen
effect.

Enjoy.

Later...

RE: Best adult apps for iPhone, VR-Heads

2018-01-12 Thread M. Taylor

Hi Mark,

Sorry but I hve to ask,

Is it just me or are the majority of these apps visual based?

When did IOS technology become tactile?

Otherwise I'm laughing at how people can easily make money.

Everyone,

Just so we're all clear, in no way am I endorsing, promoting, applauding, (or
anything else for that matter), any of the apps discussed in the following
article.

While the App Store isn't overflowing with adult content, there are a fair few
apps you can find, so long as you know what you are looking for.

. iKamaSutra
. Pinup Poker
. Playboy Classic
. iPassion
. Browser for Reddit

You can even shake your phone to pick a random position,
save your favorites, there are even suggestions for sweet and sexy date ideas
in there.
See at iTunes ($2.99)

See at iTunes

Playboy Classic
Playboy has long been a staple when it comes to adult oriented entertainment.
Their app delivers you tons of content that you would have found in the
magazine a few years ago, just this time it's on the screen of your preferred
device. You can browse through photos of playmates, read articles, and even
view galleries of classic cartoons from the earlier days of the magazine. There
is roughly a ton of content crammed into this app for you to view and explore.
Playboy Classic is subscription based, with a 30-day membership running $2.99,
or a one-year subscription for $19.99. Updated daily with new photos, events,
and articles, this may be the app you've been looking for!
See at iTunes($2.99 monthly, $19.99 yearly)

iPassion
Sometimes you want a little bit of a surprise to spice up your love life with
your sweetie. iPassion can help you do just that with a fun game built for
couples. You'll both answer a few questions about yourself, followed by a
specially built quiz. Both you and your partner will need to answer questions
about each other. Each correct answer will net you 10 points, and the first one
to hit 100 points will win a prize.
This is a fun way for you to learn more about your partner, and what get their
motor going. If you're not sure it's quite up your alley, have no fear. This

Re: Seeking Tutorial on Numbers or Microsoft XL

2018-01-12 Thread Phil Halton
As far as I know there is no such tutorial for numbers. I had to teach myself
numbers by using the help file and through experimenting and spreadsheets.
Digging deep into the Health file, specifically the functions and they’re very
syntax descriptions was all I had to go by. That and then experimenting with
these functions in simple spreadsheets taught me how to use Numbers.

Hello,

Thanks, Simon. Looking through the messages I remember seeing about F10 and I
had tried it. I guess I did it just once and muted it. Because now I just
pressed F10 and have NVDA droning way.

So I’m happy and can go out shopping now.

Hello Janina,

Yes, I discover that I have not had the missing directory problem. Looking on
the USB stick from which I installed windows and the subsequent driver install
via bootcamp have the $WinPeDriver$ directory. Using my iPhone and seeing AI
I’m able to get fragments of text read but obviously it can’t tell me what has

were done from a fresh bootcamp driver download. So I copied the audio driver
into the root and run it from there. seeing AI tells me that I am in the driver
installation wizard. After accepting Apple’s license terms. There’s some text
about the there is a newer version already installed. So nearly 2a.m. I crawl
to bed. I won’t write what I feel my next step will be at the moment.

I am going to train with a new Guide Dog on the 22nd and retire my current dog
on this Sunday so I’ve got a lot to do while I can get out and about. So I’ll
take my Mac either as a single or double boot machine with me on Guide dog
training.

gave me the screen reader I was lacking via the 3.5 audio jack on the Airbook.

I'm so happy to be past this step. It's been driving me bonkers for weeks and
weeks.

Thanks to everyone who took an interest and offered suggestions. I appreciate
your help very much.

RE: VMware Fusion 10.1.1 and BootCamp

2018-01-12 Thread Simon Fogarty
I know someone here in NZ who has had a similar situation on a reasonably new
mac book,

So it's not a device age issue it's to me a driver issue, surely then that
would be a bootcamp driver which is of course an apple thing not windows.

Yeah, Simon. It's easy to do.

Problem is that last time I had sighted assistance here, we finished the
Windows installation with sighted help. We installed NVDA without speech. We
confirmed that volume was not muted and was at around 50%.

Lastly, there's a "test" button on the Windows configuration screen that
graphically shows some kind of progress indicator while sound is playing, so my
sighted assistant could verify that Windows was playing sound.

I'm confident it's a driver issue, or a driver plus Windows security kind of
combination issue.

There are those in the security community that consider audio a security risk.
I've bumped heads with them before. I've still got the bruises!
