I kid you not, at least here you can get those at Walmart. It has a
standard USB cable and more than one of the USB C cables attached. the
one i saw in a flier was like $8 or something.

As to the question of connection types, that's what adapters are for. Grab a

then you'll need the opposite adapter to connect the drive to the old Mac.
Either way, make sure the adapter is able to handle USB3 speeds, as cheap

Re: internet accounts

2018-11-10 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I have been getting prompts like that for 6-12 months for all my accounts in
Internet accounts. For me this only happens when I put the computer to sleep
rather than logging out. And also, usually once my keychain is fully unlocked
on both Mac and iCloud the other accounts usually work correctly.

Best wishes,

Re: VO at File Volt / Start up.

2018-11-10 Thread Jonathan Cohn
For my MacBook Air that I purchased two years ago the single beep is replaced
with a voice saying user name and the two beeps are replaced with the same
voice saying password. It still has the three beeps, though sometimes those
don't sound.

So, I expect that some of the behavior is based on the firmwaare.

VO at File Volt / Start up.

2018-11-10 Thread Simon Fogarty
Morning All,

I've just enabled file volt on my Mac Book Pro 2018 running Mojave 10.14.1 and
noted the following message down during the FV enabling

Hopefully it will answer a number of questions people have been having.

Important Message, Noted down.

Important VoiceOver Information:

When you log in to unlock an Encrypted Disk, VoiceOver is not available!

Instead Beeps indicate the LogIn Field in which the Kersor is located.

After your computer restarts follow these instructions to LogIn,

press CommandF5,
A Single beep indicates the LogIn Window is ready for input and the Kersor is
positioned in the "Name" Field!
Type your "Username" and hit return,

If you hear a Single Beep the "Username" is Invalid,

Type the "Name" again
If you hear a Double Beep then the Name is Valid and your Kersor is positioned
in the "Password" Field,

Type your "Password" and hit Return,

If you hear a Double Beep your password is Invalid,

Type your Password again and if you hear 3 Beeps,

Then your Password is Valid and LogIn Preceeds...

HTH

USB 2/3 is a standard by which these things operate. The adapters
Alex refers to are the physical things that allows one to keep using
older hardware. In this case if yuo have many devices with the older USB

RE: time to replace the 2010 MBP

Why do I need an adapter if USB 3 is backwards compatible?

Subject: Re: time to replace the 2010 MBP

Anything will work, as USB3 is backward-comptabile with the USB2 on your old
Mac. I'd definitely get a USB3 storage device, even though it's more expensive,
because it will be a lot faster.

As to the question of connection types, that's what adapters are for. Grab a
USBC adapter or three, or a hub, to connect your drive. If the drive is USBC,
then you'll need the opposite adapter to connect the drive to the old Mac.
Either way, make sure the adapter is able to handle USB3 speeds, as cheap
adapters that can't will bottleneck your transfers.

Using the mail app, and a few other questions?

2018-11-10 Thread Matt Turner
Hi folks.
I’ve been trying to find and easy music player to use.
I’ve tryed the iTunes app, but I'd like something
alittle easyer to use.
As for the mail app, I can read messages, but I keep wanting to use it like
windows.
Of course, I could put Windows on here, but I’d like to learn how to use the
Mac.

Re: Mojave not staying on my preferred voice after update

2018-11-10 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello,
I’ve just done the update to 10.14.1 with no voice problems. I have four
different languages set up on my MacBook Air with my system running in English.
Fred is my preferred voice and that’s the one that was speaking after the
update. I do not have automatic language switching selected as it’s more
trouble than it’s worth.
Cheers,

Anne

If I remember correctly, once you press the edit /customise button to adjust
the voice features, there’s a button just before the help button that you need

this is collapsed so you can’t see the other voices, hence you need to expand

Any assistance is really appreciated as this is starting to drive me crazy.

hey all,
am finding a shocking problem with voiceover when installing updates on Mojave.
i use the alex voice but every time i update, my voice options are lost and the
system reverts back to the australian voice.
i have to then go and set all the different voice parameters such as attributes
and typing back to alex.
all the pitch and speed settings are left alone.
it is extremely irritating.
has anyone else found this?

I’m in search of one of these for my new MacBook Pro, and as tempting as it is
to simply buy 2 of them from Apple, I don’t have $40 to spend that much money.
However, I’ve found so many of them, ranging from Amazon Basics, to brands I’ve
never heard of that have so many mixed reviews, that I don’t know what to pick
from, and the USB hub I currently have that I haven’t needed to use in a while
is about 15 years or so, so I’m just hoping the 2 will be able to work with
each other.
  Does anyone have any recommendations?

Subject: Mac-Mini with wireless keyboard?

Hi folks, subject says it all.

I've got a USB wireless, not Bluetooth Logitech full size keyboard, with a
number pad, it even has media keys as well.

I was listening to a podcast, and It was talking about if you can't start up
voiceover with  command F5, you can hit the FN/ Function key.

This wireless keyboard doesn't have that key, at least I think it doesn't.

This keyboard is being used with windows now.

The keyboard also came with a wireless mouse, witch I never used.

So just wondering how I'd get VO started if the keyboard doesn't have said
Function key?

RE: File vault on macs with youch bars.

2018-11-10 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Tim,

I’ve got to reimage my work machine so I’ll take a look at this when I do it.

I might start vo talking for all situations before I turn file volt on.

Simon,

You're probably right. When I had my 2011 souped up MBP, VO did not work at
the File Vault screen, it just beeped. When I got this new one with High
Sierra, I guess that I didn't check the VO settings in Users & Groups very
carefully, and made an incorrect assumption. Thanks for enlightening me.

Simon,

In Mojave, you are correct. It didn't work for me on older iterations of the
MacOS, but that may have just been on an older MacBook Pro as well. Because it
didn't on my old 2011 MBP, I didn't even realize that it may have worked on my
new 2017 model, so I can't confirm how it worked in High Sierra. Anyway, in
Mojave, in the Login Options area of the Users & Groups System Preference pane,
there is now a button named "Accessibility Options". Press on this and check
which accessibility option you'd like at the login screen and it works both at
the regular Login screen and at the File Vault version of the login screen.
One more thing to mention, I said that you needed your account name at the File
Vault login prompt, but that is inaccurate now as well. You could enter either
the Full Name or the Account Name and it will be accepted.

Does that not let you get around this issue?

I’ve just acquired what I didn’t know was a MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar, that

set up, and everything went well until they left, it went to sleep, and I
couldn’t seem to be able to wake it up.
So I powered it off then back on, only to have forgotten there’s no sound when
starting it up, so I can’t tell if the fingerprint sender is working, which I
know we set up and it took, so at the moment, I can’t get it to do a thing.
Does anyone have some tips?

Re: Issue With Voice Over Resetting Voices on Mojave after System Updates.

2018-11-10 Thread 'Shawn Krasniuk' via MacVisionaries
Hi all. This is mostly out of curiosity that I'm asking this, but why would
anyone want to have those extra parameters if all they want to use is one voice
for everything? If this is what you want, can't you just turn those parameters
off? I'm just asking this because I'm running Mojave and I'm using the voice
setting called automatically select based on language and I'm not reproducing
the issue. I get one voice speaking to me like it should.

Shawn,
