Mac OS and BootCamp

2018-11-16 Thread Simon Fogarty
Morning List,

I have a Mid 2013 Mac Book Air on which I currently have Mac OS 10.14.x
installed and then in a Boot Camp partition I have windows 10 installed with
Jaws as my Screen reader

What I'd like to know is if anyone running a similar type setup has noticed
any volume related issues with the boot camp partition?

The Volume on the mac os side is fine no issues at all,
Yet on the windows side volume is saying 100% but really is only to me at least
60% of the mac os volume.

I just wondered if anyone else had struck such a situation.

Cheers,

Simon F

RE: anyone who had already tryed word 2019?

2018-11-16 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Jonathan,

Like a number of other members of the list, I do have the high and sierra
installers,

Would you like copies of them?
I hadn't really taken any notice of accessibility as I just sit down at my desk
and start working on email.

But it overall seems to be pretty much the same suite as 2016.

While it is probably true that there is little difference between the last 2016
version and the current 2019 version, I have noticed improvements in
accessibility in Microsoft Outlook over the past year in my Office 365 account.
I am currently at the point however, where I can’t move forward with Microsoft
Outlook since I am running too old an operating system on my work computer.
Office has not yet approved Mohave and they seem to have lost the standalone
installer for High Sierra and Sierra. So I expect my work system will be stuck
for another two to three months running El Capitan.

Take care,

Jonathan

Re: Ringtone Solution?

2018-11-16 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Create AAC is no longer part of the contextual menu, but is still available.
Select the song you wish to convert, go up to the File menu, down to Convert,
then right and down to Create AAC version. One extra thing to note is that the
song must be downloaded to your computer, not up in the Cloud.

I’ve tried a couple audio converters, and a ringtone creator from the app

Help is appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Question about Auto Fill when Completing Forms on the Mac

2018-11-16 Thread Jonathan Cohn
There are some sites, including things that I maintain that do not want
Autofill to work on the site. In most cases this is a bank that considers
password auto-filling to be an easy way to get hacked, and considering the
cross site scripting vulnerabilities that made Apple require true user input
before auto-fill occurs they were probably right.

Other times autofill might be set to no, so that answered are original on
subsequent visits.

mail problem

2018-11-16 Thread jean parker
Hi All:

Thanks Tim for your tips on handling outgoing mail. I have reported this to
Apple as I still find it clunky to use. I encourage others to do the same so it
gets the needed attention. Aside from brief messages that require little or no
correction, I have taken to composing in a word processor then pasting it into
the message. Apple wants to hear from others experiencing this problem.

Hi Anne:
I just got off the phone about the mail editing thing and mentioned this to
them as a problem. If others are having this problem I encourage reporting of
it to Apple.

Re: reading by sentence in pdf documents

2018-11-16 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Jean,
Sometimes reading by sentence works and sometimes it doesn’t. I suspect it has
to do with the way the PDF was created. However, there are other problems too.
I can’t get Preview to Read All any more.

Re: Question about Auto Fill when Completing Forms on the Mac

2018-11-16 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I use it for auto-filling username/password info all the time. Just navigate
to the field, press the down arrow once, then press return. There are a few
sites that must use a improper field protocol as those do not accept the
auto-fill items. Normally, VO will announce something about "Auto-fill" if the
field has those options, but that's still not a guarantee.

Accessible heart rate monitoring with an iPhone?

2018-11-16 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all,
I know that the Apple Watch can’t enable you to monitor your heart rate during
the work out. However, I would like to find a less expensive way that would let
me do this Accessibility. I recall hearing that the fit bit app is accessible
or wise. And I know there are various models of fit bit. Is this a less
expensive but equally accessible alternative? I can’t justify the watch based
on some of the other nice uses that it has at this point. But I really would
like the heart rate monitoring ability.
Mary

Re: links not showing up in mail message

2018-11-16 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Lots of Googly things behave oddly in Mail. Lot of times Mail seems to bring
the entire message together and there's no way to interact deeper to get at the
details of a message created by a Google service. The workaround that I've
used is to use cmd-a to Select All the content of the message, then open a
TextEdit document and paste the contents into the TextEdit document. It will
handle the links just fine.

Not ideal, but this has been an issue fsince the release of High Sierra for me
and Google created eMail messages. It's just the ones that are auto-created,
those sent via gMail by a Google user are fine.

Re: anyone who had already tryed word 2019?

2018-11-16 Thread Jonathan Cohn
While it is probably true that there is little difference between the last 2016
version and the current 2019 version, I have noticed improvements in
accessibility in Microsoft Outlook over the past year in my Office 365 account.
I am currently at the point however, where I can’t move forward with Microsoft
Outlook since I am running too old an operating system on my work computer.
Office has not yet approved Mohave and they seem to have lost the standalone
installer for High Sierra and Sierra. So I expect my work system will be stuck
for another two to three months running El Capitan.

Take care,

Jonathan

links not showing up in mail message

Hi all,

I have a message with a form from a google doc. That form contains a link to a
dropbox directory. I see the words dropbox directory, but it doesn't show up
as a link, and I don't seem to be able to access the dropbox files. Anyone
have any thoughts about how to trouble shoot this? Still running High Sierra.
thanks,
Donna

Printer/scanner/copier recommendations

2018-11-16 Thread 'Adrienne Chalmers' via MacVisionaries
Hi

Yes, I do seem to spend more time cleaing the nozzle than anything else.

I have no experience at all of laser printers, is the toner difficult to
replace? I imagine it doesn’t have to be done that often.

Best

Adrienne
