deleting an account on my Mac

2018-12-09 Thread Lorie McCloud
I'm losing access to my sbcglobal account on Yahoo. it's too complicated to go
into. I just decided to let it go. most people I know have lost theirs already.
it's a secondary account anyway. my question is: how do I delete the account
from my Mac? it's offline but I can't sign into it because it won't accept the
password I have always used. can I just wipe it out of there some way?

thanks.

RE: Apple Watch - wake screen and siri

2018-12-09 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Mark,

I don't have the series 4 watch but my series 2 I did the same thing with my
watch,

Especially siri after a friend jokingly yelled across a café table,
Hey Siri call the police,
To which I suddenly had emergency services on the phone / watch,
Joke was on the mate who thought it wouldn't work.

The Series 3 is definitely a worth-while update form a Series 0.
Congratulations.

Raise to Speak is tricky at best, I've found. The motion seems to be a very
deliberate raising of the arm until the Watch is just in front of the mouth,
but even that doesn't always work. I find that Hey Siri works just fine,
though, so I don't really worry about Raise to Speak much. It would be cool to
have, but saving myself three syllables doesn't seem worth the bother the
feature is to get working.

On 12/7/2018 11:27 AM, 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries wrote:

Hi,

This is totally doable on iOS if you also have a Mac.  You can connect
the iOS device to your Mac with the USB charging cable.  Go to QuickTime
on your Mac and choose "New Movie Recording" from the file menu.  In the
resulting window, VO-space on the "Show Capture Devices" pop-up and
select the iPad or iPhone for both video and audio capturing.  By
default, the volume seems to always be muted, so VO-left to the Full
Volume button and press it.  Finally, VO-right to the Start Recording
button and press it.  Because you are doing a movie recording, you get
both the video and audio from the iOS device recorded by QuickTime.
Press the Stop button to end the recording and edit/trim/save your
product.

This appears to be more challenging on the Mac.  I can use an app called
Reflector to capture the video content, but the VoiceOver Audio is more
challenging.  I've got some ideas, but need to round up a cable or two
to test before I make any commitments as to its usability.  The audio
and video is mirrored when using Reflector and an iOS device, but I
haven't bothered messing with recording this way yet.

Re: Apple Watch - wake screen and siri

2018-12-09 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
What I’ve discovered is you need a special motion to activate siri. First, you
raise your arm in front of you almost to mouth level keeping your elbow
straight. Then you turn your wrist toward your mouth while you move the watch
in that direction. Think of it as raising the watch out and over to your
mouth. Raising the watch directly toward your mouth doesn’t work. My wife who
is sighted had difficulty until I showed her the technique.
I think you’ll like it once you learn the correct motion. Also, it is easier
when you are standing starting with the watch down by your side.

RE: Apple Watch - wake screen and siri

2018-12-09 Thread M. Taylor
You know, it’s funny. The first thing I did, this morning with my series 4
watch was to disable both Hay Siri and Raise-to-speak. I don’t like the idea
of Siri listening to everything I say.

Subject: Re: Apple Watch - wake screen and siri

The Series 3 is definitely a worth-while update form a Series 0.
Congratulations.

Raise to Speak is tricky at best, I've found. The motion seems to be a very
deliberate raising of the arm until the Watch is just in front of the mouth,
but even that doesn't always work. I find that Hey Siri works just fine,
though, so I don't really worry about Raise to Speak much. It would be cool to
have, but saving myself three syllables doesn't seem worth the bother the
feature is to get working.

What are the best settings for the wake screen?

Raise to speak siri only works some of the time. Are there any tricks to
getting siri to respond? Perhaps holding the digital crown is more reliable.

Re: Portable mini keyboard for a visually impaired person.

2018-12-09 Thread 'Alex Hall' via MacVisionaries
This will depend on a few factors. I have a folding keyboard from iClever that
I like okay. It's aluminum, and is reasonably sturdy. It folds up, with the two
outer portions folding over the central one, thus protecting all the keys when
not in use. The drawback is that it starts to fold up if you try to use it on
your lap, so you need a steady surface to use it.

The other small one I've found is the Logitech K380 multi-device keyboard. I
like the keys, the device is sturdy, there's a physical on/off switch, and it
can be connected to up to three machines at once. Right now, for instance, I
can press f1 to connect to my iPhone, and f2 to switch to my Windows computer.
I still have one slot left for a future device. The main difference is that
this keyboard is larger (still quite small, though) and the keys aren't
protected. They don't stick up much, so I imagine putting this in a bag would
work fine, but the iClever keyboard has the folding design that means no keys
can be snagged or knocked off.

Both options are usually about or under $30. The iClever keyboard is
rechargeable, while the K380 uses two batteries.

Re: Customizing the safari toolbar with Voiceover.

2018-12-09 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I don't think that VO users can customize toolbars. My memory is that the
pallets have icons that then need to be dragged into the toolbar of the main
window, however VoiceOver does not allow the VO cursor to move away from the
dialog box while it is open. It might be possible to script something to do
this, but really this should be an item for Apple to consider. I usually
hide/ignore toolbars so I have not really thought about this much, but it could
certainly add some efficiency especially if one creates a hotspot for the
toolbar.
Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn
