RE: skype nonsense

2019-01-08 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Doug,

Other than granting the Appropriate device permissions, VoiceOver and Skype, at
least in my experience, are completely compatible on both Mac OS Mojave and the
latest version of iOS.

Are there any MacOS accessibility or access settings that need to be enabled
for Skype to work with VoiceOver?

Also, to the mention of Skype For Business (SFB): I am not aware of SFB being
at least easily usable to replace Skype, as SFB requires a corporate server and
does not, by default usage anyway, link to regular Skype users.
Conversations can be arranged between SFB contacts and Skype contacts, but I
think that requires a bit of special setup for each contact. Corrections
welcome.

Have you turned VoiceOver off and then back on, again after launching Skype?

Hello All:
I made the mistake of updating skype trying to resolve yet another problem it
was causing. Now it is totally nonfunctional. When I open it, it says that
skype has no windows. None of the shortcut keys work except for command 1 which
opens a totally inaccessible web site. Everything in the menus is dimmed out. I
can???t even make the thing quit correctly and have to do a forced quit to
close it. I am using the latest version of Mac OS.
I haven???t heard any complaints about skype for a while so I assumed that it
was behaving itself. Or, maybe everyone has just given up on it, a perfectly
understandable response to be sure.
Any and all ideas welcome including how to get a previous version that will at
least do something productive.

About backups for iOS devices
You can copy and save the information on your iOS device by backing it up.
If you replace your device, you can use its backup to transfer your
information to a new iOS device.

Decide which method is best for you
This article can help you decide which backup method is best for you. In
case you ever need an alternative backup, you can make a backup in iCloud
and another in iTunes.

iCloud
. Stores backups in iCloud
. Offers up to 2TB of storage (your first 5GB are free)
. Always encrypts your backups
. Lets you create and use backups from anywhere with Wi-Fi

iTunes
. Stores backups on your Mac or PC
. Storage depends on your Mac or PC's available space
. Offers encrypted backups (off by default)

iCloud backups
With a Wi-Fi network connection, you can make a backup of your device using
iCloud. You don't need to plug your device into a computer or even be at
home to back up with iCloud.
iCloud backups include nearly all data and settings stored on your device.
iCloud backups don't include:
. Data that's already stored in iCloud, like Contacts, Calendars,
Notes, iCloud Photos, iMessages, Voice Memos, and text (SMS) and multimedia
(MMS) messages*
. Data stored in other cloud services, like Gmail and Exchange mail
. Apple Mail data
. Apple Pay information and settings
. Touch ID settings
. iCloud Music Library and App Store content (If it's still available
in the iTunes, App, or Apple Books store, you can tap to re-download your
already purchased content.)

your content is automatically stored in iCloud.

your device with your computer isn't the same as making a backup. An iTunes
backup includes nearly all of your device's data and settings. An iTunes

Drive connected to airport extreme is invissible.

2019-01-08 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
I am a bit confused in regards to my Airport extreme and connecting a harddisk
to it.
I have a drive which is formatted as mac extended jurnaled that has 2
partitions.
One for files and one for backing up my mac.
Setting things up in time machine when smoothly and its backing everything up
as it should.
However when i try to use the drive or the other partition as a network
harddisk i can’t find it in finder.
>From what i understand I should enable file sharing within the airport utility
>at the disks tab.
So i open up the airport utility and interact with the network area and
navigate to my airport extreme and click on that. Then i press edit and get all
the tabs from where i select the disks tab.
Here are my two partitions showing up and file sharing is enabled.
There’s also a checkbox to enable it to be available via wan but i have not
that checked.
Then we come to the secure harddisk with and here i have selected to secure my
harddisk via a disk password.
Then i click save and update and when the thing gets started i went into finder
and pressed shift cmd c to access my computer.
I go down to network and open that.
Here i see my airport extreme so i expand the item but here things stop working.
I don’t see my partitions at all.
But when i open Vlc on my Android Phone i can gain access to the disks with no
problem.
So i don’t get this at all.
I can use the android phone but not my Mac to gain access to the network disks.
Very strange.

Re: screen replacement?

2019-01-08 Thread Cameron Strife
Hi. You certainly don't want to leave it without the glass...

You can get a replacement glass panel that perfectly fits the imac
from various sellers on e bay for around $65. Just search for iMac
replacement glass and you should find it. be sure you know your imac
model before purchasing something though. Proper placement is
essential. The way guys do it a lot of the time is to use a few
suction cups to get it into position. You need to be careful when
placing it though as the magnets used to hold the glass panel in place
are very strong. The risk of the glass being cracked or broken though
is much higher when taking off an old panel though. Getting the
placement just right the first time will avoid you having to take the
new one off to reposition it...

Cameron.

Re: screen replacement?

2019-01-08 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

That model will likely no longer be supported by Apple, thus you're looking at
a third party part. If you can actually find one, you could be looking at
anywhere up to $500 or so and not a guarantee of it actually being a new
screen, as in it could be a used one from an iMac with other problems.

The biggest issue that you may have with just leaving it be as is, is the dust
and humidity access. Without a screen on the front, you're allowing dust and
humidity easier access to the internal workings of the iMac.

2019-01-08 Thread 'Danny Keys' via MacVisionaries
Hello,
Well, I don’t know what to say other than that my boes headphones with 3.5 mm
jack work just fine while installing windows 10 on my MBP mid 2014. While the
laptop speakers don’t work till windows comes up with the drivers, for some
reason the 3.5 mm connector works just fine.
