Re: Message Filters

2019-06-06 Thread KliphnShari Miller
This is a rarity tim but have to disagree with you friendly of course. But i.
Use the iCloud website from my mac and fine it quite simple, creating rules to
sort mail, organize contacts, creating alias’s, and changing account info like
name and vacation message. The key is, you have to use vo keys plus command
and the shift keys to select the tab you want to use. But once those rules to
sort email are set, you never have to do it again.

Adjusting Individual Audio Sources on the Mac

Is there any way to adjust the audio level for individual applications on the

I’m looking for something equivalent to opening the volume control on Windows

PS: I looked at the 2017 Air machines still available today. I'm
disappointed. It looks to me like the only advantage of leaving my 2014
 Air for a 2017 model is a measly 4Gb more RAM. That's ain't enough
 today, imo.

I'm back to looking at the small Thinkpad X1 Carbon machines for
laptops. I realize that would leave me out of the Apple eco system. I am
finding the new minis very attractive, so perhaps I'm thinking
 transitionally.

You all have gotten under my skin enough so that I don't really want to

I agree with the opposing viewpoint. I've had my Mac for almost two years now,
and I've never made so many typos as I do with the butterfly keyboard. I kept
thinking I would get used to it, but I haven't. I still hate this stupid
keyboard.

Re: How do I convert an mp4 file

2019-06-06 Thread CHUCK REICHEL
Hi tim,
When needed I use to import the mp4 in to itunes then go to itune preferences
change the import option to mp3 and export it that way.
Unless something changed that should still work.
The draw back to going from mp4 down to a mp3 is the quality degrades even
further! ;(
If you need to do that give that a try.
If its a bunch of files I set up an itunes playlist just to do that and then go
back and delete the audio files from the drive.

Re: handbrake

Hi,

handBrake is more of a conversion tool than an editor, unless features of it
have changed. I've used it quite a bit in the past to rip DVD's for use on my

Hi,

Well, if they're mp4, then they should actually open. Not sure why you're
having issues with specific mp4 files. In either case, you could use HandBrake
to convert them to other formats.

Re: First Aid error message

2019-06-06 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

When First Aid ran, the file system check had a mismatch in its count. If this
was ran from the Recovery HD, then it was likely fixed by the first aid
process. If this was done when logged into the Finder, then it will likely
report the same error again. Not a big deal, I wouldn't worry about it.

2019-06-06 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi Simon,

Janina may be right :). No, it doesn't have a boot chime. I have a similar
model, but the 3.1 I5 processor and 16 GB of RAM. It's the one with the Touch
Bar and 4 USB C ports. I haven't had any problems with my model although, like
you, many don't like the feel of the butterfly keys, and some are stuck on USB
A ports, of which the MBP's have none. Battery life is good, but not
excellent. It's nice and light and handles processing big jobs well. If the
price is right, I'd go for it.

You all have gotten under my skin enough so that I don't really want to
leave Apple out of my life. Heck, Safari has become my favorite gui
browser in recent months. Go figure.

Best,

Janina

Re: mac pro pricing

I love that 1.5 Tb of RAM. At last the tacit acknowledgement that 4, 8
and even 16 are miserly and inadequate in today's software world.

Frankly, even the 16 Gb I'm seeing on current Thinkpads is leaving me
unimpressed. This Mac shows me that Apple has the right idea, imo about
RAM.

The articles I’ve read are lacking in specifics beyond the base price. I expect
details will be forthcoming as the hardware becomes available. If you have the
kinds of processor and memory-intensive applications that require it, and the
budget, then it’s going to be an excellent machine, based on what I’ve read.

For the sake of perspective, you’ll be able to buy one for less than what a new
80-cell braille display currently costs. I’ve used an 80-cell braille display,
and I like it very much, but I haven’t reached the point of seriously making
the financial commitment.

Hi List,

Has anyone actually seen a pricing structure for the new Mac Pro yet other than
it’s base model price?

I know what the price will be in the USA but I’m wanting to price the fully
spec’d version to see what the price in NZ will be.

Re: mac book pro 2017

2019-06-06 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hey, Simon. My wish for you is that someone returned these machines
because they'd heard there shouldn't be a boot chime any longer!

Janina

PS: I looked at the 2017 Air machines still available today. I'm
disappointed. It looks to me like the only advantage of leaving my 2014
Air for a 2017 model is a measly 4Gb more RAM. That's ain't enough
today, imo.

I'm back to looking at the small Thinkpad X1 Carbon machines for
laptops. I realize that would leave me out of the Apple eco system. I am
finding the new minis very attractive, so perhaps I'm thinking
transitionally.

You all have gotten under my skin enough so that I don't really want to
leave Apple out of my life. Heck, Safari has become my favorite gui
browser in recent months. Go figure.

Best,

Janina

RE: Reading app-specific passwords on the Apple-id page

Hi Daniel,

I must be doing something wrong then as I've never struck this before.

Although I've only once ever setup an iCloud email account.

It is in the security section when logged into your Apple-ID.

You need to generate an app-specific password if you want to connect a
third-party app such as Outlook to your iCloud account.

Nothing is sent. You need to read the password on the web page in the security
section on your Apple-id page.
You then need to copy that password over to Outlook and insert it into the
account setup page there.

Hope this makes it more clear.

Daniel

  Hi List,

Just wondering if anyone on the list has a 2017 13.3" Mac book pro with 2.3GHz
I5 prodessor?

I'm just looking at one of these model machines from the apple refurbished
devices and wondered why such a nice sounding machine would have been returned
to apple?
I just wondered if this might be a problematic model as there are 3 of them
showing in the NZ apple website refurbished list.

Cheers for any information.

Mark,
I am sure those steps will be profoundly helpful for someone.
However I do not own an IOS device at all.
Is there another method?
If not I will need to find someone in my area who has both an IOS device
and the application.

Thanks for one door at least.

Hello Karen,

To find Apple in-store training sessions near you, do the following from an
iOS device:

1.
If you have not yet done so, download the Apple Store app. This app may
already be installed on your device but, if not, you may get it from the App
Store.

2.
Sign into the app and allow it to access your current location.

3.
Finally, select the, Sessions, tab, located near the bottom of the display
screen. A list of all upcoming training sessions in the Apple store,
nearest you, will be displayed.

Enjoy,

Hi everyone,
I recall from another thread that one of our members does this in an Apple

that still provide the service? I may be mistaken, but not all of them do
these days correct?

Re: Reading app-specific passwords on the Apple-id page

2019-06-06 Thread Daniel Gartmann

It is in the security section when logged into your Apple-ID.

You need to generate an app-specific password if you want to connect a
third-party app such as Outlook to your iCloud account.

Nothing is sent. You need to read the password on the web page in the security
section on your Apple-id page.
You then need to copy that password over to Outlook and insert it into the
account setup page there.

Hope this makes it more clear.

Hi all,
I was just wondering how I can change the way my emails are listed on my Mac?
At the moment I have the newest email at the top of the list and the older
emails at the bottom. I was thinking I’d try it the other way round but
couldn’t find where to change it. I did go in the mail Preferences and found
the view menu, and there was a check box that said something like show old
messages at the top tick box and it was not ticked. I am using modern view on
the native mail app on the Mac.

I can’t figure out how how to read and copy an app specific password that I
created to put into Outlook for Windows.

I click on the Show History link, or that is the Danish text translated into

I get the time and the label for when I created the password, but wwhen I
click on it, I can’t find the password to copy.

I am using JAWS with GoogleChrome.

Anybody had success doing that?

Thanks in advance.

I know what the price will be in the USA but I’m wanting to price the fully

RE: new mac books

2019-06-06 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Janina,

 That' my thoughts also,

 I can get a 2017 13" air for 2504 NZ dollars,
But it's got the custom build with 8gb ram, 2.2GHz I7 processor and 512GB ram,
Oh and it's got the older keyboard style,
But now I'm thinking I should just go for a newer pro and get use to the new
butterfly keyboard as I'm guessing it's not going anywhere quickly.

Thanks very much for this info, Shawn.

These days I'm preferring the smallest and lightest physical unit I can get
packed to the teeth with RAM, CPU, and SSD. So, a 2017 Air might just be the
ticket.

RE: iPad Models

2019-06-06 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi ET,

>From what I've seen / read / played with,
It's simply size in the new ipad mini and iPad 10.5" Air,

Other than that the keyboard on the air.
To put it simply the air is a half breed mini and pro.
I recently got the 11" pro, only because my retailer didn't have the iPad mini
5 insstock at the time.

Still mulling over the iPadOS news and am wondering what the major
differences are between the iPad mini and Air models. If anyone has used both,
please share your thoughts. Thanks.
