Re: Passcode on Apple watch

2021-03-04 Thread Chris Moore
A couple things:
First, if your iPhone is handy, you can put your watch on your wrist and unlock
your phone to avoid entering the passcode.
Second, rather than swiping on your watch, you can simply move your finger on
the watch face until you land on the digit, then double-tap.

Amadeus Pro - splitting album into tracks

2021-01-08 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,

I’m working on splitting an album into tracks based on silence detection. This
particular album has fades at the end of the tracks which throws off the
silence detection. Fixing this involves changing the marker positions in the
markers window. In Mosen’s book he indicated that this feature was not
accessible. Well, I was able to access the location field by routing the mouse
to the VO cursor with cmd + VO + f5, and clicking the mouse with VO + shift +
space and increasing the locations as appropriate. The marker names can be
added in a similar fashion.

Hello,
Has anyone experimented with book readers on the mac other than iBooks? I saw
bookreader on the app store but don’t want to spend the money if it doesn’t
work.

iPhone: strange voiceOver utterance

2020-05-01 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
When my iPhone is locked, I occasionally hear voiceOver say something like:
“showing page 1 of 57”.

I haven’t done much to investigate but would be glad to discover a way to shut
it off.

Re: Searching in mail

Hi Tim,
I go into the toolbar, move to the far right,
and vo says “search more items pop-up button”
Then I hit VO + space and it says “menu”.

Basically, I can’t find any text area to enter the search criteria.

Braille blaster - creating a braille file?

2020-02-14 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
I’ve just started playing with braille blaster on the mac. I’d like to create
a Braille file, but the only option seems to be to send it to an embosser,
which I don’t have.

I haven’t read the docs yet but was hoping someone on this list would have some
suggestions.

Would I need to use mouse keys?

TIA

Re: Apple Watch - wake screen and siri

2018-12-09 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
What I’ve discovered is you need a special motion to activate siri. First, you
raise your arm in front of you almost to mouth level keeping your elbow
straight. Then you turn your wrist toward your mouth while you move the watch
in that direction. Think of it as raising the watch out and over to your
mouth. Raising the watch directly toward your mouth doesn’t work. My wife who
is sighted had difficulty until I showed her the technique.
I think you’ll like it once you learn the correct motion. Also, it is easier
when you are standing starting with the watch down by your side.

Re: Deleting contacts from iCloud on the mac?

2018-12-01 Thread Chris Moore
Hi Matt,
The first question I would ask is how did you get double contacts on your
phone? You may have an extra source of contacts on your phone. If your mac
and phone are pulling contacts ONLY from iCloud, then they should match. Your
phone may be accessing an additional source of contacts. You can check this is
your contacts app.

Apple Watch - wake screen and siri

2018-12-01 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
I broke down and purchased a series 3 watch during the Apple sale. It is much
more responsive than the series 0 which I am turning in for $25.

What are the best settings for the wake screen?

Raise to speak siri only works some of the time. Are there any tricks to
getting siri to respond? Perhaps holding the digital crown is more reliable.

TIA

Apple watch series 3 or 4 - accessibility?

2018-11-03 Thread Chris Moore
I’m looking for feedback on the new watches. How accessible are they? More
specifically, is it easy to answer and make phone calls? Does the watch
announce the name or number of the caller?

I have some interest in getting either a series 3 or 4, but for the price, the
accessibility will have to be very good.

Re: Running Ubuntu in vmware fusion.

2018-09-13 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
I haven’t tried this in vmware, but as I recall, there are keystrokes for
switching between consoles.
Unless it has changed, Ubuntu has six text consoles accessed with ctrl+alt+f1
through control+alt+f6 and the graphical console with ctrl+alt+f7

On the mac, ctrl+alt would equate to ctrl+option which is the VO key. So I
would try turning VO off in fusion before trying the above keystrokes to switch
consoles.

Hello,
Just for something to try, I reset the energy saver preferences to factory

I’ll continue monitoring the situation.

Re: Howto save web page to desktop?

2018-02-18 Thread Chris Moore
Hello E.T,
I was able to accomplish this with drag and drop as follows:

1. stop interacting with the desired webpage.
2. interact with the safari toolbar
3. Navigate to the address bar.
4. Drag the item with VO comma.
5. Switch applications to the finder desktop with command tab.
6. drop the item with VOO shift comma or VO shift period.
7. You can edit the description of the webpage by hitting enter and editing
the filename.

Your method probably works, but it involves creating a .wloc file (possibly
using the terminal).

Did you allow your mac to accept remote logins? This is done in system

Re: You Tube downloader?

2017-11-06 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
I just ran youtube-dl from the terminal to extract mp3.
You don’t need homebrew to install it. The terminal command looks something
like:
youtube-dl —extract-audio —audio-format mp3 url

You can get the url by going into youtube in safari,
locating the desired song,
use the copy link in the shortcut menu
and paste it into the terminal command with cmd+v

Adding carriage returns to text file

2017-06-20 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
I had the need to add carriage returns to a text file created on my mac so I
could read it properly on my braille device. After several hours of
experimentation from articles found on google, I discovered that the only way
to accomplish this was using the “vi” program in terminal. Here are the steps:

1. open the terminal program.
2. interact with the terminal window with vo shift down-arrow.
3. if the file is not in your home directory, change to the appropriate folder
with the “cd” command.
4. Open the file with the vi editor with “vi file”
5. type: “:set fileformat=dos”
6. Now save the file with “:wq”

Remember that the quotes around the above commands are NOT to be entered.

There may be other approaches, but this one is quite simple once you use it a
few times.

Selecting an application in audio hijack

Hello,
I’m trying to record audio from a single application but can’t figure out how
to select the app. How do I get a list of apps to pick from?

how to remove system dialogs

2017-04-04 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
I have a couple system dialogs which I want to remove. They say “unknown”, and
there are no close buttons. I thought that a reboot would help, but no.
Are system dialogs part of the Mac, or are they unique to voiceOver?

Thanks
Chris

teamTalk and PTT key

2017-03-12 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
TeamTalk 5 is a chat client/server program. Although most people seem to run
it either windows or IOS, there is also a mac os version which appears to have
at least limited accessibility.
My question is what key to assign for PTT. Windows computers use the control
key, but I don’t know if this will work on the mac because it is part of the VO
key combination of control + option.

TIA

Re: The control-G vm fusion question again

2016-11-17 Thread Chris Moore
ScottI don’t know about control + g. What sometimes helps is to switch to full
screen mode with cmd + control + f. Then turn it off with the same keystroke.
I also tend to disable voiceover once I am safely in the VM with cmd + control
followed by cmd + f5.

 Hi Megan,

A new version of Karabiner is being developed for Sierra. Currently
however, you have to remap the key by creating a configuration file
manually. Here is the info in case you’d like to give it a shot:
 https://github.com/tekezo/Karabiner-Elements

Until it’s released, I’ve gone back to using the accent key as my screen
reading key as E.T. has suggested. But I really do miss having the caps
lock key working as the screen reading key.

Re: VO threw a bluetooth speaker

2016-09-02 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
This is doable without the audio/midi setup utility. When you connect the
bluetooth speaker, all sound will be routed thru it. You can reset this in the
sounds submenu for your BT device to route all sound to the mac speakers. Now
VO should be coming through the mac. The go to the sounds category in the VO
utility and use the pop-up to select your BT speaker. You should now hear VO
from your BT speaker and all other sound from your mac.

I can provide additional instructions if necessary.

Re: Windows 10 Anniversary Update compatibility with VMWare Fusion

2016-08-04 Thread Chris Moore
Hi Scott,
I successfully upgraded to windows 10 on vmware fusion 8. I followed the steps
mentioned in this thread. One important thing they left out was to make sure
that you need to first run windows update until you are fully up-to-date. This
may take several hours.

Hi Donna,
Another thing you can do with Sonos is to put all your music on a network drive
and build a library which can be accessed from any Sonos controller.

I’m not sure whether Sonos can play content from Apple Music. It should play
songs in your personal collection. There are many ways to play and stream on
your Sonos, so don’t give up just yet.

Hi Chris,
I listened to your iTunes podcast and commend you for the effort. My question
is when I am in the edit box VO + down just beeps and does not leave the edit
field. This is different behavior from what you described. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Re: How to emulate numeric keyboard in a Macbook air keyboard?

I have karabiner installed on my mac. One of the things you can do is to
emulate a numeric keypad. Maybe it sounds a bit geeky, but it does work!

In Logic Pro X, there are some commands that are easy to acces with a

there was a way, but I can’t remember!

Can somebody give me a hand please?

 Thanks!

If you’re in column view, position yourself on the folder in which you want the

VirtualBox questions

2016-03-19 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
I have a few questions before diving into VBox.
1. Is there a build for el capitan, or do I need to build from sources?

2. Is the GUI accessible with VO?

3. Assuming I can build a virtual machine either with the GUI or box-manage,
will it talk?

4. How is the VBox experience compared to Fusion?

Chris
