Re: VO to Audio

2010-06-28 Thread Courtney Curran
Hi,
Wow! I didn't know this is possible. So is this how it works, for example, I
type up some notes I need to study for a class. If I render it to an audio
file, would I be able to play the whole thing on my Ipod or something? Sorry
for the slight off-topicness.

If your goal is to migrate data from one Mac to another, then you simply use
the Migration tool, which is very efficient and effective. If your goal is
to simply move some files between two machines, the Migration tool is not
going to be the best solution. Instead you can use even something as simple
as scp, which is a part of the ssh package from the Terminal, you can use
file sharing and simply connect via the Finder from one box to the other, or
use ftp. Lots of ways to move content and hey, an external drive would work
just as well. Point is determine what he goal is and then use the
 appropriate tools.

Ipod Transfer Software

Hi,
I was wondering if anybody knows how to use Macsome Ipod Transfer Software. It
looks accessible, but when I transfer stuff, nothing will play. In the

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: DJ for mac

Hi,
I've tried to ask this question before, but I'm not sure if it got through. So,
if anyone knows can you please tell me if I could record a song then talk then
record more songs. I'm planning on doing an Internet Radio show and
prerecording it. Would this work? If not, any better ideas?

I've done this before when recording the iPod touch for podcasts. Of course,
depending on what you're needing the line in for, you might also need a usb

including the IPod Touch. Just remember, you can't use the IPod Touch they
are offering with this deal, as it does not support speech. It is the $199
8 gig IPod Touch that does not support Voice Over. I have heard a rumor
that you can use the $199 toward a device that does have speech though. hth

If you're a college student, you can probably get the student discount by
buying through your university. The university here in town and about half
of the community colleges in the area, sell PC's and Macs through their
bookstores, which are open over the summer. The student discount is
relatively small, roughly equalling the sales tax.

You've had a few replies, but I think you are referring to Apple's current
Back to School promotion. A couple of specific alerts about this. This is
being advertised in the U.S. as Buy a Mac for college, and get a free iPod
touch, and appears in the current Apple promotion pages:
 http://www.apple.com/promo/
The default iPod Touch being offered in the promo is the 8GB model that is
not VoiceOver compatible. You can apply the $199 credit towards the purchase
of the 32GB or 64GB iPod Touch 3GS. Also (apart from this promo), there's a
recycling program discount that allows you to get a 10 per cent discount on
any iPod you purchase when you bring in an old iPod at the same time you
purchase the new one at an Apple Store. (This doesn't work for Shuffles, and
you can't apply the discount to an iPhone, but it does work for the iPod
Touch -- in Apple Stores, only, but in the U.S., Canada, and U.K.) If you
want to join Audible.com as a new listener, you can get $100 off the purchase
price of an Audible ready device from Amazon.com, while supplies last. This
also includes the iPod Touch models (but not the iPhone). See this archived
 post for details and links:
 http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg16992.html
(iPod Recyling Program and other discounts for the iPod Touch)

Getting back to purchasing a Macbook at the Apple Store: although you can't
buy custom machines (e.g., largest, fastest hard drive), you can buy more
memory. You'll get the educational discount (not a large discount for
memory), but they'll also credit the cost of the default memory units against
the price of the new memory you buy, and install this for you before you
leave the store. This is something you may want to consider, if you're
thinking about sometime expanding memory. The new unibody models have really
small screws, and this may be well worth while for you.

Also, my experience has been that if there is any issue at all with your
Macbook or iPod, and you take it back to the Apple Store, even outside the
15-day window for returns, they'll simply swap out a new model for you rather
than making you send yours in for repairs, if they verify there's a problem
that can't easily be fixed. They'll also migrate your old system to the new
 laptop, etc. if you want.

 HTH

 Cheers,

 Esther

 Morning,

In an advocate meeting yesterday, the subject came up reference Freedom
Scientific, the company that among other things sports JFw.
Because the company is in the state of Florida, it came up on a flag by an
 analyst.
Seems this company is having bad money troubles, not surprising given the
economy, but talk is that they are now looking to sell off some of their
 division, mainly their JFW area.
I am not sure who if anyone will buy this division, considering that there
is an entity now selling a fully integrated package for only $700.
Besides a comprehensive screen reader, if the user chooses to get the
package, there is a browser, along with a customed and fully accessible web
sites, word processing, and E mail.
all of this can apparently be accessed either on line, or as individual
 program.
ad to that, the entertainment mogill, and you have a powerful tool indeed
for the kind of money they are asking for.
Another side of the equation is the apple company, now selling computers
already with speech on board right out of the box and off the shelf.
Put these two aspects together, and you have a deadly combo that might very
well result in a abrupt end to the JFW program.
Considering the way that technology is growing, older versions of JFW, will
only work for a short while until the programs controlling the OS, begins
 to
 outgrow the application.
In seeing this package, one of the things which was pointed out to me, was
the learning curve, which for the new package being sold by Mr.. Mike
 Calvo,
 is very short.
The user has the option to learn as little or as much as they want without
real loss. From: Alison Trelfa codamu...@uwclub.net
 Date: Fri, 4 Jun 2010 15:36:47 +0100

 Hello, Otto,

I wonder whether many jaws users would move to another speech program as
 yet
as many of the packages that are not standard probably wouldn't be
 supported
by the out of the box speech. I run Sonar and Sibelius 5.25, both of which
are using scripts that have been written by folk who specialise not only in
Jaws, but only in the two programs. I suppose those people who only need
computers for basic commands may well get away with speech such as you
describe, but I don't think that Jaws would just be dismissed out of hand
because Freedom is going. I think Jaws has changed hands once before if I'm
not mistaken? Correct me if I'm wrong there.

I would be very sorry to see Jaws go under, but I'm not worried yet. There
is a huge following for Jaws and I believe that someone would take it over.

 hi,

You are correct, I am just stating that from what we were told, they are
having a hard time finding someone who will take on the project, especially
since as you point out, most people are not using anything that is high
end, and from what we also have heard, people are tired of having to pay
$1500 and change, when there now is a program which will do speech and more
 for only $700.
Given the economy, for many people, the sedition may be financial.

uninstall it. I just went tot he windows instructions, read them,
followed them, and thats how I get my captchas solved. I would suggest
that you do the same, this way you do not have to use the command
line. The down side to this method would be that you do not know if
you have actually pasted the picture into your paint program or
similar for the mac, but trust me, if you pressed the keys, the
computer did it. I will write a tutorial on this, up it will come in

You should use a card reader to transfer files to the SD card, it is

TIP: The Best Way to Shove That MacBook Pro In Your Ear!

 Hello Everyone,

As a low vision Windows 7 and Mac Snow Leopard user, I access computers via
a screen reader (JAWS) for Windows 7 and (VoiceOver) for Mac Snow Leopard.

I also happen to be a very satisfied user of iPhone 3GS.

Included with the iPhone 3GS, at the time of purchase, is a very nice set of
Apple branded stereo earphones with inline 3-button remote control and
microphone. This included headset can be used to remotely control iPhone
3GS volume level, dialing feature, and iPod App.

Since the release of iPhone 3GS, I have damaged the microphone on at least
three sets of these headsets by various sundry accidents including getting
 the microphone wet.

The other day, while opening yet another pair of Apple iPhone 3GS earphones,
I decided to attach the older pair to my MacBook Pro.

What do you think I discovered? You're right! The inline remote control
acts just like it does on my iPhone 3GS; that is, the volume buttons work to
change the volume level of the MacBook Pro and the middle button will open
iTunes. When iTunes is playing media, the headset inline remote control
functions to navigate the playback just as it does on the iPhone 3GS.

As a bonus, even when running Windows 7 in VM Ware's Fusion, the inline
remote volume buttons continue to function normally.

So, go ahead and shove that iPhone 3GS 3-button inline remote control
headset with Microphone, attached to your MacBook Pro, in your ear.

 Enjoy,

 Mark

Re: A DVD Remaster Question

2010-06-03 Thread Courtney Curran
Hi,
Thanks again, I got a homemade DVD ripped, and it worked great, but when I went
to rip a store-bought one, it only ripped part. It sounds like a setting I
might have to fix. I'll play with it and let everyone know.

Yes, definitely. I will do a podcast on how to do this. I have laryngitis at
the moment. But as soon as my voice clears up I will. I'll post the steps
here for you and anyone else who may be curious.

Instructions on Extracting audio from DVDs using Ripit and DVD Remaster
 1. Insert DVD and start Ripit.
 2. Open Ripit and select Rip. Be sure to set the destination folder before
you do this. I believe the default destination is movies, but I am not sure.
 3. Click the rip button.
 4. After the DVD is ripped, you will hear a sound like a bell.
 5. Close Ripit and eject the DVD.
 6. Open DVD Remaster. Load the DVD media document that Ripit just ripped. by
 clicking the source button.
 7. Click Export tab and select the audio format to extract to. Again, as is
in Ripit, you can select the destination folder. Once your audio is
extracted, you will hear the same bell sound you heard in the Ripit
Application. Due to popular demand, I will post the podcast on the Gwennacast
 page. I hope this helps.

The mac book pro has an aluminum unibody case and has TI firewire as well as
an sd card slot. you can get them with Intel core 2 duo processors, or,
I6/I7 processors, depending on how much you want to spend. they start with
4 gigs of ram on the less expensive models. The mac book pro starts at
$1199 US. I have the mac book pro 15 inch intel I5 model and it is an
 amazing machine!

The mac book air is the lightest and the thinnest of the lot and has a solid
state hard drive. They come with Intel core 2 duo processors and 2 gigs of
ram. It lacks a cd/dvd combo drive. It is also the lightest. The air
 starts at $1499 US.

There are other differences, but, that gives you a rough idea of the
differences between the three lines of mac books.

Check out the apple site to compare models further.

Well, you could delete the app, although there's probably no need but go
ahead if you'd like. Quit the app if it's running. Under Library/preferences
in your home directory start typing com.yo and you should land on the
 preference file. Delete that

Then go into application support under library and delete its directory in
there. Delete the entry in keychain as well if it's there and then try to
rerun the app. Obviously, you'll have to reenter the login stuff, since it
won't be there since you've just deleted its preferences. Do that, then quit
and try running it again and see if that helps.

If that doesn't work I honestly don't know what will.

You certainly can extract the audio with mpeg streamclip. Not mp3, no, but
either aiff or m4a works fine. Just use the export audio option.

Once you've got an m4a file, you can probably use some other app to convert

Re: Editing audio with Amadeus Pro?

Thank you so much. If you want to do a podcast that would be cool.
Thanks,
Courtney
On 30/05/2010, at 12:14 in the Afternoon, Allison Manzino wrote:

 Hi Courtney,

Yes, I love Amadeus and use it a lot. You can open the file in Amadeus by
opening Amadeus and hitting command O. THis will bring up the folders list on
the hard drive. From there you can select the source file you'd like to edit
as I believe Amadeus calls it. Erik Caron did a wonderful and informative
podcast on Blind Cool Tech's website. You can scroll and fastforward through
the file by taking these steps.
 1. Once the file is
open, hit VO F5 and then VO command F5. This will place you in the scroll
 area.
 2. THen hit VO shift space which will place the VO cursor and mouse in the
scroll area. THis needs to happen to place markers and delete content from
the file. you can fastforward through the file by hitting right arrow. You
can rewind by hitting left arrow.
 3. to place a marker you can hit command shift M. If you do it this way, and
you are trying to edit commercials you have to mess with the playhead and the
insertion point. Erik explains why in his podcast. The easier way to place a
marker and not worry about where your VO cursor is in relation to your mouse
cursor is to hit the letter P as in Paul where you want your markers.

let's say you have marked where all the commercials are in your file and you
want to delete only the commercials. To jump to markers you hit option and
right arrow. Then you can hit delete and it should delete the marker and the
content that was marked. I use this method all the time to edit files. I'd
suggest placing a marker at the starting point of the commercials and then
when the program comes back on. If you do this for all occurrences of the
commercials, you can delete them very easily by doing option right arrow, and
then hitting command right arrow. This will extend the selection to the next
marker so when you hit delete it will delete the content between the two
markers. I hope I haven't confused you. I know it sounds confusing at first,
but once you try it it's really simple. If anyone would like, I can do a
podcast demonstrating this. Have a great day.

All you have to do is export audio.

Just open mpeg streamclip with the file and select export audio. It'll give
you a couple of dialog boxes to fill in and you're done.

Re: No sound after conversion with Mpeg Stream Clip

2010-05-30 Thread Courtney Curran
Hi,
I think I fixed the problem, I think it was coming through with no sound
because it was purchased from Itunes. That's my theory because I downloaded a
video with Tooble and then converted it with Mpeg Stream Clip and it worked
flawlessly. What does everybody think, could this be the issue?

It sounds like, when you first installed the app, you said no when it asked

said, try deleting the entry from keychain altogether. Failing that,
completely uninstall the app, deleting prefs and files and such, and rerun
it. Other than that, I dunno.

Coming into the middle of this thread, I have to assume you all are running

nothing to do with the type of keyboard you are using. Finally you may try
resetting VO back to the defaults or you can kill the VO preference files and
set things up again from scratch. Hope those sounds return.

Not really, no. You could try going into your keychain using the keychain
access application. It might be under utilities. See if it's got an entry in
the login keychain. If it does, maybe try deleting it. If it doesn't I'm
 honestly not sure.

The only other thing to try would be to delete its preference and support
files. They should be under library/preferences and library/application
 support somewhere.
