about the notifications, you can go to your syste preferences, then you can shoos what kind of notifications you want to show when you receive on your computer. about the printinter, when i attach my epson computer to my mac, it automatically detects the driver and install it. On 11 Jul 2015, at 9:21 AM, Dewald Gmail dewaldvandeven...@gmail.com wrote: Hi all. My name is Dewald. I am from South Africa. Jonathan Mosen recommended me to this list. I am a piano technician and love to tinker with technology. I got my first Mac in December of last year through a Black Friday deal on Best Buy. I was still in the US by that time. Anyway ... I have some questions, because I'm still new to using it, but yet, I have turned my back on Windows for good. When I start up my Mac, or just waking it up from sleeping, it says 3 system dialogues. And it will repeat it a couple of times. Sometimes it's 1 system dialogue, or two or three system dialogues. What is this? About the notification center: do I have to go in there from time to time and clean up, or is there a way for it to do it automatically? Whichever app I use, I don't know if it is my internet connection or what, but like using something that doesn't even need a connection it will say busy busy busy, ready. Very irritating. They say you can press command-tab to switch between windows. Mine, when i press the combination, it just makes a dunk sound. So I don't know if it's only me, but, I have to press the combination, then release, to give it time to focuss or something, and then I can hold in the command key and press tab repeatedly to cycle between windows. And last for now, do any of you use Scrivener successfully? Is it possible and can someone email me off-list to help. Thank you very very much for any help. I am so excited about my Mac and all the things I can do with it. Just a short amuzing story. I was living with two room mates in Vancouver WA, The one guy had an HP printer, copier and scanner. I had an HP pc trying to connect to this thing, wanting to print something. I spent hours trying to find the right driver, and no matter how I tried to install it, it ended up giving me an error. While I was wondering what I could do, the other guy came with his Mac, connected it to the HP printer, and I promise you, a few seconds later, the machine was spitting out paper. I was dum-founded. You would think: HP to HP ... easy, right? That sold me to get a Mac. And also of course that it came with Voiceover. Amazing! Thank you, God bless, Dewald. Facebook Games and Apps often entice users into inviting all of their friends to participate as well, frequently by offering rewards within the game/app itself. So even your most well-meaning friends may give into temptation and send you a game request. This brief guide will take you step by step through the ways to block those requests. 1. There are two ways to block Facebook Game or App requests - wait until you get one, or pro-actively add some of the most popular ones. We'll show you how to do both. When do you receive a request to play a game, click it (which seems like the last thing you'd want to do, but trust us on this one). 2. You'll be presented with a confirmation screen, which will vary in look based on the game. Regardless, as soon as that screen appears, click the Cancel button. 3. After clicking Cancel, Facebook will redirect you to that games Page. On this Page, click the 3 dot button ( . . . ) located on the far right side of the Cover photo (see screenshot below). 4. A 'drop-down' menu will appear. From that menu, click Block App 5. Another confirmation window will appear. Review it and click Confirm 6. That's it! No one will be able to send you requests to play that specific Game or App ever again. The other way to block Facebook game requests is to manually add them. slowing down my computer while using iMovie

So, in Disk Utility, select your HD, then the Partition tab ,Interact with the list of partitions, and VO-shift-space to simulate the mouse-click on the second partition. Stop interacting with the list of partitions then enter 50 into the Edit field for that partition and apply the change. This will make the second partition the correct size and leave the remainder as free space. You should then be able to select your Macintosh HD partition in the same manner and resize it. this is where my memory is failing me. I seem to recall that I had to do something special to make it use up the free space but I can't remember what I did at this point. It is totally doable using Terminal with the diskutil resize command if you feel like using the command line but should be doable in Disk Utility as well. Later... Of course, security updates will continue to be released for years to come, but I’d say you’re likely to get better performance and a better experience with Windows 8.1. The “start screen” is really the only interface that, in my view, you might find intimidating. Aside from that, you basically can use Windows and your desktop apps precisely as you did before. You can ignore the Windows Store and the new “modern apps” entirely if you don’t like them. Microsoft has a support page dedicated to Boot Camp with a link to where you can buy Windows from the Microsoft Store. They actually still refer to “Windows 7” on that page, but the link takes you to an order page for Windows 8.1. Here is the link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2647609 If you really and truly want Windows 7, retail copies are no longer being sold and haven’t been for years but you could do a Google search for ideas. Certainly, if you already have a retail license, you’re permitted to transfer it to another PC. Apple has a detailed support page on Boot Camp which I would recommend perusing, as the instructions for what to do will differ if your Macbook Pro is an older model of computer. On modern Macs, you can simply run the Boot Camp Assistant app from the Finder, by pressing CMD+SHIFT+A to bring up the Applications folder, selecting Utilities folder, then running Boot Camp Assistant. It’ll guide you through creating a USB drive with Windows and the appropriate support software that lets Windows run on Mac hardware. You’ll have to have the Windows installation file in .ISO format, which you can download during the order process. The Boot Camp Assistant will assist you in repartitioning your hard drive, so there’s an extra partition for Windows, of the size you specify. You will then boot into the Windows Installer, which isn’t too intimidating these days. Simply select the “Boot Camp” partition created earlier, let Windows format it, then install Windows to that partition as you normall y would. Sighted help would be important here, as the Windows installer doesn’t speak and there’s no audio support until the very end. Of course, this is hardly a detailed set of instructions, so let us know if you need further clarification on anything. If you’re only going to do this once, or occasionally, an assistant might make the process easier. Re: how to use windows on mac
i think i'll give up using windows on vm ware. i think i should use bootcamp instead. On 01 May 2015, at 10:50 pm, Grant Hardy grant.li...@icloud.com wrote: You don’t really have to turn off VoiceOver, but it’s generally best if you do. This is mainly due to the fact that VO specific keystrokes, and in fact any keystrokes where CONTROL and OPTION are held down, won’t be passed to Windows. For example, if you have CONTROL+ALT+J set up to open up your Windows screen reader, that command won’t work while VoiceOver is on because the system will interpret that key as a VoiceOver command. In general you can use Windows exactly the same way that you normally would. The COMMAND KEY acts as your WINDOWS KEY, while the OPTION KEY acts as your ALT KEY. This includes installing your screen reader any normal way that you usually would, such as downloading an executable file, opening File Explorer, navigating to the folder where that executable file is stored, then hit ENTER to start the install. The only thing you’ll probably have to do is remap one of the keys on your keyboard to act as your screen reading key, because CAPS LOCK doesn’t get passed through to your virtual machine by default. The common practice has been to remap a key like the GRAVE ACCENT KEY to become an INSERT KEY, which you can do in VMWare’s preferences. As well, with third party software you can also use the CAPS LOCK KEY as your screen reading key, a method I’ve covered recently on this list. If you search the archives, you can find information about both of these methods. If you’re stuck, feel free to reply and we’ll provide more information. I have really been meaning to document all of this in an article or something so it’s easy to find. I got started with VMWare mostly with trial and error until I found what works best.
