Eric:
I finally got onyx to work. Here’s what I had to do:
Go to system preferences., Go to security and privacy. Then, interact with
a table until you get to something like allow access. Then, you add onyx to
allow the disk access. Once you do that, onyx will work.

Mac cleaner

2021-07-09 Thread ernest mccullough
hello:
Can anyone recommend an excellent, free Mac cleaner? I am currently using
the Catalina operating system. I used to love the onyx cleaner under El
Capitan, however, when I install it on Catalina, it just says, onyx has no
windows, which is strange to me. Looking forward to hearing some
recommendations.
Best,
Ernest.

The Mac oes have a safe mode feature. It loads only the necessary drivers

turning on your Mac. It will take a while to load, but voiceover will work.

 Hi all,

this morning SiriusXM released an update to their IOS app, and the
accessibility is very much improved. You can now sync favorite stations
across devices, search for channels by name or channel number, view
recents, and the bottom row of buttons is now labeled. The skip button at

the top is also now labeled. Just thought some might want to know.
 Cheers,

Re: Numbers Question

2015-01-31 Thread ernest mccullough
Hello: For excellent mastery of the iWork suite, may I suggest mastering the
Macintosh with voiceover. You can download it from the iBooks store. It’s
wonderful.

Regards,

Ernest.
On Jan 31, 2015, at 6:07 PM, Phil Halton philh...@gmail.com wrote:

 Hi Emilio,
I use Numbers now on a daily basis and it has completely replaced Excel for
all my spreadsheet work. In a lot of ways it is easier and more accessible
than excel with JAWS. The big thing that you’ll have to get used to coming
from Excel is the way numbers handles data. In excel, a sheet is one large
grid of cells that you can organize your data on in the form of lists,
tables, etc. Then you navigate around the sheet to move to your various data
 lists and tables.

In numbers, you don’t have one big open sheet with a vast array of cells.
Instead you place data objects on a “canvas” and store your data in those
objects. These objects are usually in the form of tables which act much like
a list in excel. I hope that makes sense.

you expand and contract the size of the tables as needed to accommodate new
data rows and columns. You can have up to five header rows, header columns
and footer rows along with unlimited data rows and columns in a table, and
numbers does a good job of automatically keeping everything organized. Also,
Working with formulas is a pleasure once you get the hang of the formula
 editor.

I don’t know of any tutorials, but a good thorough reading of the help
system, and referring to it often along with your existing knowledge of
spreadsheeting will get you up and running. Spend some time just
experimenting with setting up tables and doing simple formula work for a
while before trying to convert your excel stuff over to numbers.

Like I said, I was a die-hard Excel user but I actually like numbers better
now. It handles everything I can throw at it and now all my Excel
spreadsheets are converted over to numbers tables. (of course, I had to tweet
things quite a bit to make that happen)

For $20 I don’t think you can go wrong. Just be prepared to spend some time
 on the learning curve.

Numbers is at least, if not more accessible with VO than is Excel with Jaws.
It just has some different data storage concepts that you need to understand.
 Good Luck

In any case, setting a paragraph style is easy enough. Click the Paragraph

Re: GarageBand

Thank you so much Grant.

Hi Ernest, you could always install Yosemite on a separate partition first to
try it out, or even on removable media (keeping in mind that things will feel

I don’t have any experience with anything earlier than OS X Mavericks, but I
will say that Yosemite was an excellent upgrade for me in terms of
accessibility. Specifically, the improvements to web browsing with VO have
really made a difference. My understand is that accessibility with iWork is
much improved now from earlier versions. Unfortunately I can’t comment on the
iLife apps like Garage Band, and therefore don’t really have an answer to
 your original question.

There certainly are bugs with Yosemite, and I can’t comment on how it might
run on older machines, but in general I think there’s much more to love than
there are problems. Some of the bugs are summarized on applevis.com if you
wish to make sure there’s nothing that will disrupt your workflow. There
shouldn’t be too much risk in backing up with Time Machine and then grabbing
the free upgrade to see how it runs. If you really need to, you can always go
 back.

 Cheers,

A smart mailbox is just a stored search function. It can search one or more

Working with mail

2014-04-14 Thread ernest mccullough
Hello:
For now, I'd like to know how to do two things.
1.
How do you make messages from a specific individual go to another mailbox?
2.
How do you create a signature to put at the bottom of your messages?
Thanks so much in advance.

You can create mail rules in Mail preferences (command-comma). You can cause
messages with certain criteria to go into different mailboxes. First, create
your new mailbox by going into the Mailboxes menu. Then create your rule by
pressing the rules button in preferences and reviewing and changing the
 criteria.

Signatures are also created in preferences. Press the signatures button in
preferences and first name the signature, then enter the text for it. In
each mail message you compose, there will be a drop-down menu for using a
signature. I have multiple ones and use random.

 Happy wekend all!
Does anyone out there know how to work with Garage Band?
I am trying to throw a little jingle together and when I add different
sounds they all get placed at the same point in the timeline so they all
play at once. It's not even the beginning either. There is like 15
seconds of silence then all the noise.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to write me off list.

I have had some requests for a file on Pages. I did a podcast a while back
and wanted to give you teh direct link. This will take you to the page where
you can listen to it or download it. The link is:

I would also be happy to help in any way I can with Pages. Anne Robertson
knows a lot more than I, but I'd still be happy to offer what help I can. My
Skype name is allie5810. I also started a new blog that will chronicle my
trip to Spain as far as accessibility and blindness issues, possibly the use
of the Mac over there. It is much more popular than it is here in the
states. But I think it is just catching on. If you want to subscribe to my
blog or check it out the link is:

Subject: Pages for shannon

Hi SHannon,

I had been previously using Microsoft Word and migrated to Pages. I love it,
it does the same things that MS word does, just in a different way. Beweare
of the header and footer in Pages. When you have a Pages document opened,
you might have to interact with what is called the layout area. If you VO
and right arrow you will hear Header, if you VO right arrow again you will
hear body, that is the one you want to place all the text in. You might also
have to interact with say for example you have a 10-page document. You might
have to interact with page 2 or 3 if you want to see page two or three. THe
layout rea allows you to scroll through pages quickly. I hope this wasn't
confusing. It sounds confusing, but I can make you a sound file if you like.
That might explain it better. I think of the documents from pages as broken
in to three sections. Headers at the top, body, and then footer at the
bottom. If you interact with each element you can do different things. I
hope this helps.

Allison
