How do the toggle buttons work in Apple mail? What does Toggle mailbox do for
example and how is it activated?

thanks.

Apple mail in catalina

What do I need to do to set up my mail in Catalina closest to classic view? Do
I want column view or not? Also I want to separate my 2 mailboxes. Currently
everything’s all in one inbox.

Re: Apple mail in Catalina

2020-11-25 Thread Brad Snyder
Hi Lorie,

Congratulations on successfully installing macOS Catalina.

I have not found a use for the filter at the top of the message list. It seems
to report how mail is sorted, but serves no other purpose that I can tell
To change sort order of items in the message list, go to:
MenuBar > View > Sort By, where you can select Date. In this menu, you can
also select if you want the newest or oldest message on top.

Also, there is no longer Classic View in Catalina’s Mail app. If this is your
preference, you will want to go to the View menu as above, and enable Column
View, which is pretty much the same as the old Classic View.

HTH.

Re: Question please regarding Apple mail in Catalina

2020-03-22 Thread John Panarese
Hi Brad,
I’ll have to mess with this in Catalina. I know in passed versions of the
OS, there were inconsistencies in how Notification settings effected actual
apps. This might actually solve my own problems with Mail notifications.

Re: Question please regarding Apple mail in Catalina

2020-03-22 Thread Brad Snyder
Hi Donna,

While Classic view is not available in Catalina, there is a similar alternative
called Column layout, that can be enabled from within the View menu, in the
Menu Bar of the Mail app.

The preview pane that appears either below or to the right of the mailbox
content area can be disabled as follows:
1. With VoiceOver focus on the mailbox content area, VO + Right Arrow one time
to place focus on the splitter. If the preview pane is set to appear below the
mailbox content area, this is a horizontal splitter.
2. Use VO + SHIFT + Down Arrow to interact with the splitter.
3. Once you have interacted with the horizontal splitter, use VO + Down Arrow
to set the splitter to 100%, which totally collapses the splitter and
eliminates the preview pane altogether.
4. Use VO + SHIFT + Up Arrow to stop interacting with the splitter, and you
are done.

HTH

Re: Question please regarding Apple mail in Catalina

2020-03-22 Thread Brad Snyder
I believe the correct resolution to this issue is within Notification
preferences. By default, Catalina displays a banner notification that briefly
appears in the upper right corner of the screen for each incoming mail item.
When this banner appears, it is read aloud by VoiceOver. This can be disabled
in Notification preferences, while allowing both the incoming mail sound and
badge app icon number to continue.

Oh good! I would also hate being interrupted by VO reading previews for

Thank you John. I’ve made the change as you suggested. Not sure why I wasn’t
able to read the title of each item under the general pane. I needed to have a
sighted person tell me which one was the notification item. VoiceOver only said
“inbox only”. I only heard the actual setting, and not what they referred to.

2020-03-22 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

I have not yet upgraded to Catalina, but am considering doing so, since I find
myself with time on my hands. I currently use the classic view in Mail, and
have preview disabled. I know we lose classic view in Catalina, but is there a
way to disable the preview?

Re: Question please regarding Apple mail in Catalina

2020-03-22 Thread John Panarese
You can go into Mail Preferences in the general pane and choose to have
notifications only come with VIPs or another mailbox. By default, the inbox is
the selected mailbox in which new messages are read. This is an option I have
always wished the VoiceOver user could adjust to their own preferences.

Question please regarding Apple mail in Catalina

2020-03-22 Thread Paul Parravano
I am a new Catalina user. While reading messages in Apple mail, I am
interrupted regularly by VoiceOver reading previews of newly arriving messages.
Any way to stop this disruptive behavior?

Many thanks,

Paul
