Color Replacement for the Mac
Hello, I'm working in a Mac driven workplace and they're trying to move some of their visually impaired agents up to the newer software they use. However, they are having a hard time changing the fonts, some kind of conflict. What I wanted to know was whether or not there was a program that can change the screen colors like ZoomText can. I've found Nocturne and Blacklight which tint the screen, but it may not be enough for some of the agents. I really need a program that will replace colors with others. Also, the in-house software that they are using is web-based, Firefox specifically (not sure if it works well with other browsers). If I could find a similar program that only worked on the web that would be okay as well. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Hello, This really isn't my field, but have you looked at VisioVoice from Assistiveware? Many low-vision Mac users swear by it. www.assistiveware.com Cheers, Anne On Jun 21, 2010, at 2:41 PM, KeelhaulChris wrote: Hello, I'm working in a Mac driven workplace and they're trying to move some of their visually impaired agents up to the newer software they use. Re: Color Replacement for the Mac
Not sure if there is an app to change screen colours like zoomtext, have you tried writing to accessibil...@apple.com? as for the Firefox bit, you could create your own CSS which you get Firefox to use instead of the CSS that is on your web server. Re: Color Replacement for the Mac
I don't think VisioVoice has what I need, but it is good to know about it. It might help some other people I am working with. I'll shoot apple an email, but in the mean time, do you know a good site or resource that can help explain that CSS editing with Firefox you were talking about. Do you have to have a plug-in to do that or does Firefox have a built in feature for it? It sounds like it might help as long as I don't run into the same problems the other tech guys had changing the fonts. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Color Replacement for the Mac
All web browsers have the accessibility feature of being able to use an external CSS (Case Cascading Stylesheet) You could import your existing style sheet into a stylesheet creator for something like Adobe Dreamweaver and just change the font and save it under a different name. I've found Nocturne and Blacklight which tint the screen, but it may not be enough for some of the agents. OS X has a built-in ability to invert all the colors on the display. Press Command-Option-Control-8 to invert all the colors and press it again to uninvert them. I'm not sure how this compares to Nocture or Blacklight, but maybe this will work for some of your colleagues. Also, the in-house software that they are using is web-based, Firefox specifically (not sure if it works well with other browsers). If I could find a similar program that only worked on the web that would be okay as well. Accessible Firefox themes might help with the Firefox interface itself, although they won't affect the webpages: http://www.accessfirefox.org/Firefox_Accessibility_Themes.php If worst came to worst, you could certainly build your own custom CSS, but that could require a fair bit of CSS knowledge. Before doing that, try just enforcing your own color choices via Firefox's options, via Preferences, Content tab, Colors button, untick Allow pages to choose their own colors. This is not foolproof as it turns of background images, which are erroneously used as content images by some websites. Hope that helps. -- Benjamin Hawkes-Lewis -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group.
