Re: Download PDF in Safari instead of Opening

2019-11-17 Thread Ronald van Rhijn
Hi

If the save as option of the context menu doesn’t work, just open the linked
pdf. Then when the pdf is opened in Safari, place the focus in the addressfield
and push option+return. The pdf file is then saved to downloads.

Ronald

Re: Download PDF in Safari instead of Opening

2019-11-16 Thread Lorie McCloud
if you get the link for a pdf in your email it can be a problem. in my
experience, if I click the link it opens Safari and goes to the linked page
which is the pdf. there doesn't seem to be a way to download it from email
which is something I used to do in Windows xp with Thunderbird.I once asked
about this while talking to Apple Accessibility and the tech told me to press
vo-shift-m for the context menu and arrow down to "export as pdf". if you hit
enter on that it'll ask you where you want to save it and then tab down and
save it there. that's the only way I know of to do it.

I want PDF documents to download automatically instead of opening inside

I’m probably misunderstanding what you’re trying to do, but if you want to
download a file that is linked, then position the vo cursor on the link, then
bring up the context menu with VO plus shift plus M and select download linked
file. That’s what I did just the other day to download several PDF and EPUB
files. they will appear in your downloads folder which can be accessed by
pressing option plus command plus L. Good luck.

Hi,
Here is the steps I take.
Once safari opens the PDF, go to the file menu and save as PDF.
And on the iPhone once the PDF is open, go to the share menu and save to iCloud
or DropBox.

Hi Jeff,

Have you tried;
Export as pdf?
its under the file menu when in Safari.
When I want to get a permanent copy of the pdf that has opened in safari i use
this.
Then I end up opening it up in ghost reader to put in book marks if I half to
study it.

Funny, that didn’t work either. I wonder if the link that I am trying to
download the pdf through is not an actual pdf and rather a script to generate
one—although I would have thought the result would be the same.

Re: Download PDF in Safari instead of Opening

2019-11-16 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

If you are focused on a link, press option-return to download the linked item.
You can then open it in preview from your downloads folder. I realize that
isn’t exactly what you are looking for, but it may work in the meantime.

 Later...

Download PDF in Safari instead of Opening

2019-11-16 Thread Jeff Berwick
Hi all,

Trying to get my new Mac back to how my old Mac works, but can’t crack this nut.

I’ve been all over the internet, but the suggestions are not working for me.

I want PDF documents to download automatically instead of opening inside Safari.

I’ve unchecked the open safe files after downloading checkbox in general
preferences and even run the following Terminal command:

defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool YES

I’ve restarted to see if that might help, but nothing.

Any other suggestions?

Thx
Jeff
