Re: Possible workaround to Safari5 Problems

2010-06-11 Thread Barry Hadder
Hi,

Glad it's working for you.

In my case, it seems to help, but it's still less than desirable. I have found
however, that if I shut down vo, refresh the page, then what a few seconds
before starting vo, I think I'm letting what ever loads to do whatever it's
doing before I start trying to read the page. So far, it has worked every time.

For what it's worth, Safari has worked like a charm ever since I unchecked the
"web" setting in VO utilities that says "move the voiceover cursor to it when
loading a web page". I've done no other modifications except resetting Safari,
so I'm not sure how much of a factor that is.

Re: Possible workaround to Safari5 Problems

2010-06-11 Thread Barry Hadder
Hi,

It doesn't solve the problem. It fixes it so that refreshing the page works
80% of the time.

There is something else that I've been doing and it has worked every time for
me. When you go to audible.com, shut down vo, refresh the page, and wait for
several seconds. Then restart vo and find the html content. I've found this
to be very reliable.
Hope this helps.

Hi. I think that if you turned on java after navigating away from the main

signing in, but once I tabbed around and opened another link I was fine. Try

problem I was having on the audible site. ichat is still messed up, but at
least it sbetter than it was. Hoping for a fix soon.

I have that first box you mentioned checked and I don't have any problems

Re: Possible workaround to Safari5 Problems

2010-06-09 Thread Barry Hadder
Ok, I've tried this atleast 20 times so I'll pass along this tip.

In voiceover utility, go to web and uncheck the box that says "Move the
VoiceOver cursor to it When loading a new webpage:". I also have the speak
webpage and speak summary unchecked. Now, when you have that problem you can
refresh the page and have no problems.

As I said, this has been very consistent for me, but now that I posted it, I
wouldn't be surprised if it blows up in my face.

Without that first box I mentioned unchecked, the page refresh doesn't seem to
work.

2010-06-09 Thread Mary Otten
As posted yesterday, I have tried rolling back to Safari 4 via time machine,
and I have all my same problems that were introduced with 5. I deleted webkit
as well, thinking that might be causing some problem. Still no joy. I thought
rolling back to a previous app was one of the things time machine was used for.
What can I do to get 4 back until the mess with 5 is fixed?

2010-06-09 Thread Dónal Fitzpatrick
HI,

I haven't updated yet, and based on the feedback from the list I don't plan to.
However, for those of you who experiencing problems, are there any odd/unusual
entries in the system logs, or other log files?

If so, this content might be very useful to Apple in their attempts to debug,
recreate and (hopefully) solve the issue.

The fact that so many of you are experiencing the same issue means it should be
relatively straightforward to reproduce.

Cheers

Re: Possible workaround to Safari5 Problems

2010-06-09 Thread Doug Lawlor
It seems like Apple did not do the testing with VO that they should have done
before releasing this.

Re: Possible workaround to Safari5 Problems

2010-06-09 Thread Barry Hadder
The only thing that seems to work consistently is to disable java script
entirely and that is a lousy thing to have to do. It's definitely a java
script issue. I wanted to mention some things that keep throwing me off in
making me think that it's fixed. When I disable something in the develop menu,
the Safari screen is completely blank to vo. I have to refresh the page and
restart vo. after that everything is fine until I close the browser, and even
then it might work two or three times. I just got Audible to work three times
in a row.

In any event, sf 5 is full of problems. I don't recommend anyone update. As I
posed previously, I've had the same think happen on an Apple support page.

Re: Possible workaround to Safari5 Problems

2010-06-09 Thread Barry Hadder
Well, you are right. I tried it several times before I posted that and it
worked fine every time. I just tried it again and it doesn't. Very
frustrating.
I'm disappointed that something like this got through to safari5 final release.

2010-06-09 Thread Doug Lawlor

Hello, I have done what you described below and VO is still restarting here
when I access Audible's site. I honestly don't think a web site should be
restarting your screen reader. Has this been reported to Apple Accessibility?

Thanks,

Possible workaround to Safari5 Problems

2010-06-08 Thread Barry Hadder
Ok everybody,

This seems to work, but it's just a work-around as doing this can still cause
problems in some situations. Check the "Disable Run away Java script Timer"
option in the develop menu. You can turn on the develop menu in the advanced
tab of Safari preferences.

This seems to fix the problem and leaves the javascript functionality in tact.
