2023-02-20 Thread maurice A. Mines
Good afternoon, if you're talking about your Mac you can move the
program from applications to the trash. If you have to clear it your
system will ask you to enter your password or use touch ID if you have a
machine that has a touch bar. I hope this helps?

Sincerely Maurice Mines.

Please be aware, that I am dictating this to a virtual Windows machine.
I hope this turns out ok?

Re: Firefox on the Mac somewhat works now.

2020-07-07 Thread Jonathan Cohn
OK, some step forward and some back.
1. Firefox 78 current version does not seem to support
• Read Current character, word, sesentence, or line.
• The rotar still does not work.
• item list might work, NY TImes home page brought up about 90 items.
• Navigation commands to specific heading levels, font change, underlined text,
bold text did not work.

Even more discouraging, Firefox nightly 80 currently is back to only reading
where focus is, the rest of the web page is completely invisible to VoiceOVer.

Re: Firefox on the Mac somewhat works now.

2020-07-07 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I just downloaded Firefox 78 which will become the next ESR version of Firefox
and hopefully I can see these rotors in action there. It would be disappointing
if the ESR version gets stuck with only partial VoiceOver support as
enterprises will be using it for at least a year forward.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

At this time voiceover just says there are no menu options available
for each category, I think that support will be coming later this year.

Original message:
SO DOES THE ROTOR BRING UP NOTHING IN ANY CATEGORY, OR NOTHING AT all

This is very encouraging.
I hope they continue to work at this because it would be always nice to have
another browser option.

Re: firefox on the mac

2015-03-16 Thread Jessica Moss
Has anyone had any luck with webvisum on the mac? I tried a while back when it
was more accessible to use it, and checked all the checkboxes someone on here
recommended, which I unfortunately can't remember what those are now, sense
it's been ages, and nothing would stick.
they always kept unchecking again, so never could get them to stay the way I
left them, so it never would work for me, and couldn't get rumola to autofill
the captcha on a particular site that I go to for my job, so have to use my PC
to go there, which I don't want to have to keep doing.

Re: Firefox on the Mac

2012-07-10 Thread Harry Hogue
I will add that the reason your student has been told to use Firefox with
Blackboard is probably because of compatibility with the Blackboard system.
Ideally, most university websites and related services (e.g. Blackboard) will
use Internet Explorer, which I am almost certain has very little support for
VoiceOver.
I hope this helps,
Harry

Re: Firefox on the Mac

2012-07-10 Thread Kirsten Edmondson
Hi,

I use Safari or Google Chrome on the Mac to access blackboard, both of these
are fine and there are no issues. I was of the understanding that Firefox does
not yet work other than a beyta version on the map, although I am looking
forward to the day when it does properly. For blackboard it is probably best to
use Safari for now, as although chrome is good, it's not totally there yet.
Though chrome is probably second to Firefox currently. But please someone
correct me if Firefox is fully available and accessible, because I would like
to use Firefox myself if it is usable now.

Google Chrome was, Re: Firefox on the Mac

Hi, I wasn't aware that Google Chrome worked on the Mac with VoiceOver; I
thought only Safari was fully accessible with VoiceOver. It's nice to know
that other options are becoming more accessible, at least. I know with JAWS,
you could only really count on IE, which I, personally, always hated.

Adding to this, I think it better now that own companies make there products
accessible in this case web browsers. Rather than waiting and depending on
special scripts to built for the programme.
I too will look forward to firefox becoming accessible on the Mac. Apparently
there biggest bug at present is the annoying yes I guess people can guess it…
the wonderful BUSY MESSAGES! Ah they drive me mad!!! After that herbal I hope
it won't be long because at present I would boldly say that its not worth using
at the moment. LOL My MBP late 2011 13 inch really starts to get warm when I
use the browser! Of course this is just me others may have different opinions.

Re: firefox on a mac?

2010-01-13 Thread Chris Hofstader
Mozilla is able to get some support for OpenOffice using an accessibility layer
built into Gecko. I don't know how this could effect Firefox but one might
guess that their UI common library should work at least as well as OO.

OO is weird on Mac. Because of the gecko common UI layer, it can't support Mac
services as the application is kept a step away from the OS by gecko. Common
UI libraries seem to make porting easier but they never seem to get everything
right on any of the target platforms.

Re: firefox on a mac?

2010-01-11 Thread Chris Blouch
Your explanation seems correct but I would tweak it to say that the
Mozilla contributors have already written the 'glue' code that connects
Firefox to the accessibility APIs on Linux or Windows. Each of those
platforms has its own accessibility framework just like the Mac. There
just hasn't been a set of deep pockets to fund the Mac dev work like on
the other platforms and volunteers so far have not made it happen.
Following the money trail is a bit difficult but I suspect IBM funded
much of the IAccessible2 work and Google probably chipped in on MSAA. If
Apple sprinkled some dollars or people resources in the right place I
would guess that FF would get happy with voiceover. Of course as the
sole developer of Safari, I'm not sure how much Apple would be motivated
to put resources into Firefox.

Re: firefox on a mac?

2010-01-11 Thread James Nash
Well I would be happy to help with Firefox once i get up to scratch on
programming, although I am only just starting out. It will take me some time I
suspect before I am able to offer my help to projects like Firefox.

Your explanation seems correct but I would tweak it to say that the Mozilla
contributors have already written the 'glue' code that connects Firefox to
the accessibility APIs on Linux or Windows. Each of those platforms has its
own accessibility framework just like the Mac. There just hasn't been a set
of deep pockets to fund the Mac dev work like on the other platforms and
volunteers so far have not made it happen. Following the money trail is a bit
difficult but I suspect IBM funded much of the IAccessible2 work and Google
probably chipped in on MSAA. If Apple sprinkled some dollars or people
resources in the right place I would guess that FF would get happy with
voiceover. Of course as the sole developer of Safari, I'm not sure how much
Apple would be motivated to put resources into Firefox.

As far as I am aware, the situation is as follows:

Because Firefox is a cross-platform browser, it has been very difficult for
the developers to make the browser accessible to Voice Over users because
Apple employs its own accessibility frameworks for Mac OS X. Therefore, the
folks at Mozilla must create by hand all the accessibility functionality
that Linux and Windows users have by default.

I know that the developers would welcome assistance in this, but I am not
confident enough in programming yet to offer them this help.

I know that there are other, better qualified people on this list who could
give you a better break down of the current situation, so if my info is
incorrect or in any way in accurate, please feel free to set me straight.
