RE: Backing up the Mac

2017-07-26 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi ET,

I've looked into this here in NZ,
The difference is in nz approximately $50 and the format is Fat32 on the
windows ones and mac osx extended Journaled on the mac ones,

Why because they can to make people think you need one over the other and the
apple formatted ones are more costly,

For people that don't know how to format a drive.

I have 5 of the WD My Passport drives and none are for the Mac. Two are
formatted for Windows, the rest for the Mac and each are partitioned. They all
have been working fine. So I am curious what the difference is with the Mac
version.

I have 5 of the WD My Passport drives and none are for the Mac. Two
are formatted for Windows, the rest for the Mac and each are
partitioned. They all have been working fine. So I am curious what the
difference is with the Mac version.

Re: Backing up the Mac

2017-07-24 Thread John Panarese
Usually, and I mean, usually, Time Machine automatically formats the drive
to MacOS Extended Journal. At least, this has happened for me. If not, you will
need to go into Disk Utility, select the actual disk from the table and choose,
Erase, from the toolbar. Change the format popup to MacOS Extended Journal and
choose to erase the disk. This will format it to the proper format, and you
should then be able to choose the disk for Time Machine.
