RE: Installing sierra on 2 computers, and a question on time machine

2016-09-23 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Ramy,

When the installer goes to start installing,

Hit cancel and stop the installation.

Then under your applications folder find the osX sierra installer file and
copy it on to a usb device to transfer it to your other machine then do the
copy and paste in to that machines applications folder and it will allow you to
install on both,

If you don't grab the installer before the installation starts the file gets
removed once installation has finished.

Good luck.

Subject: Installing sierra on 2 computers, and a question on time machine

Hello all:
now, I have my 2 macs, the mini and my MacBook pro. I need to install sierra
on both, but don't want to download it twice.
so, after downloading from the mac appstore, will I find the installer in the
downloads folder? can I upgrade to sierra before taking the installer from
downloads? or I must take it 1st if I will find it?

my 2nd question is concerning time machine:
can I use a hard that will be prepared to time machine on mac mini, can I use
this hard to backup with MacBook pro also? or it must be 1 hd for each machine?
of cores each machine will have it's own apps, and I don't want the apps to be
on both? the backup will different from 1 to another because, my macmini is for
my studio it has pro tools etc.
and I don't want these apps to be on my MacBook pro that has the VMware that I
don't need in my studio.
Thanks

Thanks

That depends, Louis.

All VO+F3 does is speak what is under the Voiceover cursor. If you're not
already focused on the progress, then that won't work. Good suggestion, but

Re: Installing sierra on 2 computers, and a question on time machine

2016-09-23 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

When the Sierra Installer downloads, it actually downloads to the Applications
folder, not the Downloads folder. Also, after it downloads, it will
automatically open the installer ready for you to start. If you start the
process, it will automatically delete the installer after the installation is
complete. to avoid this from happening, press cmd-q to Quit the Installer,
then go into your Applications folder and select the Sierra installer. Copy
this installer to another location, USB stick, Desktop, external HD etc. Once
you have the second copy, then you can go back into the Applications folder and
open the Sierra Installer. Follow the prompts and perform the installation.
If you've copied the Sierra Installer to another location, you can then put it
into the Applications folder on your second Mac and perform the installation
once again.

Hope that makes sense.

Later...

Re: Installing sierra on 2 computers, and a question on time machine

2016-09-23 Thread lscrivani
As far as the backup, it depends on the size of the backup drive. If it
is large enough to equal the size of the drives on both units, then yes as
long as you create a partition on the drive first. But you are better off
having a separate back up unit for each.

Subject: Installing sierra on 2 computers, and a question on time machine

Hello all:
now, I have my 2 macs, the mini and my MacBook pro. I need to install
sierra on both, but don't want to download it twice.
so, after downloading from the mac appstore, will I find the installer
in the downloads folder? can I upgrade to sierra before taking the
installer from downloads? or I must take it 1st if I will find it?

my 2nd question is concerning time machine:
can I use a hard that will be prepared to time machine on mac mini,
can I use this hard to backup with MacBook pro also? or it must be 1
hd for each machine? of cores each machine will have it's own apps,
and I don't want the apps to be on both? the backup will different
from 1 to another
because, my macmini is for my studio it has pro tools etc.
and I don't want these apps to be on my MacBook pro that has the
VMware that I don't need in my studio.
Thanks

Thanks
