I had to do the same thing when I tried to put books on to a flash drive. I
never understood that either.

Re: NLS Bard Question

2016-05-16 Thread Gabe Griffith
Hi,

I have to empty the trash on my Victor Stream SD card also. I make sure to do
it when I am done transfering books before I eject the card. The reason that
emptying the trash works and is necessary is that when you copy material from
the Mac to the drive be it an SD card or thumb drive is that the Mac puts what
I call a ghost file on that external drive. It's hidden on the Mac but if you
look on a windows computer you will see another file with the exact same file
name and extension but it will have a ._ before the file name. It is a small
file but if you don't empty the trash with the drive connected it will
eventually fill up your drive.

I hope that explanation makes sense.

Gabe

It's possible, but most likely no. It sounds more like the MBR got corrupted.
As long as there isn't anything on the drive that you need, I'd personally just
erase/format it through Disk Utility, and see if that helps.

Hi,

I don’t know if this will help you, but I was getting the same message when
trying to put books on an NLS cartridge, which was empty. A friend told me to
empty the trash on my Mac and try again. It solved the problem. So now before
I attempt to download any books I just empty the trash on my Mac. I still
can’t figure out why that works but it does.
