Joshua, Okay, if I set up a new filter directly on Gmail and it automatically sets up a corresponding mailbox on Apple Mail, will those messages still go into the All Mail mailbox? Just wondering. The reason I suggest that is some of the info is already filled in such as the too and other fields you might want. Yes, they will, but they will not appear in your in box, as long as you check the skip in box check box when you create your filter. It is important to remember that your all mail folder is not the same as your in box. GMail works quite a bit differently than the way most people are used to mail services working. Also, it is important to mention that everything I am saying is only relevant if you are using imap, which is the only way I access all of my mail accounts, unless I am logging into them directly via a web mail interface, or SAMNet, in the case of my System Access account. If you're setting up messages for GMail addresses, make your filters in GMail, and the separate mailboxes will be created by default. hi, notetakers have their place. you just have to remember what you want to do. for example, if i want to load a bible on a notetaker to take to church or sunday school, and pull up the verses, reading them in braille i can do that. that would be a cumbersome process on a macbook air or any other computer based model. I usually hit the control key but most of the time I'm interacting with the table and only the subject column and most of the time I still am there so I just down arrow and hear the subject of the message. Follow the prompts. what I usually do is this. name of rule: what ever you want. contains subject, or for this list to which is already filled. move to what ever folder you want. create the folder before you create the rule though. hit ok and if asked apply the rule. Perhaps someone already said this. To turn off a bunch of the blank blank blank when reading mail: 1. Hit Vo-M and go to the View menu. 2. Arrow down to the Columns submenu. 3. Hit the right arrow and you will see checkboxes for all the things it can show. Uncheck any that don't seem relevant. That will at least cut down on the blanks. You'll get there, take your time, you don't ahve to everything in one day, make the switch a little at a time, and eventually it will become second nature. I do the normal mail boxes on the imap server but you can create them on your mac as well. try vo shift down arrow. this will put you into interact with text mode. from there, all the headers will be available. Mary, I totally agree with you. I will never give up my Apex; when I want braille, I gotta have braille. When I am calling the roster of all ACB affiliates at convention and being given delegate names on the fly, I gotta be fast and furious. Also, when delegates change, I have to be quick about making the change or I'd hold up the entire convention. It's about what is going to work the most effectively for the situation I'm confronting. Ok Marlaina. Turn on long headers with command shift h. Press enter on the message you want to read while in the messages table. Vo left to get to the headers. Interact. Vo down and you should move from one header field to another, with the to: field appearing after the subject line as memory serves. I am actually not vo arrowing, because I have quicknav on. You shouldn't have to press command 1 each time go back to the in box, ah, I wonder if you have the mail boxes showing? Try going to the in box, then press command shift m, and see if it says hide mail boxes. Now when you press command w, it should take you back to the in box. There's no way that I know of to prevent voiceover from telling you the rows are being added, but there's a simple work around. Actually what I do is just cmd w and close everything until I know I got mail. then I hit cmd 1 to go to my inbox. Take care. Well, when I did that, I got the message properties; I mean when I interacted with the headers then vo right to the email address then did vo shift space, rather than the action menu I wanted, here's what I got. Now this isn't all bad, since I have wondered how to see this info and now I know, but I still want to solve this silly problem then get help on my other apple mail stuff. Oh sure, there's more to think about than just money, but a main stream computer will do more than a specialty note taker, and it costs less. Oops. Right. I stand corrected. I've been using a mac for almost two years. Sorry about that. Ok, to find an attachment, go to the message headers by scrolling to the left past the messages table. Now, you will see a popup button. A popup button is the equivalent to a combo box in windows. This popup button gives the option to save the attachment in your downloads folder. Hth, Chantel. Hurrah I got finding the attachment to work! One of you good folks (or maybe more than one) told me to turn on the long headers and that did the trick. I still cannot navigate to a particular name in a message that I want to add to my addressbook, actually I can navigate there but nothing any of you have suggested is working for me. I added Tim's suggestion to move the mouse cursor but still nothing. I'm not giving up. No, I want it to shut up as it is gettig mail so it does not say one row added or 30 rows added; I have a sound to ding when the mail is done, so I see no purpose for it. This is not a specific addition to Mail, but applies to all tables within Mac OS X. Currently, you cannot turn this off, and I personally find it a useful feature. You might consider writing to Apple's accessibility team accessibil...@apple.com to suggest this. 2. Is there a key sequence I can use to add let's say one address from an email to my addressbook? How do I do that using vo? If you go to the TO: field within the Message headers text after interacting with it, make sure the mouse is focused on the address as well in the To: field. You can do this with VO-Command-F5. Sometimes it does not track correctly, though you can verify this by hitting VO-F5. Now, hold down control then physically click the mouse. The way you describe it, it sounds like you are using the preview pane to review messages. In that case, simply hit VO-J to jump back to the inbox. If you are not using the preview pane, hitting COmmand-W closes the window with the e-mail you're reading. IF you view e-mails by thread, you will have to close all windows with Command-Option-W, then hit Command-1 to open up the inbox. 4. Can I make that stop? Currently, you cannot do this. I don't see why you would want to, as it comes in handy in other situations than mail such as when working with multiple selections. When you attach a file or view attachments, it will sometimes put it at the bottom. It is displayed as an image to VoiceOVer, or rather...that is the sound VoiceOVer uses to indicate there is an attachment. If you receive an attachment from a Mac user, you will probably notice that it can be placed anywhere that their cursor was located when they attached the file. If it is a Windows user, it will probably be placed at the bottom however, to save yourself a headache, you can go to the message contents where there will normally be a disclosure triangle you can expand to view the attachment, and next to that you can select options for the attachments, and which ones to apply the action to. If you don't manage to find this, you can go to the file menu and hit Save attachments. 6. I know what the attachment is and decide to save it. My VoiceOVer reads the attachment just fine including the name if I actually move to the text field. If you have multiple attachments you wish to save, you cannot change their names of course and no text field will appear. If you VO-Shift-M on the attachment within the mail (if you manage to find it) you can get options such as Open attachment, Open with, Quick Look etc. If you find the popup I was talking about earlier right next to the Message headers element, you can choose to save all or one at a time by hitting enter on their names.
