Re: The New AirPort Extreme.

2013-07-12 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hope I didn't cause any offence, Kawal. Certainly none was intended. :) It just
sounded a little funny to be downgrading when most people seem to want to
upgrade. I'm sure you had good reasons though. You're clearly not a sheep. :)

I do subscribe to iTunes Match. This is great for my music. Unfortunately
iTunes Match doesn't cover all my movies, TV shows and, most important of all,
my audiobooks. These are also all a bit too big for Dropbox so I have to do old
school 20th Century back ups on the ground. :)

All the same, I think I might end up just getting the Airport Extreme and using
external HDs for the back ups which I can store off site.

I'll always use Dropbox though as it's so much more than just a cloud back up
service. In fact, the cloud back up is just a cool side effect. The best part
is that it keeps all my devices in sync. Create or edit a file on one device
and the others synchronise within seconds. Plus your back ups are in the cloud.
Not like Time Capsule back ups which are on site, so if anything bad happens to
your computer there's a good chance the same will happen to your Time Capsule.
IN short, I agree with Kawal that Dropbox is so much cooler than Time Capsule.

Thanks for all the tips, Kawal! You're motivating me to pay that extra to get
an Apple Airport.

Cheers,
Nic

You're so right, I do want to. ;)
In fact, I wish Apple made other household appliances. If they did, I'd so get
an Apple washing machine, dryer, dish washer, AC/heating unit, oven, microwave,
etcetera. Of course they would all work with VoiceOver and I could control them
all from the remote app on my iPhone. Sigh. What a dream.
I don't use the audible app that much to be honest. Plus I like to keep offline
back ups in case audible has copyright issues and blocks me from accessing some
of my purchased books. I've seen this happen before. I'm so with you though
about Apple extending iTunes Match to cover all iTunes content. That will be a
very happy day for me and perhaps the day I give up on 20th Century back ups. :)

Thanks, Kawal, I'm thinking of getting one. It's so much more expensive than
other routers, and I already have another router, but I think it will be worth

pay the extra to get a Time Capsule but that might be a little indulgent at

What kind of internet are you using if you don't mind me asking?

Hello Nick.

I'm glad you think that's funny about me not wishing to have an Time Capsule
anymore.

I did sell the Time Capsule.

You can solve your iTunes problem, Just put all your music in the Cloud as I
have done if you can.

The Bridge is called Draytech 120 V2.

Once you get it and you want to upgrade the firm ware, (although it's not
required) you can visit the following Website:

http:192.168.2.1

Just log in and all you type in the password field is admin lower case and
nothing in the name field.

If you have Amazon app on your I phone type that router name and that's the
only one there as it's unbranded.

Just yell if you want more help.

Re: The New AirPort Extreme.

2013-07-11 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Because I can get rid of my stuff on my machine and when I put it back
together, everything is there were I left it. My Time Capsule was never wright
as the Backups would stop so I got rid of it and hence Drop Box and the AirPort
Extreme.

Why pay for a subscription of more space on drop box when you can back it up

lol, Kawal, you're so funny. You switched from a Time Capsule to an Airport

 Time Capsule then? ;)
I know what you mean though. Nearly everything of mine is backed up on
Dropbox too, so it kinda makes Time Machine backups useless. I don't keep my
iTunes library on Dropbox though so I'd like that backed up somewhere. I
just wish Time Capsule would support backup duplicates.
What was the ADSL bridge modem you got if you don't mind me asking? I'll be
looking for one over the next week or so. I take it yours was pretty easy to
 set up with Airport Extreme?

Re: The New AirPort Extreme.

2013-07-11 Thread kliphton
To each there own. I am one of those who only backs up manually. so that
probably means once every 2 months. I also have 2 8TB network attached storage
devices,
so I also back up the files and apps that are most important to me, along with
googol drive, drop box, sky drive, as well as iCloud. So I know what you mean.
Maybe I am just a storage freek since total including my time capsule, I have
a total of 15TB of storage. and yes it all gets used one way or another.
Mostly to back up my movies, music, and family pictures.
