Thanks Tim,
Next time I have an incoming call I’ll try that. Can’t see myself using the Mac
for phone calls very often.
Take care,

Re: Answering calls on the Mac

2019-03-01 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

When the call is coming in, there should be a dialog on the screen. I believe
that VO is automatically focused on the "Answer" button, so pressing return
should answer the call. If that doesn't work, VO-right to the Answer button
and VO-space on it.

Where do I go to make the cellular phone call from my mac? Do I make the call

Hi all. I will answer all the questions below to the best of my knowledge.

 1. Making and answering calls should work on any Mac regardless of year they
were made. I have a mid 2010 white MacBook and while I was running the beta
of Yosemite, I could make and answer phone calls, and this is the case with
 the general public release.

 2. For the last several weeks that I had my 4S, the feature worked just fine.

 3. The fact that your iPhone and Mac don't see each other when making a call
is true, and it's a bug. Even in the beta this was present. My work around
for this was to turn off Wifi on my Mac and iPhone, leave it off for 10-30
seconds, and turn it back on for both devices. When I did this, I was able to
make and answer calls just fine. Like I said, this is a bug, and should be
reported to Apple right away. I hope all this helps.

Re: answering calls on the mac?

2014-10-20 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Sorry if this has already been mentioned as I wasn't closely following this
thread initially. I recall hearing some people mention that they would like a
keypad or something similar in order to place calls to people that aren't in
their Contacts. I've found that when in FaceTime, just entering a phone number
in the search field will allow this. So, I enter 800-555-1212 for example,
Interact with the Search results and see the phone number with options of
FaceTime Video or FaceTime audio. I Interact again then VO-space on the
FaceTime Audio option and a menu appears. the confusing part for some here may
be that the Call Using iPhone is dimmed. This is because it is actually just
a heading within the menu choices. If you arrow down further you'll see the
phone number again, just press return and the call will be placed.

Later...

Just FYI, you can hit space on a row in that table, without interacting with
the row, and that seems to bring up the call menu. I put up a podcast about
this on AppleVis if anyone wants to hear how it works.

number in the search field will allow this. So, I enter 800-555-1212 for
example, Interact with the Search results and see the phone number with
options of FaceTime Video or FaceTime audio. I Interact again then VO-space
on the FaceTime Audio option and a menu appears. the confusing part for some
here may be that the Call Using iPhone is dimmed. This is because it is
actually just a heading within the menu choices. If you arrow down further
you'll see the phone number again, just press return and the call will be
 placed.

Hi all. I will answer all the questions below to the best of my knowledge.

 1. Making and answering calls should work on any Mac regardless of year
they were made. I have a mid 2010 white MacBook and while I was running
the beta of Yosemite, I could make and answer phone calls, and this is the
case with the general public release.

 2. For the last several weeks that I had my 4S, the feature worked just
 fine.

 3. The fact that your iPhone and Mac don't see each other when making a
call is true, and it's a bug. Even in the beta this was present. My work
around for this was to turn off Wifi on my Mac and iPhone, leave it off
for 10-30 seconds, and turn it back on for both devices. When I did this,
I was able to make and answer calls just fine. Like I said, this is a bug,
and should be reported to Apple right away. I hope all this helps.

2014-10-18 Thread Nicholas Parsons
I haven't quite read every post in this thread, but to contribute my two cents
to help our understanding:
I am running iOS 8.0.2 on an iPHone 6 and Yosemite on a mid 2011 MacBook Air
and I am able to answer and make cellular calls on my MacBook. This is a relief
as I only read last night that my 2011 MacBook Air does not support handoff or
instant hotspot even though it has bluetooth low energy. At least it seems I
will be able to use the phone and SMS relay.

Re: answering calls on the mac?

2014-10-18 Thread matthew Dyer
Hi,

Just tested this by calling my cell from my house phone and after doing some
playing around it works just fine here. I think this great for someone who
charges there phone in another room and does not want to get up to go get there
phone.

Matthew

P.S, i am running an iMac 27 inch from I think 2012 or 13. it was the one
before the new redina display that just came out.

I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf.
I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper
 thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
 And now, every day:
 This I call to mind,
 and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord

 his mercies never come to an end;
 they are new every morning;

Yes. This requires iOS 8.1 due out Monday. Can't say anymore at the moment as
the specifics is subject to the NDA we developers all have to sign when paying
the $99/year.

Re: answering calls on the mac?

2014-10-17 Thread Joseph
Hello,
I have the latest iOS update as well as Yosemite on my Mac and I cant get it to
work either. It keeps telling me that the phone and the Mac have to be on the
same Wi-Fi network and they are.
Every time I try a call, it just says to try again and it reminds me that both
the phone and computer need to be on the same network even though they are. How
do I know, I put them there.

My iMac is running OS 10.9.5 and I do not see the change. I guess this is a

Re: answering calls on the mac?

2014-10-17 Thread Brett C.
If you haven't already done this, go to the settings on your phone, go to the
FaceTime settings and check the box authorizing use of the iPhone for calls.
You'll want to confirm the same checkbox in the FaceTime app on your Mac by
opening FaceTime and accessing the option in preferences.

2014-10-17 Thread Joseph
Hello,
On my iPhone FaceTime is on, iPhone Cel calls are on. On my iMac it is also
checked in FaceTime Prefs. However, here's where the problem may be, I think.
I am using a 27 inch iMac mid 2010 and an iPhone 4S. I think that the 4S is the
problem.
Am i unfortunately right about that?
Oh well, if so, I'll be purchasing a new iPhone in a few weeks and I just might
purchase a new OS X machine, who knows.

I have not yet had a chance to confirm whether this will work with the iPhone
4S and I'm not going to contribute to speculation. However, I can tell you
that the information that it won't work with a phone prior to the 5S is
incorrect. It works with my iPhone 5.

Re: answering calls on the mac?

2014-10-17 Thread Cheryl Homiak
I wouldn't think that would be too old; it's working fine for me on my late
2012 iMac and my 11inch macbook air.

Cheryl

I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf.
I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper
thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
And now, every day:
This I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord
never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

Re: answering calls on the mac?

2014-10-17 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi all. I will answer all the questions below to the best of my knowledge.

1. Making and answering calls should work on any Mac regardless of year they
were made. I have a mid 2010 white MacBook and while I was running the beta of
Yosemite, I could make and answer phone calls, and this is the case with the
general public release.

2. For the last several weeks that I had my 4S, the feature worked just fine.

3. The fact that your iPhone and Mac don't see each other when making a call is
true, and it's a bug. Even in the beta this was present. My work around for
this was to turn off Wifi on my Mac and iPhone, leave it off for 10-30 seconds,
and turn it back on for both devices. When I did this, I was able to make and
answer calls just fine. Like I said, this is a bug, and should be reported to
Apple right away. I hope all this helps.

Hi May. What iPhone are you running and are you running iOS8? In order to make
and receive calls, you have to have both OS X Yosemite and iOS 8. If you don't

Re: answering calls on the mac?

2014-10-17 Thread Joseph
Hello,
I'll give this a try.
So is it ok to use a 4S?

On Oct 17, 2014, at 8:31 PM, Shawn Krasniuk bbssh...@icloud.com wrote:

2014-10-17 Thread May
This is what I get.

face time on
my apple ID
I can be reached by face time at...and it shows my number and my email. I have
those both picked.
add another email
then caller ID heading and under that it shows my info, number and email.
That's it.

Oh oops, nope, last option is blocked.

When I did this, I was able
to make and answer calls just fine. Like I said, this is a bug, and should
be reported to Apple right away. I hope all this helps.

Re: answering calls on the mac?

2014-10-17 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi May. I don't know what to tell you then. In my FaceTime settings, I have the
following:
FaceTime is on
iPhone Cellular Calls is on
I can be reached for calls at, which has my Apple ID and my phone number, I
only have my phone number selected
Add another email
Caller ID which has my number
Blocked.
The only suggestion I have is to reset the phone, or at least power it on and
off.
