Re: could Siri's iPhone voices finally be coming to the Mac?

2016-03-19 Thread Seyoon Choi
My only question is, being a Windows and Mac user I know for the fact that
those Siri voices are named as “Nicky” and “Aaron” so I am wondering if Apple
is planning to officially give away the names for these voices or not. I know
Samantha was officially called out on iOS 9 when you are selecting voice but by
then everyone knew who she was, haha.

no, I was referring o the dictation commands that are now available under
accessibility. These types of functions have been available for the Macintosh
for twenty years.

You can add additional commands by using the automator. So for example if you
had the automator run my AppleScript to hide the preview pane, then you could
click the dictation shortcut and say hide preview pane and voila it would be
gone!

Ok, are you referring to intellitalk, that I think was a word processor

The spoken interface actually dated back to the v7 days. When UUNET got
Macintosh computers for the sales staff in 94-95 there was already the ability

There was also a “Spoken Interface Preview”, which was the precursor to
VoiceOver, introduced as a separate download for Mac OS X 10.3.

Leopard was when things really started to shape up, and when Alex was

For completeness, it's worth noting that Apple redesigned their accessibility
API for version 10.10.

Re: could Siri's iPhone voices finally be coming to the Mac?

2016-03-13 Thread Jonathan Cohn
My memory is that 10.3 had UI Scripting the Macintosh equivalent of Microsoft’s
UIA to query applications and provide links for accessibility tools. The next
version after that was the one that had VoiceOver, but it did not have nearly
as much functionality as our current VoiceOver.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

I asked Siri where Fuji is located in California. She informed me that there is
a restaurant by the name of Fuji Suchi in Turlock, California. If you ask me,
it sounds like the people at Apple were thinking with their stomachs lol.

Re: could Siri's iPhone voices finally be coming to the Mac?

2016-03-12 Thread Carter Temm
I must say, apple has a strange way of naming the os X operating system, but so
does google. As for Aaron and Nikki on the mac, it would not be impossible
considering they are already available for iOS, and NVDA.
I'm actually surprised no one has figured out how to do this yet. All would be
needed is the folder for the speech voice on iOS, which could easily be
obtained using a jailbreak. Considering iOS is 64 bit, the process would most
likely be pretty straightforward assuming you know what you're doing

Re: could Siri's iPhone voices finally be coming to the Mac?

2016-03-12 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
I asked Siri where Fuji is located in California. She informed me that there is
a restaurant by the name of Fuji Suchi in Turlock, California. If you ask me,
it sounds like the people at Apple were thinking with their stomachs lol.

I thought the rumour was that apple were working towards having one operating
system for all devices, so along the lines of what you have on your iPhone or
iPad will also be the same os on your mac book eventually.

Can't see what the problems would be and everything would be constant

Well, got news for yuh, Aaron is already on the iPHone. Under the default
dialect, you’d click on what Apple calls the “male Siri” voice. Actually,
that’s the newer Siri voice we got back with IOS8 but many of us thought it was
strictly server side until a jail breaker discovered that in fact the voice was
on the phone itself. It wasn’t until we got in to IOS9 that the Siri voices
(the newer ones I mean) were made available for Voice Over. So, Looks like
both you and I might have to spring for new Macs: that is, unless I really

2016-03-11 Thread Devin Prater
Aaron, yes. But Zoey isn't the name of the female voice. The female voice is
Nikki.

2016-03-11 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Oh yeah. So will I. I'll probably be one of the first ones to spring for the
public beta once it's released. And if our Macs can handle Fuji, I hope we'll
get to use Siri.

RE: could Siri's iPhone voices finally be coming to the Mac?

2016-03-11 Thread BBS
I heard something similar to that extent from a friend. I heard that Nuance was
developing new voices for the Mac. One was called Zoey and the other was called
Aaron. That would be cool if the rumors were true. I just hope that older Macs
will be able to handle Fuji. A friend of mine said that me upgrading to El
Capitan on this thing was pushing it and that I should've stayed on Yosemite.
So I wonder if this thing will be able to handle Fuji? If not, I guess I'll
have to save up for a new Mac.

While this article doesn’t say anything about the voices for Siri that we use
on the iPHone such as Aaron and some of the other new voices we like there, I
kind of wonder if at long last we might be seeing these new voices come to the
Mac in the fall.
