I thought there was talk of a fridge that would roll up to you and
offer you a beer or something a bit ago.

RE: Smart refrigerators

2018-08-23 Thread Simon Fogarty
What's this paid thing you speak of Janina?

I don't want to have to pay my slave / servants.

If I have to pay them I may as well find myself a girl friend and get all the
benefits

Personally that's just over the top.

Actually Janina,

The first one was a trick,

I'm gluten free so I can't drink beer.

 But cyder is an option,
But no it's still not good enough,

I'll have to find myself a small servant person to do everything I don't want
to do.

2018-08-20 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Personally, I would look for two things ...

1.) An accessible app

2.) A published accessibility policy from the manufacturer on their
web site. Because, if the company isn't committed to make their products
accessible, the app you can use today will likely become the app you
can't use on some upgrade in the future.

RE: Smart refrigerators

2018-08-19 Thread Karen Lewellen

I see...that is interesting.
Granted mine does not produce ice or water via the door.
Still all the other settings, containers for storage, over all settings,
etc., are all manual and perfectly tactile.
Interesting to discover some companies believe people are not capable of
managing such things laughs.

My fridge shoping was not fun. All fridges, smart or not, are nothing but touch
pannels. Sucks when you want to change ice/water settings.

Re: Smart refrigerators

2018-08-19 Thread David Chittenden
This is early days of smart fridges. They are working on developing the ability
for the fridge to detect and report when products are no longer in the fridge.
For example, if one adds eggs to the always have category, when the egg carton
is taken out and not replaced, eggs are added automatically to the shopping
list. And, the fridge that has an egg tray, it will keep track of how many eggs
are still in the fridge.

Initially, this scanning is expected to be in the door shelves because this is
a smaller area to monitor.

Kind regards,

But i have to test the app with it first.

Re: Smart refrigerators

2018-08-19 Thread Jonathan Cohn
A mini door where you can grab a soda or beer without opening the main door is
my understanding of the grab and go. I believe the insulation is not as good
when you have one of these doors. But then my Fridge doesn't even have a water
dispenser. I am so third world. What we really need is a fridge that comes with
an R2D2 like unit and brings us cold drinks every 60 minutes no matter where in
the house we are.

Happy Sunday Everybody!
So please excuse the sarcasm.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Does it open the beer bottle before it hands it to you?

Will it know when to thor out my frozen chicken before I go to cook it?

RE: Smart refrigerators

2018-08-18 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hang on,

 A smart refrigerator?

 Really?

Does it open the beer bottle before it hands it to you?

Will it know when to thor out my frozen chicken before I go to cook it?

And the really important question, will it know if I put a bottle of red wine
in the fridge that it should only be kept at room temp?

If it can't do those things then its not smart enough for me.

Hi, Sarai:

I have no personal experience. However, I have been on LG's Accessibility
Acvisory Committee for quite a few years, and I can report they demonstrated
their smart refridgerator to one of our meetings. I haven, however, not
personally tried to use the app.

Re: Smart refrigerators

2018-08-17 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,

I can’t say I have seen a smart refrigerator in action nor have I seen any
reviews from any blindness organizations. Generally though unlike stoves, I
believe most refrigerators are plugged in at the showrooms of appliance
companies so you should have a good chance of trying it out.

I also recently read a review of remote control thermometers in tidbits.com
 which sounded quiet intriguing

Best Wishes,

Jonathan .

Re: Smart refrigerators

2018-08-17 Thread Phil Halton
Could you back up that “no“ with a little more substance? I’m kind of
interested in this to end a one-word answer is not believable. For example what
is your experience with them, why do you say no and so forth. Thanks, it would
be a lot more helpful if you gave us a little more than just two letters strung
together.
