Re: Strange Mac Clean-up question, moving documents folder from iCloud to my Mac
Do you know how to set it for offline? There’s no way I want to pay to store all this in iCloud. I have stuff here that goes back 25 years. I’d like to keep it, but I don’t want to pay to store it. Re: Strange Mac Clean-up question, moving documents folder from iCloud to my Mac
I’m guessing here based on how iCloud Drive works. You can try Command delete and see if that deletes the folder. It may treat it as a default folder though since iCloud is somewhat integrated into the Mac. Otherwise, you should probably be able to delete everything in the folder. However, you might find it more beneficial to keep everything in iCloud. This way you always have access to the data, and it stores on your Mac anyway unless you set it for offline storage. As for renaming the folder, If hitting enter doesn’t work, then you will have to create a new folder with a different name and paste the contents of that folder into the new one. > On Feb 13, 2023, at 13:46, 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries > wrote: > > Hi all, > > When I got my current Mac back in 2020, as some of you may recall, I had > problems migrating files from my old Mac. Strange Mac Clean-up question, moving documents folder from iCloud to my Mac
Hi all, When I got my current Mac back in 2020, as some of you may recall, I had problems migrating files from my old Mac. So I decided to transfer my documents by copying the folder to iCloud, and hoped that I could then download it onto the new Mac. The download never happened. I’m trying to do some cleanup, and one thing I would like to do is to get that folder out of iCloud and have it live locally on my Mac. I have a bunch of old stuff in there that I want to keep, but that I don’t want to use up iCloud storage to store. Just to be clear, I have a documents folder in iCloud, but I do not have one in my user folder. I tried creating one, and was told I couldn’t because that name was in use. So I copied it from iCloud into my users folder. That worked, but the folder is called documents - Donna’s MacBook Air, and I’d like it to be named Documents, and for that to be the folder that opens when I press CMD-Option-O. I’d also like to delete it from iCloud Drive. Can anyone tell me how to accomplish this? TIA,, Donna -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list.
