Great jobs. Adding locales via Extras
[resending as mail bounced, lists should be fixed now btw] [Adding -developers] On Tue, December 30, 2008 17:05, Jiri Benc wrote: On Thu, 16 Oct 2008 15:46:21 +0200 (CEST), Niels Breet wrote: It seems that you are the owner of a repository with some packages not available in Extras. Is there a possibility for you to move all useful packages to Extras and shut your own one down? Done for chinook and diablo, component main. All packages moved, repositories deleted. Thanks for the effort! If you need any help with packages that need to brought over to Extras, please let me know. We will gladly help you with problematic packages. I still have a separate component czech. It contains only one package, posix-locales-cz (http://upir.cz/maemo/dists/diablo/czech/source/posix-locales-cz_2.5.0-1o sso1.tar.gz). The package adds a Czech locale support. But it's quite hackish, as a locale cannot be just added - all of the installed locales have to be replaced to achieve that. Thus, although it is just recompiled Nokia posix-locales package, it has intentionally a different name and replaces the original locales in its post-install script. I know, that's ugly. The question is - is that suitable for Extras? As it is named differently than the original posix-locales package, it won't be considered as an update to posix-locales, so it shouldn't cause any problems for those who haven't installed posix-locales-cz. On the other hand, I don't know what will happen for those with posix-locales-cz installed if Nokia decides to update posix-locales. It may or may not work. It could probably be fixed by some deb dependencies magic but I'm not skillful enough in that and don't think it's worth the effort. I would like to hear from other community developers what they have done to solve this problem? Did you also have to hijack the package or is there a clean way in doing this? It seems that replacing the original locales with your locales in a post install script is a bit evil and ugly. One shouldn't have to do that. And what if I want to add another locale? I think this is really where things start to fall apart. Thanks for your opinions :-) I am not afraid to say: I don't know :) Jiri -- Jiri Benc http://upir.cz/maemo -- Niels Breet maemo.org webmaster ___ maemo-developers mailing list maemo-developers@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-developers

Re: Removing packages from Diablo extras-devel
Sorry, We discussed this on IRC a bit and the consensus was that packages in extras-devel are expected to break sometimes. Regular users shouldn't use extras-devel and leave it enabled. As nobody else has stepped forward to update the obviously broken package, I can remove it for you if you really want. I've meant to mail you back a few times, but somehow I forgot about it. xterm cant escape so my cursor is homeless (echo -e \033[H)
I just tried to do some basic cursor movement using ansi sequences, but they don't work in the standard xterm. I know vim and other things work but they may be using the panels or some other library. Re: Maemo 'kernel-diablo' packages now support kbuild and standard way of (auto)building kernel modules in extras repo
Could the kernel-diablo-headers be pushed, symlinked, or something to /usr/include/linux https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3434 (apt-get install on the kernel-diablo-headers works, but the /usr/include/linux version is 2.6.16 - I know it will be fixed in freemantle, but since you have the tree ready I thought maybe a pre-backport might be possible).
