What's particularly interesting about sardine's extras is that in contrast to all the other distros which are immutable releases, sardine is being constantly updated towards the next release, so uploading your packages to sardine extras gives you a very concrete way of checking how they are getting affected by the ongoing platform development. ___ maemo-developers mailing list maemo-developers@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-developers

Promoting a fresh discussion on the repo structure would be a good thing as well. Let's have this discussion, then. We can start collecting the objectives, issues, enhancement proposals... Then at least ferenc and I can meet face to face and come up with a proposal. Here is a first attempt to collect the information available: http://maemo.org/community/wiki/repositorystructureideas Quim -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] on behalf of ext Ferenc Szekely Sent: Mon 6/25/2007 2:50 PM To: maemo-developers@maemo.org Subject: Re: extras packages for sardine On 6/22/07, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Shouldn't this be simply a matter of adding a sardine distro in http://repository.maemo.org/extras/dists/ and the configuring the upload mechanism? People who have an extras account could easily upload stuff there. I just wonder if anybody is thinking about our current repo structure.. It is still based on ideas we had 2 yrs ago. Maybe some fresh thoughts would help to rationalize the current situation. 2007/6/20, Murray Cumming [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Is this possible yet? Assuming that the sardine repository is the future Maemo Chinook version, I will want to upload and test packages before Maemo Chinook is actually released. AFAIK that's not a correct assumption, since as http://sardine.garage.maemo.org/about.html states, Sardine is always the latest versions and thus will have more recent versions than the Chinook. Herring would be what you want, but apparently not available... -- Kalle Vahlman, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Powered by http://movial.fi Interesting stuff at http://syslog.movial.fi ___ maemo-developers mailing list maemo-developers@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-developers
RE: extras packages for sardine
Hi Murray, We will have a more solid answer to this question in few weeks, around GUADEC time. We are still working on some plans and feasibility analysis to see how can we help best developers having their applications ready when a new release comes. In the meantime let me say that we are planning to release an early alpha SDK for Chinook plus a proper beta. The alpha's core mission will be to stress the API changes so developers can see where and how their Bora applications break. It won't be ready for real porting/developing yet, hence the alpha tag. Proper porting and developing work should be feasible later on when we realease the beta SDK. Of course Sardine is currently a good channel to follow the Chinook development but it is also limited to a set of APIs (remarkably Hildon, GTK+ and the desktop related components). We are also thinking of bringing the current Sardine to a next step. Quim Is this possible yet? Assuming that the sardine repository is the future Maemo Chinook version, I will want to upload and test packages before Maemo Chinook is actually released.
