For example, see the program wv, http://freshmeat.net/projects/wv/. You could use programs like this (or StarOffice) to do the conversion and then post the resulting documents to the mailing list. It shouldn't be too hard to work up a way to automatically pull down the latest documents, convert them, and then post the conversions (or the links to the conversions) to the mailing list. However, all this would need to be done outside of Mailman. There are no facilities within the current version to execute arbitrary format conversion programs (such as wv), and I think this would represent a serious security risk if someone tried to add the feature. Supporting simple automated HTML conversion via lynx is potentially dangerous enough, I don't think anyone would want to go beyond that. -- Brad Knowles, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. -- Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), reply of the Pennsylvania Assembly to the Governor, November 11, 1755 SAGE member since 1995. [Mailman-Users] Setting up list for the first time
I have started setting up mailing lists provided by a VPS hosting service (using PLESK as a management tool). I have put this problem to them and have not received a particularly useful set of responses i.e after many support exchanges I still have the problem. When I configure Mailman, everything appears to be Ok and accepts changes I have made. One big problem, however, is that it doesn't work. I have been using macjordomo for some years now and I understand that the philosophy is different but I have headed down a number of dead ends (mainly to do with DNS) in trying to troubleshoot the problem. Here are the symptoms, having subscribed people using mass subscription 1 if I post a message to the list (from a members email client) ie [EMAIL PROTECTED], it appears to have been successful, I don't get any bad address replies. But no-one on the list receives the message. 2 There are no archives in the list info, It states that no postings have been received. 3 If someone subscribes using the listinfo page, they don't get a subscription acknowledgement and they don't appear in the list of subscribers under Membership list in Membership management at the admin pages. I am hoping this is an easily rectifiable problem. the helpdesk at the VPS hosting service have been getting me to try to resolve some DNS issues which i believe I have done and still get the same problems. I have deleted lists and started new ones - all with the same results. Hope someone can help. PS I tried to subscribe to List Owners from the Python page but the links didn't work. thanks Lindsay -- Mailman-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/

[Mailman-Users] Bug or unintentional feature? msg_header/footer becomes MIME part with content filtering
Greetings all; One of our customers discovered what appears to be a rather odd happening in our install of MM 2.1.4. When content filtering is turned on AND the message has had an attachment scrubbed, any msg_header and/or msg_footer's suddenly become their own MIME part. If there is no attachment, the header/footers are inserted as normal. If content filtering is turned off, header/footers are normal. When there are no header/footers, no additional MIME parts are inserted. This creates a rather screwy message for their eMail clients (headers/footers can appear as attachments), and is naturally undesirable. What's the solution, oh wise ones? (Asides from having no headers/footers) Is this fixed in 2.1.5, is it not a recognised bug? Am I missing something?
