[MlMt] Confused by Search Results

2016-04-27 Thread temjeito
Several times now I have searched for a term I know is in the body of a
message, only to have that message not appear in the search results.

Let’s say I have a message in my Inbox the body of which contains the
text “Just had a snickerdoodle and it was great!”

I do a “Search All Mailboxes” for “snickerdoodle” and I get a
few other messages, but not the one in my Inbox.

Same thing happens if the message is in a mailbox/folder other than the
Inbox.

Same thing happens if search just the mailbox the message is in for
“Common Headers or Body contains snickerdoodle.”

A big part of my work involves searching for particular emails in this
way. Am I missing something about how search works, or is this a bug?

Yes, I often use Flux at night. But for ordinary working, reasonable
color fidelity is very important to me. I only want to customize
MailMate to tone down the bright white background.

Thanks. Very helpful.

Yes. Select the Inbox and then “Mailbox ▸ Edit Mailbox...”.
Switch to the Rules pane and click on + to add a rule.

But if you have multiple devices and it's a simple rule (not requiring
advanced MailMate features) then you should setup a
[filter](https://support.google.com/mail/answer/6579?hl=en) in Gmail
instead. That way it happens server-side and works on all of your
devices.

[MlMt] Background color of MailMate windows

I work in a dark room and would like to change the background color of
MailMate's windows (viewer and message) from white to gray. Possible?

I'm not sure I know which shortcut behaviour you are referring to? The
`J`/`K`/`arrow keys`, `cmd-alt-arrowkeys`, they all work for me. They do
only interact with one panel at the time, so if you want to go to the
next (unread) message in another panel, you'll have to switch which
panel is focused (don't know if there are shortcuts for that).

I did however retain the keyboard shortcut `ctrl+alt+cmd+c` which
toggles the thread/tag and correspondence panels (they are children of
the same parent panel which is the actual one that gets toggled).

Re: [MlMt] Strange newline behavior sometimes near paragraph breaks?

Sometimes mailmate gets into a state wherein I have a paragraph, and a

another blank line.

And I am not sure what causes this, and I can't produce it on purpose,
but once it's started it consistently happens. If I just delete the
text and blank line, and then start a new paragraph, it happens again.
If I start a paragraph, then leave it and go back and delete the extra
blank line, things recover, apparently?

Seems to happen more often when there is much cutting and pasting and
such going on.

Let me know if you do figure out a way to reproduce it -- or if you have
additional hints.

It's my own variant of [sundown](https://github.com/freron/upskirt). I
do not recommend replacing it although it is possible. In any case, I've
changed how it works internally and such a customization would break in
a future update of MailMate.

(It might be possible to convince me to make it more easily replaced,
but it's not a straightforward change.)

FastMail is a third party provider of IMAP email accounts. They have a
very good, fast, and reliable IMAP implementation. Much better than what
is offered by Yahoo, Microsoft, Apple, Google, etc.

FastMail also provides a webmail email client (like Gmail). This could
be a replacement for MailMate if it has the features you need -- or it
can be a supplement, e.g., when you need access to your emails (using a
browser) without having access to one of your own devices.

There are several good Markdown tutorials out there, like

[this](https://guides.github.com/features/mastering-markdown/). And
[here](https://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/dingus) you can
experiment with Markdown.
