It is the pre-XML ASCII text format NeXT Property List format.

You can use the 'plutil' tool which is included in all modern MacOS
versions to convert that to XML or proper JSON or even Apple's binary
plist format. You can also pipe the XML output of plutil to the older
'pl' tool which will convert it back to the old ASCII text format.

I miss Eudora. That was a really great email client. MailMate is the
closest thing I've found to it, and I've looked a long time for a worthy
replacement.

You can open it with TextEdit and search for “rule”. Probably
safest to do this when MailMate is not running, or make a copy of
the file to play around with.

Yes, I worked that out. Looks like it's a form of JSON, so I can
probably write something to work with it. I can sort of understand
why it's not accessible in another way from within MailMate but I
think it could be useful to see filters / rules together.

I wasn’t thinking you would do any serious editing in TextEdit.
This will allow you to find the location of the rule, after which you
can go back to editing it inside MailMate as usual.

Impressive change list, Benny and so far pretty stable! Monospace fonts
for the viewer are back! Yay and thrice yay!

I've hit on some bugs related to filters, though to be fair these also
affect r5726. I assume you're aware of them but just in case your not:

* Date received is limited only to some preselections so "is within" or
"is not within" are not available. You can set these manually in the
Mailboxes.plist file and then edit them, but this isn't for the
faint-hearted!

* Message is / Message is not do not have the same set of choices.

There are probably more but I found these trying to recreate a filter I
mistakenly deleted.

This is intentional. The format of drafts isn't really standardized and it
would also be hard to do since email clients do not support the same feature
set. For example, a plain text email client cannot edit an HTML email. The
drafts generated by MailMate are pretty standard in formatting, but many email
clients put all kinds of non-standard headers and content into drafts which
MailMate cannot handle.

MailMate recognizes its own messages (based on the X-Mailer header), but in
order to not accidentally destroy content/formatting of other drafts then it
won't do this in other cases. You have to use “Message ▸ Edit as New Message”
instead which will ensure that the original draft is still around -- just in
case something goes wrong.

Does double-clicking on the message one-line header summary open it

You would expect that, wouldn't you? But it doesn't.

It works the way you describe for drafts I've written myself, but not
