Yes, I like this 2-pane or 3-pane idea.

I agree with Benny that it is a matter of perspective of a given user
whether this is view or preview of a message. This might have to do
with previous mail clients, as Benny suggested, but also with the
size of the monitor/window and the incoming volume of mail.

Huh? Really confused.
My View > Layout doesn't have hide or show anything. It only has Show
Tips and Standard.

You have to have the main window in front, with no message window in
front of it. The menu changes depending on which kind of window is in
front.

Is that what that command does? Is "Message View" what MailMate
calls "Preview"?

If it is, great (though I would rename it).

Oddly, those "hide" commands all stay "hide" even when they should
say "show". That's confusing.

John

Just like John, I have seen the message view pane suddenly reappear
for no apparent reason and so small that I did not see it for a
while. Hiding it through the menu command or with the mouse action
should produce the same effect. A preference setting through the
defaults command would presumably enforce the closed state at each
launch more reliably.

FWIW, mine toggle between Hide and Show after I select them.
